Rep. Christopher Lee resigns amid reports that he tried to meet women on Craigslist

Rep. Christopher Lee , a New York Republican, has resigned after reports surfaced that the married congressman was trying to meet women on Craigslist, a GOP source told CNN.

Lee acknowledged making "profound mistakes" and said his decision to step down was voluntary.

"It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York. I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness," he said in a statement.

"The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately."

The allegations were first reported Wednesday afternoon on Gawker.

I wonder who leaked the photo? Yes, he is held to higher standards just by being married! This isn't an innocent photo; who knows who he's hooked up with I'm sure this wasn't his first attempt to hook up; he's probably hooked up many times, but maybe this will be his last since he was caught! I found an email my husband responded to an escort on craigslist but the idiot didn't realize our email wasn't hooked up and it was stuck in the outbox..ha ha! He didn't post a photo, but he described himself just as the senator here did. I called him on the carpet and he played dumb. I forgave him and moved forward, but who knows right? Also my husband is not one to represent a people of the higher moral majority lets say.

nobody "leaked" the photo–the moron posted it on Craiglist for anyone to see. And btw I can't believe you just forgave your husband and moved forward without even resolving the situation....if he lied and never admitted it, he's hardly on the path to honesty and renewal. Get a clue! I say that for your own good, lady

JohnQ - You would appear, from your Nazi comment to be a boy who hasn't a clue what he is talking about. I assume that you are calling the GOP a Nazi Party? Misled perhaps, foolishly in love with Big Business, Wall Street, Insurance Companies, and Millionaires perhaps, but Nazi NO.

The arrogance of leadership in both the Republican and Democratic Party seems to be more than these politicians can handle. I remember when good ole Billy did his deed in the Oval office the Republicans were all over his back until the media "turned out" at least six Republicans who then admitted to adultery. One of those six is even now thinking of running for President, right Newt?

This nonsense goes on and on in both parties and it is sad. But, it isn't limited to politicians. Organized religion seems to be a lure for these fools also. Remember Jimmy Swaggart with his multiple adultery, and the Jimmy and Fay Baker with their crappola. It seems that some people just cannot handle Leadership in anything.

Two more examples - Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann, the blantant lying duo who claimed there were "Death Panels in the Health Care Bill? Facts did nothing for those two. When will it stop? I do not believe it will. Sad, isn't it?

Typical, tea bagger, can't take responsibility for any actions you take, I see plenty of comments here by liberals about Clinton, so yes, we do look at ourselves and take accountability for our actions more seriously than any conservative tea-bagger ever will.

After all, your heroes, Reagan and Ollie North are traitors who sold weapons to a terrorist nation who used them to kill Americans and then Reagan and North gave the cash to anotehr set of terrorists (the contras) who used it to buy coccaine to fund their activities. The republican tea-bagger response? Enshrine Reagan, Pardon North, and ignore teh fact your whole party is a bunch of traitors who refuse to take accountability for their actions.

That good enough for you smart guy? Go back to Fauxnews and post there einstein.

John J., I have to respectively disagree. I'm certainly not saying that Rep's have a corner on behavior that would be considered immoral, but more often than not, when they are exposed, everyone surrounds the wagons and protects them. I have often seen that when a dem. is caught, that people do not defend that person but rather condemn their behavior. That is the general pattern that I have seen numerous times. Besides, is your defense of this person that "they do it too?" FAIL.

I tend to disagree. The Democrats do not force family values down people's throat. While I myself encourage family values, it is not my place in a free country to tell others how to live their lives. It is the sheer hipocrisy here that is being called out in reference to the GOP. In sum, practice what you preach or stop preaching.

      Oh Johnny Boy...

The difference is, we liberals don't go around with this holier than thou, family values, personal responsibility crap that you righters love to dump on everyone.

Libs and Conservs both cheat and have affairs, we just don't pretend to be morally superior and then go out and do it. Its called HYPOCRACY! Ever heard of that word? The republican mantra is very simple to understand: "Do as we say, not as we do". Nothing more disgusting than gay republicans bashing gays and supporting anti-gay legislation.... Ken Melman?

Here is my post from below, just so you won't miss it...

      Oh, my god!
