Dollars & Sense: Housing crisis not over; oil prices surge

A roundup of today's CNNMoney news:

'Substantial risk' of 25% drop in home prices: National home prices fell 4.1% during the last three months of 2010, compared with 12 months earlier. And things may get a lot worse.

Should you pay off your house?: An increasing number of homeowners are wondering if it makes sense to hasten the day they can say goodbye to a big monthly expense while earning the equivalent of a decent, guaranteed return.

Oil prices surge 6% on Libya unrest: Worries about widespread supply disruptions are causing oil prices around the world to spike. And drivers are getting worried they may soon see $4 gas at the pump. But an industry group says the world has plenty of oil so there’s no need to panic.

Teachers under attack: Hundreds of thousands of school employees - teachers, as well as aides, school nurses, librarians, administrators and bus drivers - could lose their jobs in coming months. And a growing number of governors and lawmakers are taking aim at teachers' rights to collectively bargain. Meanwhile, Detroit is closing half its schools.

Motorla Atrix: Smart but needs work: If you’re holding out for the next cool phone, you might need to wait just a tad longer. Motorola's super-powered Android phone may be able to act as a netbook, but there are still bugs to work out.

Head for the hills. Illegal state defaults are coming.
Three dollar a gallon gas was just a brief respite and conditioning for four then five dollar gas.

Are you happy, people? Keep attacking the unions right to collective bargaining, and all the schools will be closing. And then the top 2% of the Nation (who do NOT provide any services beyond speculating with other people's money, and NO goods at all) will decry how bad the education has gotten in this country, while counting their money. Keep this all in mind when the unions are disbanded because of the greed of the 2%, and your boss comes in and tells you your pension is gone because a spec didn't pan out, and gee, you're gonna have to take a 5 dollar/hr pay cut because the company says so, and you have no way to fight back because you have no bargaining rights, and no way to protest. Hope you're happy, all. The conservatives are not conserving anything except their own wallets. Now they're trying to empty mine. Canada is sounding better all the time. Yay, Team US!

I meant the 2% of the wealthiest in the Nation. Sorry, but I'm angrier than a wet hen with her foot stuck in a sprinkler!

When will our government wake up and start drilling all we've got domestically? We will never be able to be independent of foreign sources but we can sure do a lot more to lessen our dependency. Look for 5 a gal for gas by summer at this rate. This unrest overseas certainly qualifies as an emergency to do what we need to to get more oil here. Obama and the domestic-drilling obstructionists are going to take us straight into a double dip recession when energy prices spike.

as for me i'm going to install a big magnet on the front of my camaro and attach it to the back of trucks and put it in neutral and let them pull me.. also i have parts off an old sail boat that im going to attach to the roof..
