Mexican authorities deny reports that border state's female police chief fled

[Updated at 4:03 p.m. ET] A spokesman for the attorney general of Chihuahua State denied reports Friday that Marisol Valles Garcia - the 20-year-old woman who made headlines when she became the police chief of Praxedis, Mexico - has left the country for the United States.

Spokesman Arturo Sandoval was referring to comments in El Diario newspaper attributed to Jorge Gonzalez Nicolas, the attorney general for the northern district of Chihuahua.

"He did not give a press conference," Sandoval told CNN. "We negate reports that Nicolas said she fled to the United States."

[Posted at 2:51 p.m. ET] Marisol Valles Garcia, the 20-year-old woman who made headlines when she became the sheriff of Praxedis, Mexico, has left the country for the United States, the attorney general of Chihuahua State told reporters Friday.

Valles Garcia, a criminology student, was the only person who accepted the job of police chief in the city whose police officers had been abducted and killed.

She is reportedly seeking asylum in the United States after receiving death threats, CNN affiliate KVIA said, citing Mexican media reports.

Valles Garcia accepted the job in October. At the time, she said she was tired of everyone being afraid.

She recruited three other women to join the unarmed, 13-member force in the small municipality of 8,500 people, the government-run Notimex news agency reported. She said the force would employ non-violent tactics with the goals of winning back security in public spaces and fostering greater cooperation among neighbors so they can form watch committees.

"The weapons we have are principles and values, which are the best weapons for prevention," she told CNN en Español. "Our work will be pure prevention. We are not going to be doing anything else other than prevention."

- CNN's Arthur Brice and Nick Valencia contributed to this report.

Check your U.S. history better before you write something this stupid. Texas WON their independence from Mexico in 1836 and was admitted (annexed) to the U.S. in 1845. In the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 the largest land mass of the south was Ceded or surrended at the end of the Mexican/ American war. Not only was that area ceded but then the U.S. actually paid the Mexican government 15 million dollars plus 3.25 million in assumed claims for it. After that there was much debate and confusion as to the actual location of the border so in 1853 after a long debate the U.S. ratified purchasing the lower part of Arizona and New Mexico for 10 million dollars in what was known as the Gadsden Purchase, which was signed in Mexico City on Dec. 30, 1853.

So really they either lost or sold the areas that they now claim the U.S. stole.

Many people realize that curtailing the supply of a drugs without curbing the insane demand just causes an increase in price and criminal activity of the suppliers. But not to many seems to want to focus on why America has so many drug users. Every other ad on tv says drugs can be used to make one's life better. There are people walking around with 20 plus daily prescriptions to make them feel better. The people who use illegal drugs are the real culprits since they drive the demand. End the demand and the drug dealers are out of business. Alternatively, change the demand to something healthy that can be easily legalized and drug dealers will either go out of business or find a new market for their products. Either way, you can resolve the war on drugs if you focus on the demand side.

Boy Oh Boy! Are there a bunch of idiotic cowards here or WHAT?!? How about this tidbit: When Georgie was in office was when Calderon won the election by a Sliver. There were accusations of voter fraud by the progressive challenger (forgot his name) and the intern'l watchers of the election said that there was probably fraud. Right afterward, there were favorable contracts w/the U.S. WHAT?? You think for a second we didn't BUY that election for Calderon?? Get REAL!! And if the rich Repubs had ANY MORAL FIBER AT ALL, they could have & would have hired a mercenary force (yes, we have several companies of them {see Iraq & Afganistan}) to assist her! Just more proof that the rich in this country have their own agenda and don't give a FIG for ANYONE, including the TeaPartiers whom they created and support. Get your collective heads out of your butts and find out who's paying for your alliance! SHE IS A HERO! We need millions more JUST LIKE HER!! More integrity in one of her eyebrow hairs than in anyone in this country's governmental halls.

I'm going to stop posting well thought out opinions on this blog. Nobody ever comments on them anyways. If I spout off high school insults or left/right propaganda then it seems everyone would join the rabble. If many of you have working reproductive organs I would seriously consider having an operation to fix that, since you clearly lack any sort of intelligence. You really think you're capable of raising decent children?

@Sage: Change your name tool. There's nothing wise about you. Yes blame one party when the other party just had a majority and still holds the presidency. Lol sage.... Neuter yourself please, for the betterment of all humanity. Yes the dems have done so much more to stop the violence. If you can't see both parties are completely unwilling to do something meaningful then u don't deserve to be alive. Please off yourself.
