Tough times for men and women in blue

As police in Florida prepared for the funeral of two Miami-Dade County police officers gunned down in the line of duty, shots rang out Monday in St. Petersburg, on the other side of the state. Two other officers fell dead and a federal marshal was wounded. Follow updates on CNN and affiliate WFTS-TV.

On any given day, such violence against police officers would be disturbing. But the fatalities capped a particularly violent 24 hours in the United States for the men and women in blue. Eleven police officers were shot.

“It is a very disturbing trend for all of us,” said Hal Johnson, general counsel for the Florida Police Benevolent Association. “Florida has never seen a streak like this. I don’t think anybody has.”

It is natural to search for answers, Johnson said, even if there aren’t any. The shootings do not appear to be related, and the motives may never be known. Declaring it to be open season against police officers seems dangerously simplistic, he added.

He sees the shootings more as acts of desperation.

“They are shooting at people they know have guns,” Johnson said. “I don’t know what’s going on out there, but I’ve never seen it like this. I do see the developing of a callousness. It’s almost as if shooting a police officer has lost its shock effect.”

- On Sunday, four officers were shot in a Detroit police station by a man who walked in, firing randomly. Lamar Deshea Moore was shot to death by police so his motive may never be known, but local reports say a relative was awaiting sentencing for double murder. Two of the police officers remain hospitalized. For more, read CNN’s update and affiliate reports from the scene: WXYZ-TV and WDIV-TV.

- Two deputies were shot outside a Walmart in Port Orchard, Washington, near Seattle, on Sunday. Check out CNNKIRO-TV and KOMO-TV for the latest updates.

 - A police officer is in a coma and in critical condition after being shot during a traffic stop early Sunday in Indianapolis. Check out WTHR-TV and WISH-TV for updates.

- In Lincoln City, Oregon, a police officer was shot Sunday night during a traffic stop. The officer is in critical condition. Check out affiliate KOIN-TV for more information.

Although they do not appear to be related, the weekend shootings follow two other violent incidents last week involving police officers, including the Miami killings and a slaying in Lakewood, New Jersey.

"When evening comes, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,' and in the morning, 'Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah."
The Book of Jonah MUST be understood along with the above verses and those which are similar to see that this sign is already happening. The other 'signs of the times' are all around us, and people are ignoring them (bad idea) or trying to explain them scientifically (worse idea, especially those teaching what they find).
The Book of Jonah was a sign to two generations, why do you think the story kept going after Jonah escaped the belly of the whale? First it applied to Jesus' time (Belly of the whale- referring to Christ's death and resurrection) and then the plant to shade Jonah's head and Ninevah is used for those in the times close to the fulfillment of Revelation. Two signs for two separate but equally wicked generations. If you ask me, this one's worse than ever... I was a part of it for a good while.... but I always clung to the Lord... even if it was just a little.
The plant, whether you like to hear it or not, is the cannibus plant. But the sign is NOT about the plant itself, it is just a tool that is given for temporary relief. It is about how this wicked generation beats their young FULL of worldly knowledge and temptations, how they tell them it matters, and how it literally breaks those with the mind of Christ from the inside (but the Lord won't let them destroy these people's souls... only He can do that). So they are given this one plant (not other drugs, pills, etc... men can't create their own clouds) for relief from their mental anguish. Then, the world, many parents, many authorities, science, most governments, and others beat them down for that comfort they recieve, and persecute them more. LET THEM HAVE THEIR COMFORT and patiently lead them to Christ, then they will stop using it on their own. STOP PERSECUTING NINEVAH. REPENT. (done it once – immediately the Lord was angry... I could feel it)
On the flip side – these youths in Christ must stop using it when it's time. Once they have found Him and repent and follow HIs ways and teachings, this plant becomes useless and actually a sort of hinderance to them... thus, the worm that God causes to crawl in the plant and make it wither.
They cannot value the plant as a permenant solution (especially now) and neglect the Lord. It is the shade they need from Satan while they pray, repent, learn from, and follow Jesus and His teachings... until the Spirit of truth arrives. We only recieve the Spirit of truth beyond a small temporal amount when we FOLLOW JESUS. Otherwise the Spirit comes and goes. When we follow Jesus, He asks His Father for another Counselor to come and live with us forever. The misconception that the Spirit comes and goes at this point is an illusion caused by misinterpretation. There is no need for the plant anymore at this point... even a while before that. Then, just keep following Jesus to the Father and the kingdom of heaven.

A primary goal of the 2nd amendment is to prevent tyranny. Since 9/11 the US government has taken huge steps towards a tyrannical government by abolishing our freedoms. When the populous feels that the government is no longer for the people and by the people, the government, and the rich who control it are at a higher risk of attack from those less powerful. I've long believed that a revolution is our destiny. I'm just not sure it will happen in my lifetime. History is no joke and will undoubtedly repeat. Maybe, this is a small sign of things yet to come. A question to all those who believe gun control is the answer, where will you be when the revolution starts?

The people that support gun control are the same people that wouldn't be able to function without the rigid guidelines of laws. If crap were to hit the fan.... I think not having a gun would be the last of their issues.

It's actually kind of "almost" ingenious in a way. Install a horrible administration that beats even the Carter administration for screwing up the economy & the country, get tensions so high that people start freaking out & killing each other & authorities, & then claim you need to come in like the hero & rescue us from our own guns..

I say we vote out the current crop of idiots running the country instead, & replace them with real public servants, instead of the current despots of unprecedented corruption that we have running the White House. I'm not talking about "Republican or Democrat here, I'm talking about leaders who lead from the center for once, instead of polarizing our nation for their own gain..

My condolences to the families of those brave men and women. Unfortunately guns are not the problem here. Society is to blame and cannot control every loose screw. He could have easily made a bomb or drove a car into the station. More gun control will not lessen these kinds of heinous criMes, it will only leave law abiding citizens unable to defend themselves.

You people dont understand that it has NOTHING to do with gun control laws at all. If someone REALLY wants a gun they will get it on the street. They dont need to go to a gun shop! If a cop decides to interfere with a drug deal or get involved with someone else's business there is a risk of retalliation from the sick people. And they don't have to go to a gun shop to get a gun! However, i do agree 100% that some people should NOT be carrying guns!

They don't have to buy them illegally, the can be purchased legally at gun shows or through licensed, private dealers. A huge number of the guns being used illegally are being stolen from homes where the owners are lax in protecting/securing their weapons. Too many 'law abiding' owners just aren't...they leave weapons out for childrent to find, they get angry or drunk and BANG, not to mention the thefts. The NRA is good at propaganda, but these constant mantras are foolish when people think about them "guns don't kill people...", "Do we outlaw cars....?" and "outlaws will always find guns so why even try..." Its all KAKA. It past time to regulate, control and outlaw certain offensive weapons, as well as the loopholes for gun shows/dealers and the ownership of certain weapons. The 2nd Amendment says nothing about having weapons of offensive destruction or owning anything or any number of guns. The Founding Fathers were concerned about leaders (Kings) who had a history of abusing power through standing armies at a time when the population was very small and very scattered, when there was land available for conquer. The population didn't have much in the way of tax money. Standing armes were then used for land conquest and the forced payment of citizen tribute/tax. We don't have to issues today. We have a citizen, volunteer army, being 'paid' to protect our Republic, not to protect the power of an individual. Plus, if our government/military ever decided to 'attack' the

People don't need the kind of weapons that are being used to kill police, in home invasions or to even protect themselves. If all offensive weapons were to have tough regulations, then it would be only outlaws having them...police would know that any weapon of defense or massive destruction can and should be confiscated. People who feel they have to be 'lawful' offensive gun owners have bigger, emotional problems. OUR guns aren't just being used to kill here, they are being purchased LEGALLY and smuggled across the border to be used to kill anyone who dares to oppose the cartels, offends a cartel member or just happens to be in the wrong place. Gun shows, regulate them now. Private sellers, regulate them now. Its these two areas that are responsible for much of the weapons (knowingly) being used for offensive purposes. It someone shows up looking to puchase multiple weapons whose only purpose is to kill lots of people, very fast, they have to know...
ALSO, this idea that if we were all armed we could stop some of the attacks is just naive and dangerous. I live in AZ and have been reading all the posts stating if some of the 'carrying' people had fired back fewer people would have died. BS!! The shooter didn't start raving before shooting, etc., he just walked up to Gabby and shot her in the head. He then immediately started shooting the others, it took between 35-40 seconds. The people who were armed where intelligent enough know that if they shot at him as he moved through/withing the crowd, they could just as easily killed an innocent bystander. The Congresswoman who is now carrying a weapon in her purse would never have a chance in these kinds of attacks. It is the fear of most law enforcement and reasonable/rational people that all the people now carrying would just become part of the problem, causing more injury and confusion for emergency responders. I.E. which shooter is the bad guy? how many of the people were injured by the 'good' guy? We need less guns, not more. I live in a state with some of the most lax gun laws, you can even carry a concealed weapon into a bar, but enough is enough.

To those who say make guns illegal and repeal the second ammendment, how would you implement such a law. You realize that you could potentially start a civil war. People said drugs were the problem to our country's problems, then banned them, yet they are still everywhere. Same with alcohol and prohibition. Look back in our country's history banning anything has never worked, what makes you think that banning guns would be any different.

Make it illegal to produce guns or ammunition unless they are sold to law enforcement agencies or the military. In time, this would dramatically reduce the number of guns in the hands of criminals and force them to make their own ammunition.

Look at Brazil. They have done that. Guess where the gangs all get their guns? Politicians and police. It is an unstoppable cycle. Your "solution" is no solution at all. People will always find a way. There is no such thing as a utopia, in any regards.

and please don't complain when the cops start shooting first and asking questions later. With local governments across this country giving the green light to carrying around guns like the wild wild west, I know that's what I would do. I can't say as I blame them.

dave, i understand what you're saying but i disagree. One would be naive to think that a criminal wanting to commit a crime would not find the means to perpetrate it with. With that as a premise, your changes to the law may make it more difficult to obtain a gun, but would not prevent the crime from occuring.

People need cars because they can't walk themselves with their feet. Cowards would rather drive a car than walk to their destinatiom. I cracked when I saw the guys driving their cars to the rallies and i thought they must have walked growing up.. I'm smart enough to know that people in rural areas drive from an early age and raised with the car from the crib to the grave , but the suburban driver is the real joke here. They took any vehicle away from their kids because of the dangers of driving.

When police enforce the law the same to all people mabey change will come. What about all the innocent people who are attacked by police and then it is covered up. Just because you are a cop does not mean you are honest. Why do cops get suspended with pay. Just because you are a cop laws apply to you the same as to me and others. The majority of law enforcement is good and honest people. Just like many things a few bad apples spoils the whole bunch. I appreciate everything the police do to protect and serve us. Many thanks for all do. Lets hear more about the good rather than the bad.
