NY police tight-lipped about officer's shooting

Police in New York are expected to release more information Sunday about the shooting death of a Nassau County officer that they are calling accidental.

The officer was shot about 8 p.m. ET while responding to a call of a suspicious person walking with weapons in Long Island's Massapequa Park, the Nassau County Police said.

The department did not release any other details about the shooting, other than to say the officer was part of the special operations bureau, which carries out high-risk search warrant executions and anti-gang operations.

Being a Law Enforcement Officer today is similar to playing "Russian Roulette", as he/she goes to work he/she is gambling their lives that they will survive their shift and return home. I find it hard to believe that some of these comments are so inane. Many years ago I considered going into law enforcement but today I would not even dream about it. The situation is much different as the risk factor of some "Wacko" killing the LEO because he was stopped for a tail light being out very high. I do have the utmost respect for the men and women who are brave enough to be out there to protect us (Even those of you who feel you have to impress yourselves by calling them derogatory names.) at the risk of their own lives.
I'm not one to comment often on these comment list, but PLEASE give these people the credit and respect they deserve.

Approx two yrs ago near Lakeland Florida, White Officer stopped a Black Man for minor traffic violation. He reports this Black Motorist fired a weapon & killed his backup white officer & his dog and stated this black man ran into the woods. The next morning a lynch mob of officers found this black man and put hundreds of bullets into him killing him instantly. Months later the state & Police Dept gave this Black Man's Momma approx $2 million Dollars. WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE. THE WHITE OFFICE WAS HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH THE OTHER OFFICER'S WIFE. GET MY DRIFT

This story broke but the Lakeland Police still have not issued a statement telling the world that this White Officer actually murdered his fellow officer & used this Black Motorist as a Killer. The Police says this is still under investigation. HAVE ANY OF U EVER HEARD OF A BLACK MAN KILLING A POLICE OFFICER AND HIS MOTHER GETS MILLIONS. IF ANY OF U READERS HAVE, I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THIS

After the suspect was shot about 8:20 p.m. ET, a Nassau County cop stepped inside the home.

"It was friendly fire," a source told the Daily News.

Crews rushed the officer to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m.

Ohh there's a disease out here and it's infectious. Swine Flu is dangerous to any American citizen. The police are the major carriers of this disease and feel free to unleash it onto others. Not cool. The police can pig out.....

A great example of how careless police can be with firearms. This YouTube video shows a cop shoot himself in the foot in front of school kids.

One of the biggest problems we face as a nation is the inability for our political parties to work together. Extremism on both sides of the aisle is to blame for this. You are a closed-minded opinion on pretty much anything is worthless.

For those who think cops are some great group, I invite you to read Everyday in this Country there is a whole page of cops getting busted. And these are not slight crimes either. And these are just the ones who got caught ! In my opinion law enforcement draws the bottom of the gene pool. This cop that was shot is just another welfare recipient off the backs of the working people. File some open records requests in your town for unsolved crimes, unserved felony warrants, and crimes that roll off the books every year due to the statute of limitations. Then ride around and see speed traps and seat belt traps setup everywhere. Policing for profit is the name of the game. And if you still buy into the myth that these pukes "put their life on the line" go to the Department of Labor and see that the police only have a slightly more dangerous job than the typical office worker. Loggers, Fishermen, Construction workers, Miners, and Truck Drivers risk way more than any dumb cop everyday.

Two people are dead and that is very sad. I live in Massapequa Park and though I can see why the "unknown" details of what happened can cause a lot of theories maybe some can be explained. This is a small suburban town that had virtually 0% crime. But in recent years there has been some incidents with drugs and violence with young people especially. I think what happened last night was sort of a collision of the old Massapequa Park vs. the reality of today. If you read the reports you will see that a 71 year old woman saw a man with a knife and actually followed him while calling police – that IS the way we roll here. However a special ops officer in the area is more of the police trying to address the recent reality. It must have been chaos and a totally unexpected, uncharacteristic scene. It is a shame. My heart does go out to the families of the deceased and the officer who fired the fatal shot to the under cover officer.
