50 people in 50 days: Former child actor disappears

Editor's note: Nancy Grace's new show on HLN, "Nancy Grace: America's Missing," is dedicated to finding 50 people in 50 days. As part of the effort, which relies heavily on audience participation, CNN.com's news blog This Just In will feature the stories of the missing.

This is the 47th case, and it will be shown Tuesday at 9 p.m. on HLN.

Former child actor Joseph "Joe" Pichler was 18 when he disappeared from his hometown of Bremerton, Washington, more than five years ago.

Friends last saw him in the early morning of January 5, 2006, in Pichler's apartment, where he had been playing cards. After several people were unable to reach him in the coming days, they reported him missing. His vehicle subsequently was found abandoned behind a Bremerton restaurant four days after he was last seen, according to his family.

His family still doesn’t know what happened to him.

Pichler worked as a child actor in local commercials before moving to Los Angeles in the mid-90s. He appeared in movies such as "The Fan," "Varsity Blues" and "Children on Their Birthdays" before moving back to Bremerton, where he graduated high school. He looked forward to moving back to California to resume acting, his family said.

Watch Nancy Grace Monday through Sunday starting at 8 p.m. ET on HLN. For the latest from Nancy Grace click here.

Natalee Holloway is not really dead. She has been staying with Nancy Grace and whenever she doesn't have enough material for a show she starts talking about "New evidence in the Natalee Holloway case".

The Bremerton police dept refused a $5000 reward to help find Joe Pichler. The agency that offered the reward were so shocked they notified the family. Apparently, you can't offer a reward without authorization from the police dept. When the family asked the police dept why, the police dept said it wont help in this case.

Another clue in Joe Pichler's disappearance. Several friends have conflicting stories about Joe's disappearance. One friend admitted to the family that she removed drugs from Joe's car before the police found it, so as not to embarrass the family. But no one knew where the car was except those related to Joe's disappearance nor did they have a key. Another friend said a poem found in the car was a suicide note. The note/poem gave all Joe's possessions to a girl. Later the guy admitted he wrote it himself and it was only a poem. He waited 5 months to admit he wrote it himself. This guy is now living with the girl that the note/poem gave all Joe's worldly possessions to.

Another clue to Joe Pichler's disappearance, Joe's Magic The Gathering Cards were stolen, but the Bremerton police refused to put this theft in there police report. Two of the cards were rare black lotus cards worth over $10000 each. The family still has the empty binders that had been flung all over Joe's bedroom the night he disappeared.

Joe Pichler's disappearance, two of Joe's friends that were at his house that night had a conversation on myspace before that night. The two girls said they were worried about going to Joe's that night because some of the friends were planning something weird and they didn't feel comfortable with it.
The police never polygraphed anyone related to Joe's case. There were 5 people with him the night he disappeared. One friend (the last cell phone call Joe ever made) admittedly lied about the false suicide note (this guy wrote it and claimed Joe did for 5 months!) that left all Joe's possessions to a girl that Joe hardly knew was never charged with obstruction of justice.

Joe Pichler disappearance. Several police departments in the US have offered to help Bremerton find Joe Pichler. The Bremerton police refused their help. The police departments were shocked that Bremerton didn't want their free help to find Joe!

Its really sad, all anyone can say is how annoying Nancy Grace is. I never watch the show but I do read about the missing persons. That to me is what is most important. I have no clue about ratings or any of that. I just hope all the missing people are found ect.

I'm sorry I like Nancy Grace, she's not doing this to get rich, she truly cares, and what's wrong with that? That's what's wrong with our world today, noone wants to get involved to help. She does and people slam her, is it because she is a woman?? everyone had their own opinion, this is mine

What is this poor kid's name???? It is spelled two different ways here. First as "Jason Pilcher" in the picture caption, then as "Joseph 'Joe' Pichler" in the article. That's two different first names and two different last names. WTH? Good for Nancy Grace and CNN to shed light on missing people but for goodness sakes spell his name correctly. I've never heard of him before (though I've seen two of his movies) but I still don't know his name. Shame on the editors/fact checkers who were obviously taking a break when this story was posted.
