20-year-old Mexican police chief fired after failing to show up for work
Police chief Marisol Valles Garcia has been fired, an official in Praxedis G. Guerrero, Mexico, said Monday.
The 20-year-old criminology student made headlines when she took the reins of the police force in one of the most violent cities in the border state of Chihuahua. It's common for police officers in Praxedis to be abducted and killed.
"Marisol did not show up for work this morning as she was expected," town secretary Andres Morales said. "Since she was on a personal leave that expired today and did not reach out to us over the weekend, she now faces termination. It is now an official matter. We don't know anything about her whereabouts. Our attempts to get a hold of her during the weekend were unsuccessful."
Praxedis Mayor Jose Luis Guerrero told CNN last week that Valles Garcia was on personal leave because her 8-month-old baby was sick. He said she was expected back at work Monday.
"Marisol, in fact, still works here and she's still getting paid. She comes back on Monday," he said.
Praxedis is located about 35 miles southeast of Ciudad Juarez, one of the bloodiest cities in world.

Gee, I wonder why there are so many problems within the Criminal Justice system in Mexico. I mean you have a 20 year old with a Criminal Justice Degree.... sounds like someone I would want running a police dept. since that is all you need for one of the toughest areas in Mexico. Someone with no experience as a police officer or someone who has no experience running....well, anything.
To their rational I could become President of Mexico and be a GOD!
What part of "It's common for police officers in Praxedis to be abducted and killed" did you miss??? I'll bet you dollars to donuts there wasn't a mad rush to apply for the job of police chief there, so they hired who they could get who had any sort of credentials at all.
I doubt someone who doesn't know the difference between "rational" and "rationale" would ever be considered a god anywhere.

So she didn't show up and they fire her? Because people were stumbling over themselves to get that job, I'm sure. And I certainly hope they checked on her to see if she was okay before simply firing her.
Since when is someone expect to contact work when they are still on leave, and since when do people in her position get fired to quickly without an inquiry?
I think he's just firing her because he doesn't want to see her get her head chopped off, if she isn't dead already.
