The U.N. Security Council on Thursday voted to approve a no-fly zone extending over all of Libya to try to halt Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's mounting attacks against rebel positions.
The resolution states that "all necessary means" can be used to enforce the no-fly zone. Flights to provide humanitarian aid, medicine or for evacuations are exempt.
The vote was 10 for, none against and five abstentions.

Wow!!! Such a prompt response now that Mo doesn't need his planes anymore. Watch Russia support his planes if they do fly. Then what? More golf?
It's about time the U.N. made a decision. Let's just hope they don't let the French in charge of the mission. We all know how they performed in Bosnia. I remember going in after them and cleaning up.
All I care about is what will happen to Brother Leader's hot female bodyguards.
They are waiting for him at Berlusconi's private mansion. There's gonna be a giant Bunga Bunga party once he retakes Benghazi.
This probably comes too late to truly help the rebel forces. They appear to be all but defeated. This should have come a month ago when it may have done some good.
These folks aren't our "friends". They celebrated 9/11 and gave a heros welcome to Lockerbie guy. We (us) gains nothing by getting rid of the "devil we know". We cannot get into a 3rd war let alone another Civil war! These things have to be aloud to play out and then everyone rushes in to pick up the pieces and make friends with the winners
BBC reporting that England and France with Arab assistance will begin operations within a 'matter of hours'. Looks like the Eurofighter Typhoon EF2000 and Dassault Rafael will be getting their first tastes of air combat. Gadaffi's air force no match for these latest generation air superiority warplanes.
The UN should also impose no-fly zone over Bahrain too where lots of innocents been killed and injured..
... and the US airforce there gets grounded? That'll be the day.
This is good news, now we need to shoot missiles at the tanks on the ground.
WOw! That will make a huge difference now that the rebels are on the run. Way to go U.N.! Taking action that really matters well after the fact.
This will give the rebels renewed vigor. Today they attacked Gadaffi's forces with tanks and artillary. So obviously there are some military units who have joined rebel forces. When they see Gadaffi's planes being shot down it will bolster their enthusiasm.
A democratic measure by a democratic body for a democratic world
Moammar: It will soon be brought home to you by our carrier off your coast that we in the U.S. have not forgotten either your murder of our soldiers at the LaBelle in Germany nor your murder of our citzens on the Pan Am flight downed over our UK ally. Turn around and kiss it goodbye while you still have a chance!
Finally, now my fellow countrymen and women can do what they have wanted to do for a while. Go Britain. Stated today could have planes in the air tonight over Libiya............. Godspeed.
well I hope all neccesary means the destruction of ghaddafis army on the ground. The only way to save the libyan people from his terrorism and extermination!!!
Now that there are going for Ghaddafi, lets do the same thing in other countries like Cuba, North Korea, China, Russia and many more
... don't forget the US!
Take the cost from oil sales. Donald Trump is correct when he says the free use of our military should end.
So far there's no sign that the US will be in any way involved. By your logic, Iraq should charge the US fees for some 50,000 troops spending vacations in the country - say, at $120 per day and person among friends?
