Reports: Terrorist attack kills 31, injures at least 100 at Moscow airport

[Updated at 11:18 a.m.] Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said in a television address that the Monday bombing at a Moscow airport was a terrorist attack.
He further said that he postponed his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, because of the bombing.
NATO condemned the attack and urged greater cooperation in the fight against terrorism. British Foreign Secretary William Hague said British officials are "in urgent contact with Russian authorities to establish the facts and to provide consular support to any British nationals who may have been affected."
[Updated at 10:51 a.m.] Footage from inside Moscow's Domodedovo Airport showed several police in a smoke-filled section of the airport.
There were several bodies lying on the floor, and video from another part of the airport showed paramedics rushing by with people on stretchers.
[Updated at 10:38 a.m.] A suicide bomber was responsible for the blast at Moscow's Domodedovo Aiport on Monday, Russian state TV reported.
The station said the handmade bomb was stuffed with metal objects to increase shrapnel from the explosion.
The state-run ITAR-TASS news agency said the explosion occurred at the international arrivals section of the airport. Another state media outlet earlier said it happened at a baggage claim area.
[Updated at 10:33 a.m.] As police went on high alert around the capital city, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called security chiefs to an emergency meeting at the Kremlin to discuss the situation.
[Updated at 10:06 a.m.] Flights destined for Moscow's Domodedovo Airport are being redirected to other airports in Moscow, either Sheremetyevo or Vnukovo, according to Russian TV.
Domodedovo is located about 14 miles southeast of Moscow, and the airport's website says it's the largest and busiest of the airports in the capital.

The Health Ministry provided the media outlet with the death toll, it said.

Think about it, if you can. Why would anyone want to invade Afghanistan? You don't make up excuses to invade places like that. They aren't worth it. Even if we could completely pacify the place, it would remain a drain on our economy forever. There are some mineral deposits, but not enough to justify the immense expense of our occupation. There is probably not enough oil to be worth drilling for. The population is largely illiterate. They can barely support themselves agriculturally, other than selling opium. And they are the strategic gateway to...nowhere.
since when Chechnya is considered an independent country? It's has been a part of Russia for the last 200 years. No? You are right, of course. Part of the problem is that the Internet allows for all sorts of anonymous people to propogate their thoughts to a huge number of others worldwide. Many of these people are kids trying to get attention; or, if not children then they are children mentally and emotionally. In the old days, most of the ignorant fools of the world could be kept mostly silent when it came to serious social discussions. Now all a person needs is a computer and an internet connection, and they can blast their hatred and intolerance all over the world.

Even though we complain and it's a inconvenience, this just shows how important the extra security measures we have at our airports are. I'd rather have to wait an extra few minutes and know that I'm safe than be one of the unfortunate victims in this latest bombing. My hearts and prayers are with the Russians.
The only reason we are safer here is because we don't share a border with islamic states. It has nothing to do with getting our privates groped at airports.
How does getting our junk looked at and touched by TSA workers protect our airports? What's stopping a terrorist from stuffing a bomb into one of their "cavities," or even implanted into them for that matter?
In addition there have been several incidents where people have gotten through the backscatter X-ray machines with a handgun and razor blades on their bodies. Yet they were allowed on right through. The TSA is nothing more than security theater.
This didn't happen past the security gate..it happened past the front doors, where there is no security...which goes to prove how useless most of the "security" measures are.

Alaskans, unlike the lower 48er's, would penetrate into Russia on dogsleds via the Siberian Peninsula with buckets of seal and whale fat to assist the wounded. The seals and whales are typically hunted by aircraft, such as a helicopter. The weapon of choice in a high-powered rifle with automatic option. Sarah herself could do all of the seal and whale capturing for the fat. In fact, she's been known to fly a copter and hunt at the same time, sometimes even alone inside the aircraft without any assistance from Todd. The fat would then be delivered by Sarah's fleet of snowmobiles to the waiting dogsled teams for transport into Russia. Once inside Russia, Sarah could instantly speak the native russian tongue. This is possible because of her close proximity to Russia. In fact, she's been eavesdropping on the Russians from her front porch for the last 4 years! A simple coffee can with the bottom cut out and a lamp shade duct taped to the top of the can is all it takes. Place to ear and point towards Russia. She don't need none of those high tech fancy shmancy military gadgets for spying. Sarah spends every morning from 6 am to 6:45 am listening to secret Russian information being passed along from western Russia to the peninsula. When it comes to Russia, who knows better than Sarah Palin and future First Cowboy Todd? Can Sarah handle foreign policy you ask? Does a pitbull with lipstick play soccer? Is Africa really a country? If your daughter is under 16, can her boyfriend sleep over? Enough said...

actually this proves that the new security measures are creating an even more dangerous potential target: the waiting lines for the security checks themselves.
why worry about having to smuggle a bomb through security when setting it off amidst the massive waiting lines for the checks can cause many more casualties than a single plane's worth.
