Monday's intriguing people

Paul Haggis

The award-winning writer-director of “Crash” has given The New Yorker an interview detailing the inner workings of Scientology. A member for 35 years, Haggis broke with the church in 2009 after it refused to condemn Proposition 8, which made marriage an institution between only man and woman in California.

In his letter of resignation to spokesman Tommy Davis, Haggis wrote that he could not align himself with an organization that would back "that hate-filled legislation." He concluded, “Silence is consent, Tommy. I refuse to consent.”

Wael Ghonim

The Google executive in Egypt is expected to be released Monday afternoon after becoming an opposition spokesman against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. In a phone interview with CNN, Hazzem Ghonim said that he last spoke to his brother January 28.

Wael Ghonim has long used his Twitter page to voice his opposition. On January 27, he wrote: “Pray for #Egypt. Very worried as it seems that government is planning a war crime tomorrow against people. We are all ready to die."

Jerry Jones

The owner of the Dallas Cowboys set out to break an attendance record with Sunday’s Super Bowl. Unsuitable temporary seating quashed that, and some 400 ticket holders denied seats are expected to get a refund of triple the cost of the face value - $800 - of their ticket.

They were allowed in the stadium to watch the game on monitors or from standing platforms in each corner of the stadium, the NFL said.

"It was terribly mismanaged, and we're just beside ourselves," said an unnamed Pittsburgh Steelers fan between tears.

The NFL promised to look into the matter: "We regret the situation and inconvenience it may have caused."

The for-profit cult known as Scientology is a great scam. I was a failed sci-fi writer until I hit upon this idea to create a B.S. religion revolving around aliens that a bunch of ignorant Hollywood types and hippies would eat up. My pinnacle was conning the federal government into granting my cult non-profit status in exchange for not persecuting and prosecuting former members who wised up.

Thanks for clearing that up Ron. I mean...everyone already knew that but thanks for confirming anyway.

LOL...What the hell does this even mean?! Makes no sense. Please come back when you learn how to put a sensible argument together.

You might want to re-read what I wrote ... I was not part of the GO, DSA nor OSA.

Believe it or not, there are many good people who are Scientologists. There are also jerks in every group including Scientology, and frankly, I wouldn't consider them Scientolgists if they support, condone, or take part in these illegal actions.

I'm glad that people are no longer afraid of publishing such information about Scientology. Despite the cult's pathetic attempts to damage control, the truth will get out.

    @Louanne & Jeanne:
Could you put me in the direction of TCOS's PR department? I'd love a job where all I have to do is make up stuff about evil media conspiracies out to make TCOS look like they're all crazy, insane and a collection of dangerous individuals (by reason of said insanity) and also abusing their tax-free status.

Let's see, let me try. All these people in the media talking about Scientology and this Galactic Overlord Xenu dumping a bejillion aliens into a giant volcano and making bad feelings soup out of them are just suppresive persons trying to subvert his holiness, L. Ron's followers. Also, if you're not OT III and haven't fully paid up yet remember you're not allowed to read that yet. If you inadvertently have, all faithful followers are directed to smash themselves in the head with a ball-peen hammer until they've forgotten that this whole church is based on the insane rantings of one lunatic / gawd-awful hack sci-fi writer.

Isn't Haggis a Scottish dish that's traditionally made of sheep and duck innards, chopped together and boiled in the sheep's stomach? Coincidence? Hmmmm, methinks not!

If any of you haven't read that story on Haggis and Scientology, you must. It's an AMAZING article. I had no idea how corrupt scientology had become. They are sick sick people.
