'River of blood' at hospital after shootings in Zawiya, Libya, witness says

[Updated at 11:49 a.m. ET, 6:49 p.m. local time] Forces loyal to Moammar Gadhafi attacked peaceful protesters in Zawiya with mortars and machine guns on Friday, in what a witness called an "indescribable" and deadly assault.

[Updated at 11:20 a.m. ET, 6:20 p.m. local time] Before reports of the killings emerged, a report on Libyan state TV said people in Zawiya, west of Tripoli, and "their public leadership have secured and took control over the city from the armed terrorist elements."

Zawiya was the site of at least 17 killings in one day last month when government forces attacked the city, doctors told CNN.

[Posted at 11:06 a.m. ET, 6:06 p.m. local time] At least 15 people have been killed and 200 more wounded in the Libyan city of Zawiya, an eyewitness told CNN.

Wounded people started arriving at the hospital Friday morning. Most of the injuries resulted from gunshots, and many of the injuries were to the head and chest.

The eyewitness said the hospital is running out of medical supplies.

"There is a river of blood here in the hospital. The situation is very bad," he said.

I suppose that the right-wing news media is going to blame this on the Qadaffi loyalists, too. I've never seen such one-sided reporting such as this. And who is Barack Obama to tell Mohammar Qadaffi to step down and who is he to decide Libya's future???

Dreadful thing, news media reporting the news, eh ruffnutt? Dunno why they didn't come up with something you'd enjoy more, like 'Young people drugged by al-Qaida shot themselves from a passing car, in order to demonstrate the righteousness of the Qaddhafi regime'. I'm sure you could have come up with something just as plausible. And the right-wing President is in cahoots with these dreadful reporters, too... makes you think, eh? (Well, ok, clearly nothing actually makes you think).

Gee, if the "right wing" is the faction protesting Qadaffi, then I suppose the "left wing" is actually in favor of him? That's news to me, as I'm a leftist myself.

    • Really?

First, it's Gadhafi, not Qadaffi...you left-wingers keep making cuts to educational spending...how's that working for ya? And, since when is the media full of right-wingers? We had a pro-Obama, leftist media until everyone jumped ship when he failed to make any positive changes.

You're quite mistaken,Reality?. It's the right-wing Republicans and "blue-dog" Democrats who are cutting our schools budgets, not the :left-wingers". Besides, haven't you noticed how one-sided the right-wing media handled the news out of Libya? They're always touting rebel victories and bashing Mohammar Qadaffi at the same time.

Any more reporting on Charlie sheen by news agency crosses the line onethics . you guys should at the very least advise parents not to be by the sides of children when listening. the man is not well aand children should know this and explained that this person like many other needs help, NO MORE REPOTS PLEASE

REPOTS? What are those..? I agree with you. I fear he talks like this in front of his kids, too.

I don't hold everyone to my standards. But I do try to give my kids a lifestyle to live up to. Not everything is gonna fly, because not everything in life flies.

I can't cover everything, and maybe at the fair someone a little nearby says something. My kids know not to say it, but they have to hear it. And since I don't push a god agenda on them, they are free to judge as they will...

How you are seen is how you represent yourself. People who, certainly in this forum, can't express themselves without swearing, can't express themselves and should be shooting for the occasional letter to the editor in some local rag.

I love this new wireless router:)

it is unethical for any news agency to report on Charles Sheen. He is not well and that should be it and leave the circus out of your reporting.

The Useless Nations (UN) is a useless organization, the US and the west aren't interested in the killings in Libya they are interested in the oil in Libya.

Why is it the medias fault in this situation. People are dying there should that be our concern as humans. And don't act like only Obama is concerned about oil. Unless you ride a bike everywhere you are also worried about the oil too!

It would take one man or one woman, within Gadhafi's inner circle, who I am sure does not agree at all or support his hedionistic actions. They could take it upon him or herself, to be Gadhafi's executioner. He has already been (tried?) and convicted in the World Court for unmentionable crimes against humanity. I really would prefer to see him captured and humiliated, in front of the World. Killing him would be too quick and an easy way out for him. He should be made to suffer the same tortures he has inflicted on HIS OWN PEOPLE!
I think everyone knows he has lost his grip on reality, so any way to get his Country to a place where the people would act reasonably and work together, would be a start. Wars kill thousands. More and more children of the World are left to fend for themselves where others are killed randomly. Some people have huge hearts whereas others stepped out of line when they were being given out.
May God Bless and take care of all the good people in the World.

And I would far rather see Barack Obama brought to trial for his crimes against the people of both Afghanistan and Pakistan along with David Camaron and Gordon Brown, especially with the use of those ungodly drones killing women and children needlessly!
