Four Navy officers get letters of censure over lewd video

The secretary of the Navy has issued letters of censure to Capt. Owen Honors and three other officers involved in the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise lewd video scandal, Navy spokesman Capt. Danny Hernandez said.

The letters effectively end the officers careers, as they will prevent promotion. The letters cannot be appealed.

Honors created the videos and was second-in-command on the Enterprise at the time. Others receiving censure were his successor, Capt. John Dixon, and former Enterprise commanders Rear Adm. Larry Rice and Rear Adm. Ron Horton.

He didn't deserve it, for you arrogant people who are judging him, you're completely blowing it out of proportion. He did it for laughs, and it is hilarious. It's stupid now that we have to cut back our humor for "politically correct" things.

Conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman. Read about it and figure out why officers are held to a higher standard.

I think the fragile little delicate flowers of the world who cannot handle crude humor should avoid the Armed Forces. Morbid & crude humor has been used by military, police, fire & EMS for as long as they have existed as a means of blowing off steam and processing the horrors they live through. If this kind of thing makes you run to your bunk and cry your eyes out then you need to think about a job in academia or some other public service that perhaps does not involve fighting & dying for your country.

I agree. Also, someone tattle-tailed on him. The videos were out for a while.

The military is being systematically emasculated going back to the Clinton era. The enemy within has to soften us up for the day of revolution.

Good, boot them out. I couldn't care less about the content. They could have cross dressed as aborigines eating watermelons and fried chicken for all I care. It's the fact they have such a high level of stupidity as to knowingly film it, then release it. If these guys aren't savvy enough to understand the impact of social media as are Muslims who using Facebook to bring down entire regimes, let them fry chicken and KFC. I sure as heck wouldn't want to serve under anyone so stoopid.

Regardless of the content of the video, a Naval Officer should hold himself to a bit of a higher standard than some "girls gone wild" crap like this. Regardless of the investment in the training of the officers, the outcome is justified. That man is basically a walking symbol of the US military, and his actions cheapen the sacrifices his brothers and sisters made.

This is incredibly sad. I know a LOT of people that were on board during the time these videos were made/viewed by the crew. Not one I spoke with was offended by them. They were made to entertain the crew during a deployment. All those on here condemning these officers have never spent time deployed on a US Warship. There is a LOT of tedium involved. The Navy is losing 4 very good officers because of the media blowing it WAY out of usual.

And yes, I am active duty Navy.

As soon as the US military quits worrying about being politically correct they will once again become an effective fighting force. Right now they're too hampered with "rules" to take care of business like they need to. Who gives a shlt if they show a lewd video – if the sailors haven't seen a dlck or pu$$y by now then it's about time they did. These officers gave the majority of their lives to their country – this is a shltty way to treat them.

What is this video supposed to be about? Is it the one where the dirt was in the bucket and that guy said that he didn't want to throw out all that good dirt? Because that one was weird. Or was it the one where Charleff and Charlie were buying those wave runners?

Never been in the service. But when you look at the real responsibilities these senior officers carry, it's clear that they are valuable and that they embarrased the Navy. But that's all they did–showed bad personal judgement. No sailor, enlisted or officer, ought to have his training, experience and whole career trashed just for creating an embarrassment. Seems to me that the Navy could have done a better job letting the punishment actually fit the crime.

  12. Hey Mr.Secretary

The Secretary did not go far enough with the punishment of these men. He should have immediately stripped the officer of his rank as well as any of his cohorts! Anything less is not acceptable when you are dealing with this kind of situation. If it only prevents them from securing a promotion then they can still stay in the Navy technically, so what's the punitive side to this? None! Whatever the Secretary does sets an example of how serious the Navy really is in taking action on these men. And this, to many, shows only a slap on the wrist, so it's certainly not good enough.

Obviously you have never spent any time in the military. A lot more lewd things go on in the military than this. Just like in the civilian world. This is about one person who needed some attention and got it. It's not all that serious, nobody was hurt in this situation. This was a officer trying to connect with his people. Stand around the water cooler at your job and see what's said. I'm sure CAPT Honors knows of the types of conversations that went on. I spent years in the military and have heard them all. Officer, enlisted or civilian. We are all human and want to reach out. I'm sure the higher ups knew all that was going on. This is what happens when the media gets their hands on anything. It's blown up way to big.

Wow... Someone makes a video that offends a few over-sensitive people, so the punishment is to end careers. Just this week, some idiot girl at UCLA makes a video that mocks Asians, and people want her expelled.

People are stupid. I wish all humans quit breeding.
