3 teenage boys among 7 Somalis facing death in Malaysia piracy case

Seven Somalis, including three boys under 15 years old, could face the death penalty if convicted on charges of firing on Malaysian armed forces while attempting to a hijack a merchant ship.

The seven appeared before a Malaysia magistrate in Kuala Lumpur on Friday to hear the charges against them. They did not enter a plea and were transferred to a prison to await the next court action, set for March 15, the Malaysian national news agency Bernama reported.

The charges stem from an attack on the container ship Bunga Laurel in the Gulf of Aden on January 20.

Malaysian authorities say the seven suspects fired on Malaysian navy commandos who were trying to rescue the Bunga Laurel from pirates. Three suspects were injured in the gunbattle, and the ship and its crew of 23 were rescued, according a report in The Star.

The Bunga Laurel was registered in Panama, owned by a Japanese company, crewed by Filipinos and chartered by a Malaysian company, according to news reports.

Prosecutors argued Friday that the attempted piracy endangered Malaysia's national security, providing legal authority for the seven to be tried in Malaysia, Bernama reported.

If these pirates were worth their salt, they would have released the Kraken on the Malaysian forces. Just make sure that you don't let them start singing before you hang them.

Although I typically oppose the death penalty, I am convinced that executing this trash is the only way that the rest of the bucked-tooth monkeys are ever going to stop this.

The commandos shot back and missed? Not too good of a shot. Anyone remember the US soldier that shot and killed the pirates? That was from a large distance on the waves.

They need to bepublically hung and well hung at that! Shipping nations should band together and hire either Korean's, the Malaysian navy or US Black Ops Commando's to take out these idiots as soon as they hit the water. Who is going to miss a tiny boat with idiots on board? Better yet, the UN needs to take control of Samalia and reestablish a real government there and oust the current thugs.

I don't think they should be hanged. I don't think they should have even been brought to port for arrest. I do think think that when they were captured, they should have just been shot and their boat sunk. Don't make them martyrs. Just make them disappear and keep their friends guessing!

After reading some of these comments I got to wondering. The Malaysian death penalty rule doesn't seem to stop the pirates, maybe it only makes sheeple feel better about their stupid, pathetic selves.

Piracy costs us all in higher prices for goods that pass through the Gulf of Aden and should be dealt with harshly. However, 15 year old kids seem to warrant a different penalty then death. I think they should be sentenced to school. 🙂

I don't believe these poor boys really didn't know what they were doing, or were doing it for others. Maybe they should be sentenced to some sort of community service, but DEFINITELY not prison. After all, they are only boys..

Since the official religion of Malaysia is Islam and these Somali pirates are Muslims that should end the neoconservative argument that Muslims do not hold Muslim terrorists accountable.

You will see this alot, this is what happens when you label everyone a terrorist. Now the term is used basically at wish. You know who to thank. I'll refrain, don't want anyone dropping turds in their diapers like they typically do when you present facts.
