Gotta Watch: Presidential first pitches; remembering Selena

It's a throwback kind of day in more ways than one. Baseball season starts today, making it the perfect time to reflect on a century's worth of presidential pitches. Also in today's Gotta Watch, we mark the 16th anniversary of singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez's death.

Perfecting the presidential pitch – For once, this is a presidential pitch devoid of any politics. Check out how the presidents measure up when it's time to throw out the first pitch. From 20th century presidents to more modern day leaders like Ronald Reagan pitching 1984, see who threw it best.

We have video of George H. W. Bush winding it up in 1991 and 1992. We also threw in Bill Clinton's 1992 pitch, George W. Bush's 2001, 2005 and 2009 pitches. And of course, there's president Barack Obama from 2009 and 2010.

Remembering Selena – Selena may have been one of the earliest pioneers in the 1990s Latin music explosion. The tejano singer already had a devoted following for her Spanish-language music, but she attained crossover success when her first English-language album was released posthumously. Two years after her death, the murdered Grammy winner helped ignite Jennifer Lopez's career. J. Lo played Selena in a 1997 biopic that bore the slain singer's name.

This is a very SAD day for many latinos who like me were shocked to have this terrible news. Selena is beloved part of our culture. She is the comparison to Elvis and it is just terrible how we all still hurt after all these years.

Hm, I live in Corpus Christi, TX, Selena's home, and I gotta one has said a single thing about it today. Was at the local college this morning, getting my classes in and not a single word. I was in CC when she was killed and even drove by the hotel where she was shot as it was happening, although I didn't know what the disturbance was at the time. While we do have the Selena memorial, which is always open to the public, I find it odd that no one, locally, has mentioned what today is. I guess perhaps its a generational thing...or maybe we all just forgot. I know I did, but then again. People here generally don't remember a great persons death, they remember their life, and we don't need a particular day to do that. Her music is still played on local stations everyday, and it's not unusual for you to hear passing cars still playing her songs. Selena lost her life that terrible day, but something good did come out of it. When she died, she wasn't forgotten. She transcended into immortality.

W easily had the best pitch amongst the past presidents. Barry's is amongst the worst if not the worst. Also, annoying that Barry always has to wear some ChiSox gear. I bet this doesn't go over very well with most of the local fans on Opening Day. You're the president of all the cities for gosh sakes. We know you're indebted to Chicago, but c'mon.

Many times, maybe that's why my perception is skewed, I just assume most guys can throw, you are right, if they never really played ball I guess they shouldn't be expected to throw. I'd love to put my money where my mouth is. Try throwing a four knuckle knuckle ball over the plate.
