The day of the Scottish deerhound has finally come at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Hickory, a 5-year-old female from Virginia, became the first of her breed to win Best in Show at Westminster, taking the top prize on the second and final day of the event at New York's Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.
The victory also is only the fifth at Westminster for a dog from the hound group. The Best in Show prize has been given for 104 years.
"It's just the thrill of a lifetime," Hickory's handler, Angela Lloyd, told USA Network, which showed the contest. "People who own, breed (and) show dogs dream of this day their whole entire lives, and here we are."
FULL STORY
Both of my dogs are rescue dogs; I wouldn't have it any other way. I wish I could rescue *all* unwanted and abused animals; I do, however, know my limitations, and that's why I donate. (I donate anonymously; no unwanted phone calls or mail that way. It's also not tax-deductable in some cases, but it's not about that, anyway!)
@TheEightBall:
I'd love to come up with the answer; look what Vick did! Yes, he was punished, but he's being hailed as a $#@*! hero and champion of animal rights, when I think it's pretty obvious the people who is doing the things to your poor pits are his former "peers", and his "message" are not reaching the right ears. I pray there are more like you to help both the animal and the human condition; sadly, I doubt it.
Why can't you people just be happy for the owners & handler of this beautiful dog? why do you have to turn this into a podium to spout your often misinformed opinions?
