WWI German U-boat found sunk off Netherlands

Dutch researchers found the wreck of a World War I German submarine in 2009 but kept the discovery secret until this week, Radio Netherlands Worldwide reported.

The crew of the research ship HNLMS Snellius hoped they'd found a Dutch submarine that disappeared in 1940, but the vessel turned out to be much older. A brass plate indicated the sub was the German U-106, which sank during World War I, the radio report said.

The announcement of the discovery was delayed while German officials confirmed the sub's identity and sought out relatives of crew members, according to the radio report.

A Dutch navy spokesman told Radio Netherlands the U-boat would not be raised but would be designated a war memorial.

What is there to be surprised that the masses do not know anything about history. They were even referencing the wrong movie, not U-572, it was U-571. Psst, Bon Jovi was not on the boarding party.

    What an awewome find though.

You're kidding, right? The Nazis were in World War II; this sub is a WWI model.

it's going to be designated a war memorial? Thats nice. They were the agressors and they lost! What is there to memorialize? This is as stupid as the nitwits from Mississippi or whichever state they're in, that want to have a license plate glorifying the confederate general that was a member of the KKK.

Chumlee you have to check with some history books your facts first.
A Serbian assassinated the Austrian Archduke and his consort.
      Austria declared war on Serbia.
Russia immediately declared war on Austria, as it had a pact with Serbia.
Austria called on the Kaiser, as an ally, to stand by Austria and against Russia
(The czar and the Kaiser were cousins, grandsons of Queen Victoria).
Since Russia had a convenient pact with France and England, these two nations
jumped into the fray. Poor Belgium got overrun by the Kaiser's troops on the way to Paris.
Now everybody jumped into the war, which ended with an armistice on French soil in Nov. 1918.
Now, Chumlee, can you pin point exactly who the aggressors were????
I thought so, – all European nations were itching to have a go at each other, but no alpha-dog emerged!!

It was Austria and their German allies.

Civilized people would have sent an hit team to kill the assasin and maybe a retalitory kill. Starting a world war over one man's death certainly qualifies as aggression to me.

      Your turn.
