Sun has biggest solar flare of the year

If you live at a high northern or southern latitude, watch for some spectacular lights in the sky Tuesday night.

The sun unleashed its strongest solar flare of the year Sunday, and the cloud of radiation it spewed will hit Earth's magnetic field Tuesday, NASA said.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded a brief but intense flash signaling the ejection of a cloud of ultraviolet radiation.

The source of the flare, sunspot 1158, is growing rapidly, the observatory reported.

Oh my – so many warped facts in such a simple report !

First, the sunspot group is 11158, not 1158 – it's identified as 1158 on picture because the id in the communication protocol for these things is limited to 4 digits

Second, Any "light" (aurora) show won't occur before another 2 or 3 days (not Today) because it DOES take a little time for the particles ejected by the CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) don't travel THAT fast.

Third, the event (A Class X2 CME) is the largest – not for this year – but since 2006 – and IS thus an important event.

It takes ~ 8 minutes for light from the sun to arrive here on Earth. If the sun "exploded" right now, it would take ~ 8 minutes from the time of the event to the end of our planet. I'm not buying one photon of your strange 2 to 3 day delay theory.

@minos - he isnt talking about photons traveling at the speed of light. go read up on aurorae, then come back to tell us what you learned

They said Jesus was coming soon, I hope he takes me for a ride on his flying horse when He comes.

Even through great times of trouble like solar flares and Egypt, the Lord is with me. He will turn my blood into wine and drink of me.

should be nothing to be alarmed about...as long as NASA just observes it and doesnt try to screw with it

Sunspot 1158? Wow, what kind of dope are these guys on? 1158? Let me get this straight. These guys are getting paid to actually catalougue these things? Something no one has control over. Paid by tax money to catalogue sunspots for millions of years till the sun dies out? I want $100,000 a year catalogueing spots on the coats of dalmations. 🙂

@Red State...close. But the .UN is what you are looking for. The aniti-christ is obviously opposed to Jesus, claiming to do what only Jesus can do: bring peace to the earth. Who would believe a single president could do this? Nobody. But if the UN proclaimed peace had at long last been found? And really, how can there be peace, without peace between man and the one true God. We believe in God, or so we say. Any proclamtion of peace between all nations will be a lie. Until there is peace between man and God, there will be no peace. (duh)

Who's we? Are you saying you would stand in the way of peace unless it's in the name of your diety? Kinda sounds like a threat...

Hope we do not have to much cloud cover for the next couple of nights. I have not seen a good aurora in many years. In fact have seen none in the past 4 or 5. I live in the country so do not have to worry about street lights.

C'mon you people. 85% of US claim to believe in God. Is it even possible, that in the minds of those whom believe in God, that there can be peace on this earthwithout peace between mankind, and God? Do YOU yoursel even consider this? I think not. Do your political leaders sue for peace with God? Or do they bribe foreign leaders to make it look like true peace is there, when really, there is no peace: only a powderkeg waiting to go off at the drop of a hat(aka:revolt for peace) Get a clue. Most of you claim to be "Christian", yet you place your hopes for peace on earth squarely on the shoulders of men belonging to your chosen political party, rather than on the God in whom you profess belief.. Men will NOT, and cannot bring to this earth. Only He whom you yourselves proclaim as your savior can, and will, do this. So why is it then, that you yourselves place your trust in men, rather than God? Is it for the men (politicians) who look after you own special interests? If not, then why?

Umm. For the record, i put my trust in ALL men. Except people like you, of course. You pray, sing songs, get fed your daily thoughts. The rest of us are gonna try to get something done.

And you who claim to serve the One living God. Why is it that yiu are not here proclaiming that which I have just said. Are you yourselves afraid of men? Are you afraid the government will "persecute" you for this? Is it not written that true "Christians SHALL be persecuted"? Stand up! and proclaim from the rooftops, that only the Prince of Peace can bring 'true peace and security' to this eath. Do not be afraid...for God is with you. If you yourselves do not do this here, it is left for a mere pebble...a simple rock (like myself) to do so. And it will be on YOUR shoulders when your God inquires "why is it that Philip, a man in whom I have not approved, is the only man who would willingly stand up and make a case for my namesake?" Do you want this?

@all who do not believe. YOU are minorities. For as is a statistic, over 85% of US profess belief in a one-true God. I was NOT adressing you whom believe that a mere political party can bring peace to this earth. So why do you reply, when it was not you whom have been addressed? (unless it is your one feeble chance to display your ignorance of that which has been made clear: man cannto, will not, and does not truly desire...peace on this earth, though he pretends.

85% profess, huh? I'll let you have it. Stats can be found to prove anything. A whopping 100% of married people profess they don't cheat. But if you are not talking to me, why are you talking? Wouldn't everyone who believes as yot do already know? Maybe they haven't got the memo yet?
