9/11 suspects will not face civilian trials, officials say

Attorney General Eric Holder will announce this afternoon that the 9/11 suspects will not face federal civilian trials as the Obama administration wanted, two U.S. officials and a government source confirmed.

They instead will be tried before military commissions at Guantanamo Bay, the officials said.

The suspects include alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Monhammed.

You people make me sick. To call yourselves Americans. To say you have a pride in your country while simultaneously tarnishing the very ideals it was founded upon. How can you cheer when people are deemed guilty without due process of law? When torture used in place of concrete evidence? You are not Americans, you're tyrants. You're just as awful as any undemocratic dictator out there, feeling fit to arrest people wholly without charge. Assumption taken as certainty. What a shame.

I'm coming around to this. When a declared state of war exists, it's far more understandable. But when a act takes place, that is considered an act of war – wether by a state or a group, then the national leadership should define that as an act of war, and thus alleviate the limit to civilian courts.

The Nuremberg Trials were NOT regular civilian courts. They were as defined in the article of surrender. We are NOT going to sit around and hope for surrender here. I think those trials were proper & successful.

We have the act of war – a massive unprovoked attacks on a civiilian population. We have good reason to hold military justice.

Well, hell, let me think now... I've been held and tortured at Gitmo for 8+ years now and I haven't seen a court room or been given the ability to talk with an attorney in PRIVATE during all this time. I am SUSPECTED of being an ENEMY COMBATANT – you may supply your own definition regarding what that is; you will anyway. And now, the greatest nation on the face of the planet, the one who forces the great DEMOCRACY, JUDEA-CHRISTIANITY and INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM upon the rest of the entire globe, because it is a GOOD THING – it must be, it's ours – has made the decision to put my fate in the hands of a bunch of Gung Ho military people... obviously, the most unbiased group in the entire universe.
And, at least on this blog, we have the most thoughtful, insightful and rabid folks – probably all GOOD GOD FEARING CHRISTIANS – all clamoring for my death, as soon as possible. Even though, I have not been found GUILTY of anything yet; even though I have not even been to trial yet…
In the Marine Corps we call this a FUBAR; in this country, we simply refer to it as THE AMERICAN WAY…

Good, I hope they are lined up and shot. Maybe we should air it on TV. Our legal system sucks. Save the tax dollars and not even bother with a "trial". Just line them up and shoot them.

Broken promise? maybe... but it's not like he gave lip service to the idea and proceeded to do nothing. There was a real attempt here. Obama may be on the left (philosophically) but he governs as a pragmatic centrist... As a card-carrying liberal this is not as fun... but as a citizen of the very diverse U.S. nation it is probably a more responsible approach to leadership... i will continue to support him

If I were to vote on just who needs to stand trial,I'd indict those pigs at Gitmo first for torturing these guys. They need to be punished first but they won't. It makes one wonder if the justice system is truly just or not!

Any of you who thought Obama would allow an open trial concerning anything 9-11 related were taken for a ride. Obama and Bush see eye-to-eye on this subject. A civilian trial would allow the defense to call witnesses and have key pieces of evidence admitted. The money trail leading back to the House of Saud would become public knowledge. A civilian judge would allow flight 77s flight recorder as evidence, proving once and for all time that a jumbo-jet did NOT hit the Pentagon. Expert witnesses, like the founder of firefightersfor911truth.org (a retired FDNY Merit Class 1 veteran) who would testify explosive charges were used to bring the towers down. Former FBi agents would testify likewise, since their own investigation found the same explosives attatched to the inner floor-truss bolts. Even reporter Ashleigh Banfield would testify just like she did live on 9-11 when she reported hearing explosions AND smelling cordite. Firemen who battled the Pentagon blaze....many of them contracted DU illness...(cont)

...the same illness troops get when working around DU missiles. The jury would know that there's no way a jumbo-jet punched a hole in the Pentagons inner courtyard, because it's physically impossible. The jury would see that the complete jet engine found @ the Pentagon didn't even belong to flight 77! Nope. No way in hello the gov will allow an American style court battle, so they will do it the Hitler way.

Bush was right after all.....Obama took long enough to figure that out. Yep, Obama back tracked on this as well as....
    1) debate on healthcare will be on CSPAN......lie
    2) I will close Gitmo.....lie
    3) I knew nothing about the church and the preacher I attended for over 20 years.....lie
    4) I will open up with and speak to Iran.......yeah, that worked great! NOT....
    5) I will get us OUT of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.......wrong again....he started another
one last thing.........where are all the peace protesters? If the GOP would have gone into Libya there would have been no shortages of Cindy Sheehan's and code pink screaming......all the networks would be screaming (abc, nbc, cbs, msnbc and of course cnn).
