Obama lays out what he calls non-negotiable terms for Libya

President Barack Obama said Friday that "left unchecked, we have every reason to believe Gadhafi (will) commit atrocities against his own people" and the surrounding region could be destabilized.

"The democratic values that we stand for would be overrun" and the "words of the international community would be rendered hollow," the president said.

The focus of the United Nations is on protecting innocent civilians and holding Moammar Gadhafi accountable, Obama said.

A cease-fire must be implemented immediately, and Gadhafi's troops must be pulled back from several cities, he said.  Power and water must be restored to those cities, he declared.

"These terms are not negotiable," Obama said.

If Gadhafi doesn't comply, the U.N. resolution will be imposed through military action. The United States will work as part of an international coalition, Obama said, but American troops will not be deployed in Libya.

Everyone here making this a Dem Repub issue you don't have a clue as to how the world works. For those of you still stuck in the right left paradigm you need to wake up. Globalists run our world. Regardless of which puppet president they put in they all have the same agenda world domination it's called The Project for the New American Century. Corporations and Shadow government is running affairs and have been for years.

The Project for the New American Century has been their road map since going into Korea in the 50's. The last noble war that we as Americans fought was World War II to stop the spead of Nazism.

Now it just seems like America has carried that idea throughout the world setting up bases in every corner of the globe in the name of humanitarian democracy.

I didn't forget, and that was one incident forty years ago. Hardly compares to the organized slaughter Gadhafi is perpetuating, wouldn't you say?

What is the difference between the two parties again? This sounds like George Bush to me.
Wake up folks we do not have representative government of the people. This is the very same type of Government (Plutocracy) the people of these Mid eastern countries are fighting against.

@CalgarySandy Funny you should talk about the U.S. leading and the rest following, b/c I'm pretty sure CANADA was the first to say they were sending jets to enforce the no fly zone. Not to mention FRANCE was the country that spearheaded this arrangement. Don't single the U.S. out on this. If u are representing Canada (preimptive apology if not) you should know this.

If the intent is to protect democracy for the Libyian citizens why are we not removing the Saudi government forces from Behrain. The Behrain govenment leadership is killing their citizens with the invited Saudi government armed forces. And Yemen, why are we not demanding that government allow democracy for the Yemen people? Oh ya, we love and support those dictatorial leaderships...and our access to their oil. But Quadarffi has been a US oil seller so we need tofind another way to get that countries oil. Is it now clear why most citizens of arab countries hate the United States?

Exactly.... This explains the real intentions of going into Libya. They want the resources they could care less about the Libyan people or Quadarffi. I have seen numerous videos of Bahrainian people getting gunned down by their government in police cars along with unarmed protesters getting shot point blank. I have yet to see a video a Quadarffi killing anyone. Go to You Tube and Type in – Bahrain Police Gunning Down The People by Drive By Shootings – This video will show you what is going on. It is amazing they are killing their people via drive by shootings then taking off.

Checkout RT an online media source these guys get to the real understanding of what is going on. All US media is filtered to feed into the war agenda so that people accept this as being the right thing to do. It's not it is the wrong thing to do and yet more innocent people will be in the cross fire in Libya. All US media pump wars for ratings and the globalist agenda. Wake up and you'll understand.

You guys really know what's up in the world, dontcha.....

Oh well, good guys are good until the shadow guys deem them bad....Of course, G-Man has always been a bad guy but suddenly, he needs to be ousted? Why not years ago? Hmmm, perhaps it didn't suit the shadow guys game plan, but now it does? Why?

Save your Hitler scenarios for your friends since Libya is not currently invading Poland..

I'm sure all you guys out here know why, or at least you all claim to know....something...

    What do we know?

Every war (police action) since WW2 started out just like this...What surprises me is how many folks out here are ready to go to war..Oh wait, not you, you who sits here writing comments but the folks IN the military who will once again be asked by .......

A Nobel PEACE Prize winner, (everyone forgets that one)

to crank it up once more....Sure, no troops now because the UN will be doing it all? Get real, that means the USA. But we like war over here, it's what the USA does, that and Hollywood, our two main exports...It's pathetic regardless of your stance...

Feel free to blast me and give out a good battle cry from your couch....
    War sucks...

      Hello Leigh,

Sitting here on my couch thinking of the similarities between Reagan's offensive and Obama's (or the UN's) offensive. This time however, we have better sattelites and drones that would not risk human lives. It's $ instead of life.

This Barack Obama now has more blood on his hands than all the Chicago Mafia members put together past and present. He has no moral principles at all and that makes him a sociopath unfit to be President!!!

I'm just glad my son's enlistment ends in a couple of months and he's had his 2 deployments. If that makes me selfish, that's TOO BAD-4 of his friends came home from Afghanistan in boxes. Maybe President Obama means it about no troops on the ground in Libya-I really hope it works out that way and I believe he does too-but I doubt it can be avoided.

Well if we left world affairs to some of these posters we would all be in a world of hurt. Lots of political gibberish, misinformation and amateur comedy writing. "Libya" and "Gadhafi" must have been spelled wrong a hundred times! Mr. President take your time! If war is inevitable at least let's get it right.

Obama is making his "LIBYA" speech just for show! In reality, he doesnt give a damn about Libya or its people! Another closer to what society is waiting and watching to unfold is July 4th holiday. Americans as a hole are pretty fed up!
