It's true. But no worries. By now, they're so used to aftershocks that a 6.3 isn't even facebook-worthy anymore.

They're just aftershocks. They can go on for weeks and weeks after a major quake. It's common.

      Not quite Colleen.
Haiti didn't have 1000 aftershocks all higher than 4.3. Haiti had about 50 and Chile had about 130.
The number of aftershocks is by no means normal. 5th recorded highest earthquake in our history is hardly normal and I wish people would stop calling is normal. the USGS site has historical data, some of you should check it out before you speak.

If there is movement at the fault, it's an earth quake. If there is no movement at the fault, it's an aftershock.

It will never be solved. We will leave future generations with the health effects from radiation originating from this disaster for the rest of our species' time on earth.

Having lived through a 6.8 quake in California that destroyed my apartment, I can tell you that 6.3 is significant and will cause more damage.

    March 29, 2011 at 7:47 am | Report abuse |
    • duh

A 6.8 is 500 times worse so no, its not comparable really. Just because the numbers are close that doesn't mean much on a scale where every 0.1 is 100 times more powerful.

      March 29, 2011 at 8:14 am | Report abuse |
    • Wrong

Incorrect, duh. A 6.8 is about 3 times more powerful than a 6.3.

The richter scale is logarithmic. Increasing 1 point, say a 6.0 to 7.0 on the richter scale, means the quake is 10 times as powerful.

      @Buck

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Do 'you' have this absolute proof, to back up such wild claims...?

That there is a worldwide conspiracy to start earthquakes using HAAARP based on Nikola Tesla's technology...?

Please facts.... and cite specific and credible sources.

      Respectfully,

      Peace...
