Chief Palestinian negotiator resigns

Saeb Erakat has submitted his resignation as the chief Palestinian negotiator, according to Mohammed Shtayeh, Palestinian negotiator and a Fatah Central Committee member.

Erakat had previously said that he would resign his post if an investigation into the leak of Palestinian negotiating documents aired by the Al-Jazeera television network proved that the source of papers came from his office.

The so-called Palestine Papers suggested that Palestinian negotiators offered to give up large swaths of East Jerusalem to Israel during talks dating back to 2008 and that they had been willing to offer much larger concessions in private than they were publicly acknowledging.

    The Palestinian did get over the ugly history. They offered a lot more than they should. Yet they still did not get any thing in return. Tom freedman said last week that Israel lost huge opportunity to make peace. So stupid.

      Can you elaborate on this? I'd like to know what exactly Palestinians OFFERED, if you don't mind. (Hint: one can only offer what he/she/them HAVE and can give).

      They offered more of Jerusalem, reduced the right of return, agreed for much less land than what the UN offered. They even gave up on UN 242 and 338. There was even discussion of recognizing Israel as a jewish state. There are over 10% of Israel citizen who are christain and Muslim. I am really hoping for real and just peace.

      Apparently, you did not read my hint, "Peace"... You see, one can only offer what he/she/them have and can give. Palestinians DID NOT and DO NOT have Jerusalem, 95% of them NEVER lived in Israel and can not "return" to a place where they've NEVER been... and the UN offer of 1948 ended the very same day the Arabs rejected it.

      @Peace: They even gave up on UN 242 and 338.

      BOTH these UN Resolutions declared that ALL states in the region (and it means Israel, too) had a right to EXIST in safe and secure boundaries. Most of the Arab states and the Palestinians did not "give up" on UN 242 and 338. They did not accept these Resolution in the first place and they still did not recognize the right of Israel to exist in ANY boundaries.

    Obama's doing fine. Without lifting a finger, and hopefully keeping his mouth shut, he's gonna do what so many have tried. Peace in the middle east. Just watch.

      I agree, he seems to know what needs to be and hopefully, he will keep his mouth shut.
      The public opinion is just too polarized by prejudice to have much meaning and the big oil interests don’t care who they destroy in service to their endless greed, but wise diplomacy can resolve these issues.

    Who knew a lot thousand legs and other dirt were filty filled in the wood? First it was going after 9-11 terrorists. Then it became spreading democracy. The it jumped to saving us from WMD part of which we executed sadam. All these lies turned out untrue, and now the negotiations involved secretly giving land to our ally israel. Anymore truth left to be learned? Let the Tunisian flood that raked mubarak sweep all the nasty trash as we look on. Praise be to God for a New Day. Hope these revolution helps comfort the kids and revive their lost hopes and faith. May they dream again.

      Well, 9/11 terrorist acts actually DID happen. The US actually DID go after them. Saddam actually HAD and USED chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction. The ONLY lie (and a pretty ridiculous one) in your statement above is the claim about "giving land to Israel" (secretly or otherwise).

    You guys speak as if you have lived or visited a country in the Middle East. Quit watching your biased media and relying on their exaggerated news that sway so far away from the truth. "goons" of Gaza are people that have been operessed economically. When a family rations 3 lbs of bread a month and an average of 3lbs of rice what do you expect? America doesn't have ghettos.

      I would expect these people to demand their democratically elected government (in this case, Hamas) to take better care of their economic situation. I would expect these people to demand heir democratically elected government (in this case, Hamas) to NEGOTIATE a peace agreement with Israel that would allow easier trade and travel in and out of Gaza. Am I expecting too much from them, Mohammed?

    His reminds me of watching children playing in the sand box. Building their imaginary utopian society's. When other kids want to play, the first kid gets protective and starts hoarding the sand and builing a fortress. No empire lasts! Just look at all the ruins across the world. So instead of fighting over land, share the land and the cultures. Forgive and exsist together,

    @leeintulsa & Ruby:

    I agree totally. I'm going to be raked over the coals over this, but I think President Obama's response to Egypt's plight is appropriate and the only reasonable one he could have arrived at.

  9. Malichai Solomon Ben-Judah

    When David fled from Saul to the Philistines as a youth and they offered him refuge, they questioned him concerning his future as ruler over the Israelites once Saul was out of the way. Saying how there were prophecies of how their G-d would destroy them and drive them into the sea. David responded to them letting them know who was he to argue with the Lord. Later on, he did to those opposing nations exactly what G-d prophecied. Israel was always promised to the Jew and will always be the Jew's its G-d's promise. No different then a parent buying one toy for his youngest son and a different toy for the elder son. If the Elder son tries to TAKE what is not his from the younger, the younger will cry to his Father, and a punishment will be given. The same scenario will go to ANYONE who tries to separate what G-d has given to the Jew.

    @Ruby:

    Were you referring to me in your "small and foolish" post? I certainly hope not, because bigotry *is* foolish, and other than me using "cupcake" in my post, there was no name-calling on my part. I do, however, dislike being called brain-dead, which is why I answered the way I did. I also dislike spamming, which is what personny does on every post personny makes; personny just changes the nation in the post. I combined two posts into one. Sorry I didn't clarify.

    AMERICA MUST PRESSURE ISRAEL FOR REAL PEACE, ISRAEL WILL GET REAL PEACE IF NEGOTIATE WITH HAMAS

      There is no need to "pressure" Israel. Israel will gladly negotiate with ANY Palestinian leadership (including Hamas) that is ABLE AND WILLING to stop violence and negotiate a peace agreement.

    The truth will come out... Zionist can't keep tying to design imaginary friends. The truth of the matter is, no one in the middle east trust Zionist, but they tolerate them because of they're successful sympathy campaign through media and movies (and they're paid off my the West i.e Egypt) . It sad when the US has to pay a country just tolerate the Zionist "Gods children" The jig is up... On June 8, 1967, 34 American sailors of the USS Liberty lost their lives serving their country. These Americans died when Israel, America's "ally," attacked them...trying to provoke the US to join they're petty war.... It didn't work...although on 9/11 it work well huh? We pray for the real Jewish people... These Zionist atheist... time is up...tick tock tick tock.
