[Updated at 11:18 a.m.] Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said in a television address that the Monday bombing at a Moscow airport was a terrorist attack.

He further said that he postponed his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, because of the bombing.

NATO condemned the attack and urged greater cooperation in the fight against terrorism. British Foreign Secretary William Hague said British officials are "in urgent contact with Russian authorities to establish the facts and to provide consular support to any British nationals who may have been affected."

[Updated at 10:51 a.m.] Footage from inside Moscow's Domodedovo Airport showed several police in a smoke-filled section of the airport.

There were several bodies lying on the floor, and video from another part of the airport showed paramedics rushing by with people on stretchers.

[Updated at 10:38 a.m.] A suicide bomber was responsible for the blast at Moscow's Domodedovo Aiport on Monday, Russian state TV reported.

The station said the handmade bomb was stuffed with metal objects to increase shrapnel from the explosion.

The state-run ITAR-TASS news agency said the explosion occurred at the international arrivals section of the airport. Another state media outlet earlier said it happened at a baggage claim area.

[Updated at 10:33 a.m.] As police went on high alert around the capital city, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called security chiefs to an emergency meeting at the Kremlin to discuss the situation.

[Updated at 10:06 a.m.] Flights destined for Moscow's Domodedovo Airport are being redirected to other airports in Moscow, either Sheremetyevo or Vnukovo, according to Russian TV.

Domodedovo is located about 14 miles southeast of Moscow, and the airport's website says it's the largest and busiest of the airports in the capital.

[Updated at 10:04 a.m.] State TV is reporting that the blast at a Moscow airport erupted at the baggage claim area, killing 31 people.

The Health Ministry provided the media outlet with the death toll, it said.

CNN is seeking details on the Russian Investigative Committee report that terrorists are responsible for the explosion.

[Updated at 9:53 a.m.] The Russian government is confirming the death toll of 31 people and says 130 people were injured in the Moscow airport blast.

[Updated at 9:48 a.m.] Russian state TV reported 31 people are dead and more than 100 others were injured in an explosion at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow.

In a post on its website, the Russian Investigative Committee is blaming terrorists for the attack.

[Updated at 9:37 a.m.] The explosion at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport killed at least two people and injured 20 others, according to the official RIA Novosti news agency.

Russia's Investigative Committee confirmed the blast, saying 20 people were affected, although the extent of their injuries was unclear.

State TV said the explosion occurred at the baggage claim area of the airport.

The explosion occured at 4:40 p.m. in Moscow, RIA Novosti said.

Judging from previous posts, there are some very sad and mentally unstable folks running around out there.

This is a horrible tragedy with the deaths of innocent people, some of which I am sure are children. Hopefully the death toll will not continue to rise and adequate help will be available for the survivors.

Face the truth, and the history! It's always muslim people, not saying everyone is a terrorist of course, but i also don't understand why they keep torturing the world. Remember 911?? They went to great length to kill thousands of innocent people. Everyone should watch their backs around muslims.

How dare you call us narrow minded. Couple weeks ago during christmas celebration a christian coptic church was bombed in your own country. Guess who did it.... Muslims of course. You are the cancer of this world with you 2000 year backward religion.

I am amazed at why people jump to conclusions that whenever there is a death toll somewhere in the world it must have been done by muslims. Why don't you rednecks call the arizona shooter a terrorist? But no im sorry, he has "mental problems". Anyone who kills people has mental problems whether that be a terrorrist, muslim, christian, redneck, african or whoever! Its sad to hear what happened in Russia. Whoever did it im sure is not going to his/her "paradise".

I'm amazed that you don't realize that most of these attacks in Russia are performed by Chechen separatists, who are in fact Muslim. True this is not a religious attack like Al Qaeda, but a civil war based on territorial disagreements.

I can just see a pack of unsanitary, heavily bearded, Devil worshiping, buckfitches dancing and celebrating at their complete success in killing numerous children of God. May they be damned to eternal suffering!

I doubt a muslim suicide bomber is the culprit. Regardless of who detonated themselves, I am sure Russia will blame some rogue group originating from Georgia.

No, they will blame Chechnya suicide bombers. They've blown up airplanes, subways, theaters, etc. It would be no surprise for this to be them as well.

Most Muslims are peaceful. Its the extremists that kill. We have extremists in the US also. They are the ones that bomb government buildings, shot senators, DC snippers. ect.. Muslims should not be stereotyped with terrorism.
