11 students die in Brazil school shooting; police kill suspect
[Update 3:43 p.m.] The number of students killed in a shooting rampage inside a school Thursday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has risen to 11, Rio de Janeiro's health secretary said.
Thirteen students remain injured, including four in critical condition, he said.
[Update 11:33 a.m.] A shooting rampage inside a school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, killed 10 students before the suspect was fatally shot by police, the country's health minister said.
The student victims were nine girls and one boy, the health ministry told CNN. Eighteen others, 12 boys and six girls, were wounded. the government said.
Earlier reports erroneously stated that 13 had died at the Tasso da Silveira Municipal School.
[Update 10:47 a.m.] The suspect in the fatal shootings of at least 13 students and personnel of a school in Rio de Janeiro died after being shot by authorities, the state-run Agencia Brasil reported Thursday. He was identified as Wellington Menezes de Oliveira, 24, a former student at the school.
[Posted 10:08 a.m.] At least 13 people, both children and adults, were killed Thursday in a school shooting in Rio de Janeiro, CNN affiliate Record TV reported, citing civil police.
The incident happened at the Tasso da Oliveira Municipal School.
According to Record TV, a 24- or 25-year-old man entered the school in the morning armed with two handguns and opened fire on children and school personnel.
As the man fled, he ran into military police who were responding to the scene. There was a confrontation, and the man was shot, the state-run Agencia Brasil news agency reported. The man and the injured victims were taken to a hospital, the agency reported.

It´s very sad to watch this kind of insanity happens in our country, we are a nation very peacefull, it´s not more an American nighmare, I agree, It´s a world wide nighmare, we have to stop that, we have to exterminate that!!!!
I don´t know if is really fault the Slamism, but we watch so many people doing these crimes in name of Slam, so I think the World leaders should make something about it. It happens in USA, Europe, Asia and now here in South America in Brazil!

The % of deaths for Brazil per 100k people are some of the highest rates in the world.
The police freely admit they torture and kill.

The rate of death in the favelas for children are equal to war areas.
Criminals burn public buses full of men,women, children and senior citizens.
The rate of injured and killed on the roads is 10 times higher than the USA with 9x fewer vehicles.

I live in Brazil (unfortunately) it is very violent here and the thing is it is all Brazilians, very little new blood or immigrants come to live in Brazil.
Between 1998-2001 3M Brazilans left brazil, only 100k people came in. Subtract from that 100k Angolans & Timorese fleeing civil war, wanted criminals which Brasil welcomes and businessmen ordered to Brasil for their jobs. Whats left?

People want to take their pain + negative emotions out on others. It is a true coward who does this with children. The people who are truly unable to fight back.
i'm with y'all, this derp character is very sick and twisted.
this is so horribly tragic. more and more of these nightmarish things are happening everywhere. how can we collectively join together to help stop these evil tragedies? it's so bad, i'm afraid to even let my grandchildren play in the backyard without being there, the whole time, watching over them. and when they are at schools, malls, public places (when their parents or i'm not with them) i worry constantly. these things haunt me always.
i pray for these children and their families.

Stop saying stupid things! I'm brazilian and if you're reading the news you know this tragedy has nothing to do with religion or "american nightmare"! It's all about a sick person, a psychopath... and there are people like this, everywhere! there's violence everywhere!!! Tragedies like these can happen in any country... unfortunatelly!

this news is wrong. the man was not killed by the police but committed suicide after making shots.
he was not a terrorist, he acted for religious motives, but for delusional behavior.
