Saudi Arabia considers matching U.S. military aid to Egypt

To alleviate U.S. pressure on the Egyptian army, Saudi Arabia would consider matching the estimated $1.5 billion the United States provides Egypt in military aid each year if Washington decides to cut its aid to the troubled North African nation, an Arab diplomat says.

Actually you SHOULD care what happens in the middle east, unless you already happen to walk or bicycle to everywhere you go.

I very much agree with you. When did Israel become the 51st state? Why must we always borrow money to GIVE to them. They only thing they do is create more problems for themself and run around the global asking for money or making Christians feel guilty and pressure their government (US) to give them money. NUTS. We should not give 10 cents to Egypt, Israel, Jordon, Syria none of them. They are independent countries and our contributions are only helping to create conflict. if they stood on their own two feet they would sue for peace tomorrow. This is NONE of our business. None of these countries are a big trading partner of the US, we have NO vital interest in the region, heck they don't even export oil. B.S. not a dime I say not a dime.

Why does the US need to borrow money from Saudia Arabia and then give it to Egypt. We are swimming in red ink. We either borrow from Saudia Arabia or from China. These countries CHARGES us INTEREST and then we GIVE it to Egypt. I have an idea... have the Saudis give them twice as much and we don't give them anything !!! Cuts out the middleman and reduces our long term exposure of interest.

We should tell Saudi Arabia to "Go for it". We could then give $1000 each to 5 million of our poorest tax payers to boast our economy.

Remember, aid from the Saudis comes with strings attached:

    - The Saudi king is disgusted that his buddy Mubarak is being booted out of office.

    http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/106555/20110129/saudi-king-expresses-support-for-mubarak.htm

    - Saudi Arabia is a state sponsor of Wahhabism, the root of much of today's crisis within Islam.

    http://www.meforum.org/535/saudi-arabia-and-the-rise-of-the-wahhabi-threat

    - You can bet that if SA aid supplants US aid, the Moslem Brotherhood will quickly rise to the top of Egypt's political food chain, and we'll end up with more "clerics" like Ayman al-Zawahiri, this guy:

    http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/wanted_terrorists/ayman-al-zawahiri /

    - Saudi aid would no doubt come with a strong anti-Israeli push.

We can save six billion dollars and pretty much be guaranteed that the largest Arab country in the world makes a sharp turn towards Sharia law, or we can support the possibility of a democratic, secular Arab state and at least have a chance that the end result will be something similar to what the US has been trying to nurture as an answer to terrorism: a democratic Arab nation with religious tolerance that provides rich capitalist opportunities for its citizens.

The answer to the crisis in Egypt is not retreat, it is continued engagement.

We have to keep giving them money otherwise we loose the leash. We have been doing pretty good over the last century holding the strings, supporting a dictator here and there and helping a military coup here and there and we must keep our grip. We are America.. and we are the biggest hypocrites and terrorists in the world.

The US provides more than just money to Egypt. The US provides them with training and advanced weaponry like the M1A1 Tanks. The Saudi proposal is essentially an autocratic regime trying to buy off another into committing genocide against its people.

Muslims should not spend money to go to Mecca for pilgrimage under the tyrannic ruler in Saudi Arabia. It will be a sin to give away money to these ignorants for nothing.

Your comment shows that you are clueless.

BTW .... Saudi Arabia is a hotbed for gays. It is against the law for you to hold your wife's hand, embrace her, or kiss her in public. It is perfectly acceptable for 2 guys to do it. Lesbians are not accepted there.
