WWI German U-boat found sunk off Netherlands

Dutch researchers found the wreck of a World War I German submarine in 2009 but kept the discovery secret until this week, Radio Netherlands Worldwide reported.

The crew of the research ship HNLMS Snellius hoped they'd found a Dutch submarine that disappeared in 1940, but the vessel turned out to be much older. A brass plate indicated the sub was the German U-106, which sank during World War I, the radio report said.

The announcement of the discovery was delayed while German officials confirmed the sub's identity and sought out relatives of crew members, according to the radio report.

A Dutch navy spokesman told Radio Netherlands the U-boat would not be raised but would be designated a war memorial.

All of you people make me sick. This article is about a historic find and the brave souls who died fighting for their country. You all have turned it into a mockery! Republican or democrat, conservative or liberal...who really cares who you all are? Really? It makes no reference to this. May those soldiers rest in peace.

Hey dummy, they weren't soldiers. They were on a BOAT. They were mariners or seamen.

  5. Huh?

So.. let me get this straight. A story about the discovery about a 94 yr old sunken german sub has kicked off a discussion (?) about American politics and whether Fox news is a valid source? I could see some imperialists out there wondering what happened to the good ole days but Really?

For a minute I thought you typed "drunken" German sub.

Probably true either way. Maybe it was the same guy piloting this U-Boat that crached the Exxon Valdez.

From the looks of the photo it appears they died when their ship fell off the edge of the earth?

They should raise it and sell it to the Columbians to use for smuggling drugs to moronic Americans to shove up their noses...

Gotta hand it to those sailors. A WWI-era U-boat was not a fun place to be and many of them ended up on the bottom of the ocean.

Try calling a sailor a soldier or a Marine a soldier OR a sailor.

The branches of the service all have distinct designations for the members:

      Air Force are airmen
      Marines are Marines
      Navy are sailors
      Army is soldiers

What I want to know is what does Sarah Palin have to say about this? 😉
Seriously, it is cool that they found the sub. I would assume that it is entirely flooded by now but it would be interesting to know what it's overall condition is.
