50 people in 50 days: Former child actor disappears

Editor's note: Nancy Grace's new show on HLN, "Nancy Grace: America's Missing," is dedicated to finding 50 people in 50 days. As part of the effort, which relies heavily on audience participation, CNN.com's news blog This Just In will feature the stories of the missing.

This is the 47th case, and it will be shown Tuesday at 9 p.m. on HLN.

Former child actor Joseph "Joe" Pichler was 18 when he disappeared from his hometown of Bremerton, Washington, more than five years ago.

Friends last saw him in the early morning of January 5, 2006, in Pichler's apartment, where he had been playing cards. After several people were unable to reach him in the coming days, they reported him missing. His vehicle subsequently was found abandoned behind a Bremerton restaurant four days after he was last seen, according to his family.

His family still doesn’t know what happened to him.

Pichler worked as a child actor in local commercials before moving to Los Angeles in the mid-90s. He appeared in movies such as "The Fan," "Varsity Blues" and "Children on Their Birthdays" before moving back to Bremerton, where he graduated high school. He looked forward to moving back to California to resume acting, his family said.

Watch Nancy Grace Monday through Sunday starting at 8 p.m. ET on HLN. For the latest from Nancy Grace click here.

You left out a coupla things... she wants to be JUDGE and JURY for the nation. She wants to play God. If her show finds someone then she will perceive herself as bringing people back from the dead. Sorry that got carried away.... I was too deep in her head for a second.

i love when the judge in atlanta was murdered ... he happened to be a mentor or something to her ... and she's on the phone with cnn crying and wailing and just beside herself ... then they show a commercial for her show and it has the sound of a pump shotgun and the voiceover is 'locked and loaded' ...

yeah ... real sensitive gal that nancy ... anyone who has that kind of intro to her show should be threatened with the shotgun ... maybe they wouldn't think the 'ad dept' did a great job on their intro then

I'm not a fan of Nancy, but one would be a fool to say that she exploits death and misery. I've never heard of this kid being missing had it not been for this article. Anyway someone can bring awareness of a missing person, I would be all ears.

Does this biotch actually find anyone? Or is it all a ploy for tv ratings? Sad that she uses the misery of others to profit.

Yes, she has led to the capture of criminals and helped find many children that have been kidnapped. Search the web for evidence and you WILL find it.

Yeah, she uses the misery of others the same way John Walsh does on America's Most Wanted. Geeze, someone devotes their life to helping others and putting criminals behind bars and they get people like you making snide, uninformed, and downright ignorant remarks. You would be the first person running to her for help if God forbid, something happened to one of your loved ones. Team Nancy!

While I express admiration for CNN to locate 50 missing young people in 50 days, I must say that Nancy Grace annoys me to the point that I refuse any more to watch or read her material. I think she is a poor journalist and makes outlandish bullying comments to professionals whom she interviews. She would be a better fit on Fox News. Her attempts to get the to the bottom line of a story or a lead border more on sensationalism than investigative journalism.

Nancy Grace is not a journalist, she's an ambulance chasing, blow hard attorney – and that's why you hate her.

Can anyone actually sit through a Nancy Grace torture session? My favorite is when she would go from vicious attack dog to loving mother, back to attack dog. She's an automatic "switch the channel" now.

Most United States citizens cant speak English correctly. And 95 percent dont know grammer.

The question should be, do you speak English? And if so, the Queen's English or your suburban, nouveux middle class form of the language once known as English?
