20-year-old Mexican police chief fired after failing to show up for work
Police chief Marisol Valles Garcia has been fired, an official in Praxedis G. Guerrero, Mexico, said Monday.
The 20-year-old criminology student made headlines when she took the reins of the police force in one of the most violent cities in the border state of Chihuahua. It's common for police officers in Praxedis to be abducted and killed.
"Marisol did not show up for work this morning as she was expected," town secretary Andres Morales said. "Since she was on a personal leave that expired today and did not reach out to us over the weekend, she now faces termination. It is now an official matter. We don't know anything about her whereabouts. Our attempts to get a hold of her during the weekend were unsuccessful."
Praxedis Mayor Jose Luis Guerrero told CNN last week that Valles Garcia was on personal leave because her 8-month-old baby was sick. He said she was expected back at work Monday.
"Marisol, in fact, still works here and she's still getting paid. She comes back on Monday," he said.
Praxedis is located about 35 miles southeast of Ciudad Juarez, one of the bloodiest cities in world.

Why is this in the news? people get fired everyday
She was an elected official, and she ran unopposed, so why are people complaining about her age and lack of experience? If the citizens of the town believed she was either qualified for the position or were too afraid to oppose her in the election, then what right do people have to criticize her for that? I am in law enforcement and it's not an easy job to perform here in the US, let alone in Mexico. The only way to get rid of the drug cartels is if the US citizens stop funding them. Everyone complains about how Mexicans are destroying American life by being on welfare and jumping the border and by the violence of the cartels. If we as Americans would stop fueling the cartels by purchasing drugs, then the biggest part of the equation is solved. Mexicans might be able to feel safe and earn a living in their country. That being said, how many people in general, not just Mexicans, abuse the welfare system and unemployment. Either way, citizen or not, they are not paying taxes, other than sales tax, so they are living for free as well. And for the other people complaining about them coming into this country illegally, how many of your ancestors came here and had to take tests or even speak the English language? Most Americans came over on a boat and didn't even have to sign a ledger, other than the ships log, when they reached land. With the education of the Mexican citizens, they barely learn their own history, let alone having to learn another country's. How do you expect them to take classes and support their family, or even afford the classes and citizenship tests
Illegal means the same in English as it does in Spanish. Being in a country illegally is AGAINST THE LAW. Don't condone criminal activity
I am not condoning criminal activity. What I am saying is that most American ancestors came here without the need for a test and a long citizenship process. If it wasn't for those lax guidelines, America would not be the powerhouse it is today. The statue of liberty shouldn't say give me your tired, huddled masses etc. The government should change it to, give me your wealthy, give me your intelligent citizens, give me the best your society has to offer. The mass exodus from Mexico are the citizens that America used to take without questions asked. It was easier to accept these people when they blended in with the majority of American citizens. Yes, there are freeloading people that live off welfare and the government, but they are of all races and ethnicities. I am a law enforcement officer, I would never condone criminal activity, the same as I would never reject helping another human being that is in mortal danger. What I am saying is that sometimes laws need amended and this is one of those laws.

The town she was to work in is under seige by the drug cartels. this little lady took a Job no one else would (Including me) then the cartels make her an offer one can't refuse so she Booked (smart move)and you have imbeciles on this thread that have nothing to but bullS@#t to say. They posted a story about this young lady a month ago in CNN Espanol. She was abducted by drug lords in her own home. They mentioned that up to ten pick up trucks and SUVs took her from her home in midday light. They even posted a picture of her blindfolded.

I remember when she started this position. Wonder if this is their way of covering up that she has been killed by drug lords? I mean, it looks bad enough that the Mayor allowed her to even take the position that ALL previous men have been killed in. It looks way better if she is at fault somehow, like no call no show for work. It may cause a real stir somewhere if we thought for one minute that the young woman was killed by drug lords. Wouldn't we want someone held accountable for placing her in such a dangerous place? So yeah, better to say she blew work off and has been fired!
