U.S. set to send disaster relief teams to Libya

The United States will soon be sending disaster relief teams into eastern Libya, the WH National Security Adviser Thomas Donilon said.

The teams' activities should not be viewed as military operations, Donilon said.

"It can no way shape or form be seen as military intervention," Donilon said. The teams will assess that humanitarian aid is being delivered. "This is purely humanitarian to better assist in a humanitarian way the people of Libya."

If true, this a really pathetic but predictable response from our "no action" President. What is needed is for NATO to immediately approve a "no fly zone" (Russia said it would veto a resolution in the UN to set up a no fly zone, so no point in going to the UN). Then use our fleet to attack Libya's six airfields in western Libya with cruise missiles and take out their runways and fixed wing aircraft. Also, attack their SAM sites (SA-6) with crusie missiles. Then attack their helicopters on the ground with cruise missiles or other stand off weapons so we don't lose any pilots. Patrol the skies after that with armed and unmanned drones that are quite effective against vehicles with their Hellfire missiles. Then once you have control of the air just like in Afghanistan introduce NATO Special Forces teams to work with and train the rebels in the east to use modeern weapons. And furnish a limited number of plastic mines, shoulder fired anti-aircraft missiles (Stingers) and anti-tank weapons (Milan is good) and train up the rebels and let them do the fighting. Putting helpess people into an active combat zone is just asking for a bunch of US citizens to be captured and to give Presdient Obama and Secretary of State Clinton more excuses to wring their hands, talk a lot and and do nothing effective while more helpless civilians continue to die in eastern Libya.

I'm so sick of people in other countries that needs are help. Why can't we help our people out that need or help here. We are in so much debt that we can't help ourselves at all. Our president should look at what we need &no one else. The united states is ass backwords since we had obama in there for president.

Funny how lots on here say: We need to think of OUR country first!..and the president is our problem...BUT everytime President Obama try's and help the middle class or the poor he is seen as a socialist by The Repubs. Trust me Pres. Obama want's nothing else but to help us Americans the only thing in his way is the Republicans!!!

I think it is ok for US to help. One of the reasons this country is great today is because of their wilingness to help.

I bet this "humanitarian aid" will come packing guns. If we really wanted to help, we would give the Red Cross money to go help. Instead, this will be a disguised military operation.

I agree- disaster relief = guns and ammo. The rebels need it right now (and I mean right now!). You know, I keep hearing from the CNN's and others about how they are thinking of cratering the runways with piloted aircraft and the hand wringing of 'oh,how would we get the pilots back?, etc...and taking out their command and control sites, etc... Hey folks, no need for our pilots (or NATO pilots) to fly over there – did they forget about the very accurate cruise missles (very cheap comparatively). Hell, we could pinpoint those damn sites and runways and whatever else we wanted with GPS – why even think about sending pilots over the airspace? Makes no sense to me.

... and lose our "moral authority" in the process. This is not the "John Wayne" age, but the digital age. The world has no stomach for "cowboys" and quite frankly is pretty sick of violent conflict, whatever the reason. If we have truly evolved past apes, there have to be other ways to resolve conflict that don't include killing and dismemberment. Take the weapons away and force the parties toward peace and compromise. Way too simple? I don't think so.

Another point. In the face of an armed uprising, how do you think our own government would respond? Et tu? Ruby Ridge, Waco, etc.? You already know the answer. Think again.

Poor Bootu can't even count (last I heard Obama has been in office 2 years, not 4, but maybe Bootu slept through that math class on rounding error). And does Mr Bootu really not know that Presidents don't in general take on pirates mano-o-mano? Why does he think we spend billions on the military for, a good parade here and there? No, your are wrong Mr Bootu, Obama ordered the miitary to take on the pirates as he was supposed to do. Oh, and by the way, the action really did not occur in the Gulf, but along the coast of East Africa. (I am lead to believe that geography wasn't one of your strong subjects either.). Obama worst President ever, give me a break. Obviously too much beer drinking while watching Fix News.

Now HOW do you arrive at that conclusion. This Marxists president wants nothing but to follow the dictates of George Soros. That's it. Soros is a pimp and O is a ho.

We have inner cities in the U.S that look like war zones and people in need of food clothing and shelter so NO MORE FOREIGN AID until our own house is cleaned up. Our country is broke and the working people are being asked to make concessions on salary, health care, retirement etc. and our govt. continues to give our tax dollars to foreigners. We need to STOP THE INSANITY!

I agree with sending disaster relief teams to Libya...it is the humane thing to do in my opinion...these people need help. On the other hand, I would, also, agree with sending disaster relief teams to WI to help the american workers whose rights are being taken away by republicans/teabags and a dictator nanmed Walker.

Sending U.S. "Disaster Relief Teams " into Libya is a bold strategy! When the "Teams" are attacked and/or receive fatal losses, Obama will have his justification to send in the U.S. Marines.
