Dad in toxic truck case charged with attempted murder

Jorge Barahona, whose dead daughter and injured son were found in his pest-control truck beside a Florida interstate, has been charged with attempted murder, and police were executing a search warrant on his Miami home Thursday night, police said.

The bizarre series of events involving Barahona and two of his four adopted  children began Monday about 5:30 a.m., when a roadside assistance ranger with the Florida Department of Transportation stopped to check a red Toyota pickup parked on the side of the highway near West Palm Beach and found the 10-year-old boy inside next to an open gas can, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed by detectives.

The boy "appeared to be in respiratory distress and (was) trembling," and his clothing "was soaked with an unknown chemical," the affidavit said.

The ranger then found Barahona on the ground beside the truck and called for help.

The boy was hospitalized in intensive care with severe burns to his abdomen, upper thighs and buttocks, the affidavit said. While examining the boy, doctors noted he had sustained previous injuries, including a broken collarbone, a broken arm, scarring to his buttocks and lower abdomen, and ligature marks on both wrists, police said.

After Barahona and his son were taken to a hospital, a worker decontaminating the truck discovered the body of the girl, wrapped in a plastic bag, the document said.

The 53-year-old exterminator suffered a self-inflicted injury Thursday morning after deputies told him to get ready to go to a court hearing, West Palm Beach Police spokesman Scott Chase said.

Not to take anything away from the heinousness of the crimes this sub-human has committed, a LOT of people share in the responsibility to have let something like this happen. Social workers, adoption agencies, foster care supervisors... I bet there's a number of folks out there trying real hard to convince themselves they did all they could have done so they can sleep at night... yeah, right!

I mean, take ONE look at the guy. Would you let him be your daughter's guardian?

This man doesn't deserve any remorse at ALL. He needs to be done the way he has done those children. Pour some kind of toxin on him like acid and let him die a very painful death. But Im not a judge. He needs to rot in prison and die there. The death penalty is a easy way out. This is a monster not a human. God bless both the children.

I see, so WHICH is it? Dissolve him by torture? Or not judge and let a court handle it?
Honestly, if it were MY choice, he'd get capital punishment. BUT, I'm not a court of law and evidence has not been presented to me. I have NO interest in paying to keep someone alive that cannot be rehabilitated. I have a GREAT interest in sending a message about things unacceptable in our society.
Now, if only he'd tell the authorities what he soaked the 10 year old in, WHILE he still has a LITTLE skin...

I think the sorry S.O.B should rout in jail and let the inmates and maybe even the guards beat his ass every day. I have 2 kids and would probably have someone tie him up and abuse him all day every, if he did that to my kids. he needs to suffer like those poor children had too.

Drop him in a tub of Lye and let him soak. Sadly it's wont help the little boy and his sister, but at least it will make most of us feel a bit better.

No no no kids- This is America: If he's got money for some hot-shot lawyer, he could possibly get away with it, Which is sad to say, but that is how it goes sometimes- and he most likely will not recieve the death penalty or even a life sentence..

To the twins I am very sorry this happened to you. Could this have been avoided if the investegator had been more deligent? This problem is systematic of child justice in general, what a sick , vulgar situation children go through not only in good ole America but in most of the world

You must not wish harm on this evil man.

God will deal with him in his own manner.
