Dollars & Sense: Gas prices continue to surge; trade junk for cash

A roundup of today's CNNMoney news

Washington’s budget follies: Congress may soon pass a fifth short-term funding bill in as many months just to keep Washington operating for another two to four weeks. On top of that, government agencies may also be asked to cut up to $4 billion in as-yet-unnamed programs during that period. Meanwhile, the government is getting ready for a shutdown.

'Most expensive February ever' for gas: Gasoline prices have increased nearly 12 cents a gallon this week. And analysts expect prices to increase in the next few days following a sharp rise in the price of crude oil. But what's really going on with gas prices?

A Pennsylvania town on the brink (video): Braddock used to be a thriving industrial town of 20,000. Today, its population is closer to 2,700. A massive marketing tie-up with Levi's is helping prop up the community, but the economy remains fragile.

Trade in your old junk for cash: The old sofa in your living room, the pile of sports equipment in the garage, the outgrown baby gear, the used electronics are all worth cash - lots of it.

$99 iPad rival deal - Not quite real, not quite fake: NoteSlate, a digital drawing pad, or at least the idea of one, is burning a hole in the blogosphere, despite not having been created yet.

the NoteSlate absolutely CAN'T be an iPad rival nor a Kindle clone since it's a completely different device
      .
however, it is VERY interesting for some uses especially IF it will really cost $99 (but I doubt it possible)

We use to be hard core junkers. But now there are too many out there that do in my neighborhood gas prices too high to even think about going out junkin.

Price of metal high but got to have gas to do anythin.Plus got to get to work before junkin so its not a win win. They say gas prices will only keep going up. Nonsense I tell ya.

not alot of people know this... but since i worked at the pizza hut for years... the pizza man lives off your tips.. he only gets 50cents of the delivery charge.. which won't even cover the gas..

i always remember the non-tippers and take their pizza's last.. the good tippers i take care of and try and give them any goodies i can.. like free breadstix..

In 1964 gas in the los angeles was 29.9 for reg and 31.9 for. High test. Prices have increased approx 10 times since then thanks to our government. When are we going to get a clue and restart pumping our own again and building more refineries. Electric cars don't pollute but the coal plants that produce it do.

If the people of every state would park their cars, trucks, motorcycles and anything that requires the use of gasoline and take public trans or walk or ride bikes for two days, and the truckers park their rigs for two days the government in each state and the federal gov would do something about the price of gas, they would have NO CHOICE but to fix this problem!! If need be , call in sick for same time period.. Corperations would have no other recourse other than FORCE the gov to do something to lower the prices!! It's happened before and it worked then... If you want to stop this nonsence then do this. We have to force this gov to do the things we ask of them, or start "REVOLTING" LIKE THE REST OF THE WORLD.. This worked in every country that protests their government and the abusive way they treat us, after all "WE THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY" put these greedy azzes in office and "WE THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY" can take them down and out!!! They need to be reminded who really runs this country... STOP DRIVING AND WATCH THEM SQUIRM LIKE THE WORMS THAT THEY ARE!!! Join the movement and stop being trained PETS for this government!!! Take them down a notch..

From good source we know gas prices should not got up, since we aren't getting our gas from Libya. So why the gas companies are been allowed to rise the prices ?
