Jennie-O recalls nearly 55,000 pounds of frozen ground turkey

Jennie-O Turkey Store is recalling nearly 55,00 pounds of frozen, raw turkey burgers that may be contaminated with Salmonella, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said Saturday.

The recall pertains to packages of "All Natural Turkey Burgers with seasonings Lean White Meat" with a "use by" date of December 23, 2011, the FSIS said on its website.

The ground turkey, which comes in 4-pound boxes containing 12 patties, is sold exclusively at Sam's Club, Jennie-O said on its recall website.

Consumers who have purchased the product should not consume it. They can return it to a Sam’s Club store for a full refund, Jennie-O said.

An investigation of a Salmonella outbreak  in 10 states found three people in Colorado, Ohio, and Wisconsin reported eating the Jennie-O ground turkey before they became ill, leading the FSIS to determine there is a link between the product and the outbreak, the agency said on its website.

The last of these illnesses was reported on March 14, 2011.

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly, and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy. The most common symptoms of the illness caused by eating food contaminated with Salmonella  are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever, according to the FSIS. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.

Watch a Pre-January 8th copy of Inception. Listen closely when the actors say imagine, reality, and safe, or point pistols. You'll hear the words, Loughner, offin' her, part of the word Giffords, and much more. Some say they hear, do it.

Cook the stuff properly and it won't matter. That's the problem: improper heating. Such a waste....

  5. USDA Inspectors.

There are USDA inspectors at all meat processing facilities. But these inspectors are no better than men in other lines of work. Some of them are crooked... accepting and giving bribes. We see this in every form of government, religion, and commerce.

And they dont have enough of them, and like you say they are working people just like everyone else some are trying to do the right thing then you got slackers and theives, get money under the table, because of trying to live above their means. What we need is inspectors watching inspectors and doing random inspections, so that they would be afraid of risking getting caught, and at the same time give second tier inspectors a better wage or bonus for weeding out the corrupt ones.

If the USDA meat inspector is on the take (accepting bribes in exchange for looking the other way) you will have tainted meat. What? You thought politicians and corporate executives were the only crooks in town?

And let's not forget that most all meat and dairy is tainted with drugs. Back in the day, only crooked ranchers used growth enhancing drugs. It was against the law because all the tests showed that these drugs were danderous for humans. Then as if from out of nowhere, Congress made it legal! (well, outta nowhere unless you are familiar with the meat and dairy lobby) Thanks to nearly 2 decades of US consuming this now 'legal' tainted meat, our kids are fat just like the cattle. Some of our boys are actually growing teets! And our little girls are menstruating at a much earlier age. (even just a few months is enough to offset the delicate balance of bringing forth life) And Congress had the gall to question MLB standouts concerning this very subject.

They would put enhancing drugs in cow feed so that they can produce milk for a longer period of time, then they past legislation to stop them from using the drug , but there is know follow up.

  12. Phil's trolling virus theory explained

At one time it was kinda funny even. We sorta chuckled and then went about our rat killing. We should have been alarmed. We should have nipped it in the bud. But we didn't because we couldn't. How do you stop a trolling virus from spreading? What, wear a 'thought condom'? There are too many of them now. Their images are outlined and their toungues are visible. They drool. he he
