U.N. Security Council approves no-fly zone over Libya

The U.N. Security Council on Thursday voted to approve a no-fly zone extending over all of Libya to try to halt Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's mounting attacks against rebel positions.

The resolution states  that "all necessary means" can be used to enforce the no-fly zone. Flights to provide humanitarian aid, medicine or for evacuations are exempt.

The vote was 10 for, none against and five abstentions.

What is the use of spending 300 million dollars a day to enforce a no fly zone? The Muslim middle east has fought wars for centuries only to replace one tyrant with another.

I am disturbed over comments that Obama has been timid and unleaderlike about Libya. We as a nation have been out trying to fix the rest of the world meanwhile we have a country whose infrastructure is collapsing (I live in Detroit–the finest example of that). Who desiignated us as thecaretaker and police of the world? Before you decide you can take care of the rest of the world you need to start at home-spending some of those defense dollars on education and childcare in our ghettos. We as a nation are involved in two wars financed on borrowed money–who are we to think we should lead a war in a third country-let's let France or Britain take this one on. .
