Gotta Watch: Jessica Lynch then and now

A terrified but brave young soldier was rescued by her fellow soldiers in an Iraqi hospital eight years ago today. You may remember Private Jessica Lynch's story as the first successful rescue of a female prisoner of war. We've put together some video that tells her story and where she is now.

Daring nighttime rescue – Video leaked several years after her rescue shows the moment when U.S. military came to her aide after being held in a hospital for nine days.

Lynch sets the record straight– Today, Lynch is a far different woman than the frightened 19-year-old in the video above. She chats with HLN's Joy Behar about her controversial homecoming and her status as an American war hero.

I'm sorry, Chas, it's because Lori Piestewa (a Hopi Indian) and Shoshana Johnson (a black irate woman) are never mentioned. You gotta google Shoshana's smack down of a JAG officer that said "Well you don't understand what it's like on the front lines." Beautiful smack. Shoshana was with Jessica and was injured and captured. Lori was, too, and died from her wounds. Jess even mentions Lori in her coming home speech but no one focuses on her.

    Why the hype?

BECAUSE, she fits perfectly into the narrative of the brave young WHITE woman in distress; I remember there was a female black soldier that was captured during that period, hmmmm whats her name again??

Ok so while all of you have your fun with this, allow me to bring to light the harsh fact that 1SG dowdy who just got the the 507th maint Co. 2 weeks before the 5th of the 52nd ADA deployed to the theater who died in the HMMWV that Lynch was in, who left behind a wife and 4 kids, how bout CW2 Matta who was a carrer soldier who was dismembered and burried behind the hospital that Lynch was found in and the other of the 15 soldiers who were beaten after they were killed and paraded throught he streets and then dismembered and burried behind the hostpital like they were trash. Bet you didn't know that did you all. Everyone is so quick to start typing about things they dont know about, but have some respect for those of us that were there and yes we do consider ourselves lucky to have gotten out alive. Lynch as well as all the others who were either captured, tortured, killed etc, would never have been in that situation had it not been for the Captain that put them in harms way, had Cpt King not been stupid enough to go into a town that was not cleared this would never have happen, he disregarded the opionons of the combat vets he had in his unit who were clearly advising him to go around the town and not through it, he didn't make sure that his troops cleaned and serviced there weapons like they were suppose to, it is he who is ultimately responseable. And you know what, the only reason that Lynch is coming clean about what really happen is because of those like me who were there and have spoken the truth, she had no choice, yes she was a PoW, but that doesn't change the fact that she is a liar as well.
I am sick of hearing about her story and what happen to her, the really tragedy was that of the fallen who returned home in a box from that inncident and the pain there families have to relive everytime someone talks about this twit.

Hey one...I don't for ONE SECOND believe you were there, so you can sit down and STFU too! 1st of all, we don't talk about each other that way in public, even if we don't like our fellow comrades, we keep it amongst the team. 2nd of all, your facts are wrong, and what you did get right is easily found with very little effort into researching that horrible day. Jessica Lynch is 1,000 times the soldier and person you'll ever be – so before you call her names, think about what you've done worthy of your life! Stop your whining and man up.

AMEN Battle Buddy, we do not talk about each other like this, it is a family, the ones that do are liars, or more likely chapter cases, BECAUSE THEY WERE WORTHLESS! Let the Civvies talk all the smack they don't have a clue anyway. Like A PFC can somehow be held accountable regarding what her unit did or did not do is laughable. GOD I really wish sometimes that we (Military) were not as effective as we are, that way all you bull talking people that never served your country would figure out what it means to live in fear of another country or people trying to take everyone of your precious freedoms that you take for granted. Now go ahead and say something really ignorant like "If we didn't have an Army there would be no Conflicts".

The cover up of the real story surrounding her hospitization could the the reason that Pat Tillman was killed....If you do not watch the movie "The Pat Tillman Story" you cannot call yourself a patriot.

Hey Becky, how 'bout you sit down and STFU too you dumba** Watching a movie doesn't make you a Patriot, wearing a uniform and serving your country does. That's the dumbest statement I've read all day -and if you think the hollywood version of Pat Tillman's story is the're even dumber than dumb. Sit down and STFU.

With all respect to our soldiers, that wasn't a "rescue"! It was a slow training. I'm surprised they didn't stop at the hospital's cafe to have a bit to eat before leaving. She should have called the cab. She wasn't guarded after all and it didn't look like there was a war going on. And to the Iraqis credit – she was in a hospital on bed. No in some hold in the ground like cambodia

Do any of you read the comments before you post something, I mean wow I just gave you the truth and yet you still continue to say ignorant stuff. This is what I served my country for, I mean honestly is it that hard for people to be intelligent enough to read and form a coherient thought before just letting garbage flow from there mouths and fingers.

This interview would have been much better if it wasn't done by Joy Behar. She's such a yenta. You can see right through her self serving commentary and questions. She can't beleive the Iraqis actually tortured Ms. Lynch. Instead she turns the interview into an anti-US government Bush bashing. Just another typical liberal wack job posing as a journalist.
