Elementary school principal killed in shooting; man arrested

The principal of an elementary school in northern California was shot to death Wednesday, police said.

Placerville Police Chief George Nielsen identified the victim as Sam Lacara, 50, the principal of Schnell School, who was shot in the upper torso.

John Luebbers, 44, a custodial employee, was arrested in connection with the shooting, which was believed to have stemmed from a dispute between the two men, Nielsen said.

No schoolchildren were injured, but authorities believe one student may have seen the shooting.

Why are we so reluctant in this country to take a fresh look at how guns play a major part in the murder rate? This is a country of backward thinking ideas that have no place in a so called civilized society. Man is the only animal that I know that spends as much time and energy in the demise of his own kind.

Yes let's ignore the causes of violence and focus on the methods of violence. You would have no methods without the causes. Why not clean up the trash being pumped into your homes via TV or radio? "Oh we can't do that! Freedom of speech!" Says the ignorant dead American.

Go to a shooting range, rent a gun, shoot for fun for a while, return the gun.

      Problem solved.

I do not understand the point of violence. What good does it do? All it does is throw you in jail.

We don't live in a plastic bubble where everything can be protected and safeguarded. You can put all the security measures you want, but the truth is life is dangerous. I cannot believe how much we try and lock down everything in our lives, including the latest car which tests you for alcolhol before letting you drive even if you don't drink. I hope they get this guy quickly and punish him to the extent of the law.

Police have been taking guns of the streets since the beginning of law enforcement. How ever we fail to notice that we ban drugs, they're illegal. Some how we still have people who break the law. Isn't that crazy that there are people who although its illegal still do drugs, still buy them use them sell them even though its illegal. Does that mean that say the people with glocoma who are allowed to use narcotics because they went through the right channels to obtain it are bad? Not neccesarily and are there those people who abuse it? Undoubtedly. Can criminals obtain guns without going through a dealer? Uhhhh duh. Should those people who arnt criminals be able to purchase guns? Uh yeah. Is a minute population of those people going to eventually do wrong with them? Undoubtedly. Lastley all you anti gun lunes probably shouldn't own a car if your going to blow past stop signs and drive too fast. or commit any crime big or little. You also don't deserve to live under this flag. Bye

Maybe they should start requiring IQ tests and psych evaluations prior to buying a weapon. If people kill people then maybe we should alter the people who can obtain a weapon. Cowards use guns because it's the easiest way to kill someone without any physical or mental effort. Would hunters really hunt if deer could shoot back? I seriously doubt it. I'm not opposed to hunting just stating an unavoidable truth.

I love how people against any gun control laws just give one solution. Let's just give everyone guns! If those 4th graders would have been allowed to carry guns none of this would have happened! Guns for everyone!! Right. Get a clue. The point is they are WAY too easy to get in this country. And yes I am for an absolute complete ban on guns for every private citizen who is not a law enforcement officer. Less random killings and less mentally challenged people walking around w
    ith deadly weapons.

"You can buy something that looks like an assault rifle, but it's semi automatic so by definition it is not an assault rifle." What a moronoc statement. I love it..."by definition." It's a freaking killing toy is what it is..by ANY definition. Yeah, and for all you morons who think guns are just fine....remember that the next time a toddler finds one and blows his brother's head off thinking it's a toy. Doesn't happen? Yeah right. Last week a 5-year old brought a loaded gun to his school. Thankfully, the teacher found it before he could "show it off to his friends." Just too many gun-owning morons out there. New law: If you think you need to own a gun, there should be one test you must take. Put one bullet in, spin it, and play Russian roulette. If you survive, you can keep your gun.

Hmmm. So the new law is, "If you want to carry a gun, take a one in six chance of killing yourself first."

You sir have the morals of a reincarnated Adolf Hitler.

"I vote for metal detectors & office areas being "separated" from classrooms by bullet-proof glass that requires a special key to get thru or "buzzed" in. Could be automatically locked if a buzzer was pushed, disengaging the key access. Me-I'll keep my concealed weapon with my permit thank you." Hey lets just send our kids to prison instead !!

I'll vote for that if you can't teach them well enough to keep them from becoming monsters....
Stop blaming those who aren't to blame for wanting to take steps to protect kids from bad parenting and the monsters they have wrought. Step up and teach them a better way. Yeah...didn't think you would. How about you go and teach parents how to be better at parenting and teaching the value of life to their children. No? Then don't come off as a jerk to those who actually make a suggestion even if you don't agree with it and all you can respond with is bitter and lackluster responses. You just wear your ignorance on your sleeve like a badge at that point. Make a better suggestion ...we're all waiting to see your brilliance showered down upon us. Fact is steps need to be taken, the problem is NOT getting any better. I for one would rather see bad parents with a single minded view thrown in jail for child abuse when they teach their children to hate or take a completely hands off approach to parenting to begin with, but that's not likely so here we are again, open to your brilliant suggestions. These children just saw a man murdered in cold blood right in front of them and will bear emotional and mental scars for a long time if not life. If his above suggestion had stopped it from happening would you be so fast to run off to one sided snarky land again or would you finally have something with some intelligence behind it to add?
