4.7-magnitude earthquake hits central Arkansas

A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Arkansas just after 11 p.m. Sunday (12 a.m. ET Monday), the United States Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake's epicenter was 37 miles from Little Rock, Arkansas, USGS said.

CNN affiliate KARK received calls from a number of viewers who reported feeling the impact of the quake and seeing items on their walls shake.

More than 700 quakes have hit central Arkansas since September.

Why is Arkansas having so many quakes? Scott M. Ausbrooks of the Arkansas Geological Survey tells KARK's Gary Dee the latest quakes are on a previously unknown fault.

Peeps, you should see it this way:
If there are NO earthquakes at all then the chances of getting a huge one will become higher and higher due time, but if there are smaller earthquakes then the stress inside the earth crust can flow away with each one of them, so it's saver to have loads of smaller ones then none at all.
Then again, it does not takes away the yellowstone problem, that one will stay and will blow one day. When? It can be today but it also can be in tens of thousands of years.

As a student of geology, I'm aware that the Earth's crust is constantly moving. Plate tectonics is fact now. The unstable area that lay beneath New Madriid, Mo. in 1811 is now near Little Rock, Arkansas. If there is another Terraphardt, as Dr. Hans Stucker called it, the topography of the entire area will be transformed.

Since you are a geology student, you might really like some of these sites: If you check out geo-changereport.org you will see the earthquake, volcanic activity, and tsunami trend charts. Well recognized universities and research facilities from all over the world are part of this group. From the way it has been going, we're in for some big stuff. After you take a look at that, do a search for Divine Mercy Message and read about it. Then, research the three days of darkness. The signs are here. Those who choose to look at these sites with an open mind will be better prepared. The New Madrid fault is a big issue.

It was not long ago that black birds where found dead in Arkansas & LA. If you trace wind pattern it suggest release of sulfur dioxide. Which is common release during plate movement or maga displacement. This fault is long over due for major displacement. I believe current drilling gas drilling and sequestration along an to associate fault lines are setting the east coast up for a major event. I have watch the raw data never spoken up because of fear of my ablity to provide for my family. Also knowing that my life will in jeopardy because others that have are no longer here or will never work again. I can only hope & pray you look for the truth it is in plain sight.

good theory however when a necropsy was done on the birds the scientists found no chemical traces to explain the birds' deaths. The deaths were attributed to "blunt force trauma" as from smacking into buildings and wires and such.

    DEMAND some answers CNN.

4.7??? Fracking???? This thing was felt as far away as ATLANTA.

    http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/d...index.html

why have there been NO studies done on this? and why haven't they stopped the fracking for a while to see if they would stop? Why are noone asking any relevant questions? These swarms are building to new peaks each time. Higher and Higher. last time it was a 4.2, now a 4.7. What next a 5.6? 6.6?

It's just irritating how complacent people are, and how they believe anything the Gov feeds them. How about they stop the fraking for a couple of weeks to see if these quakes will stop? NO NO, that would cost too much money.

CNN, just like the rest of the media doesn't want us all freaking out. That's why our government is doing absolutely nothing to alert us. However, people with an open mind are seeing through it (like yourself). Here is some info. you might like ...

I'm not surprised that Arkansas had a moderate earthquake. They are, after all, right next door to the incredibly huge New Madrid fault in far SouthEast Missouri. When that fault last shook, the Mississippi River ran backwards and church bells rang in Boston...from the shaking! That was, I believe, in 1810-1812. When the New Madrid fault shakes again, the cities of Memphis and St. Louis will experience catastrophic amounts of damage.

It's not a matter of "if", only "when".

Some people get overly excited and distort the truth. The Lord described many things that would be happening prior to His return and He said that when we saw ALL these things happening we would know that the end was near. We seem to be the generation that is witnessing these things which He said would not pass until all be fulfilled. The only way to escape is to enter a relationship with the One who is in control of these events, namely Jesus Christ. “…for it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of all the earth. …keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." Running for the hills is a bit extreme. No one could survive what these doomsayers are predicting no matter where they are. This life is temporary but then comes eternity. “I am the resurrection and the life. He that believes in me though he be dead yet shall he live.”Those who enter eternity without Jesus Christ will be lost forever. “Behold, I have told you before.” As stewards of the resources He has given us we should prepare for any situation we perceive as threatening. It’s also just plain common sense. (Lk.21:35, Jn.11:25, Mt.24:25)

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but, there have been earthquakes for billions of years, far longer than there has been any organized religion. Plus, over the last two millenia, since Jesus walked the Earth, there have been thousands and thousands of earthquakes, as well. After each one of those, He apparently didn't appear, did He?

Please trry to separate religion from science. Religion is based on faith without proof, Science is based on proof without faith. Mixing the two is like the ancient Teutonic society assigning lightning and thunder to their god Thor. Science now blames lightning and thunder on weather and climactic phenomenae.

One can be religious while still seing everyday occurrences as the work of natural forces rather than a vengeful God who, in your words, is Hell-bent on destroying the very people He created. Not every bad event that occurs is a direct threat from God unless you subscribe to the idea of a very malevolent deity...which I don't. So, how about putting down that bible and working to help better your fellow man; I bet your God and my God would appreciate the gesture.
