Democrats, Republicans agree on a budget deal

The Senate has passed a short-term budget deal that will keep the government funded through next Thursday. The measure was later approved by the House of Representatives.

"We have agreed to an historic amount of cuts for the remainder of this fiscal year, as well as a short-term bridge that will give us time to avoid a shutdown while we get that agreement through both houses and to the President. We will cut $78.5 billion below the President’s 2011 budget proposal, and we have reached an agreement on the policy riders. In the meantime, we will pass a short-term resolution to keep the government running through Thursday. That short-term bridge will cut the first $2 billion of the total savings," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker John Boehner said in a joint statement issued after the agreement.

President Obama commended Democrats and Republicans on working together to reach a solution.

"The government will be open for business," Obama said. "That's because today, Americans of different beliefs came together again.

"In the final hours before our government would have been forced to shut down, leaders in both parties reached an agreement that will allow our small businesses to get the loans they need, our families to get the mortgages they applied for, and hundreds of thousands of Americans to show up at work and take home their paychecks on time."

The answer is to put these people on term limits just like the president. That will maybe help to keep them honest. And after 8 years of playing, look what a big shot I am, they'll have to go back to work for a living.

@Helen, Really? Obama spends &spends and is forever going on vacation? Uh,no. Pretty sure he's working & not clearing scrub at the ranch for a month. Dinner parties are kind of a presidential job requirement-or is it just because a black man is acting uppity wearing a tuxedo? The immigrants are leaving us now, because even they can make more money in their home country w/our unemployment rates. Black privileges? The man was raised by white grandparents & a white mother in Hawaii. Doesnt get much blacker than that does it? Black people only come from Africa? Pleeaassee! Take your ignorant racist self back to wherever you came from. Fox has brainwashed you well. You are the voter they strive to indoctrinate. Alie isnt true just because its repeated. There are other news sources out there that arent all propaganda. Fellow American.

Im all for term limits, but how can we do it? We elect them to be our representatives and they make the laws. How can we stop them from voting in pay increases & pass term limits? Im serious. How can we the people make it happen? Congress sure isnt gonna vote it in themselves. Why should they? Theyve got it made.

Why not get rid of congress altogether and let the public vote on laws? Oh yea the powers think were to stupid to understand the laws. Why pay congress at all? Can you name 1 congressman who will starve without their pay? Me neither.

Something needs to change that's for certain, but the whole country would have to work together.

"The world has become such a frightening place. There is so much anger and not enough love. Deep in the hearts of so many people there is and emptyness that nothing of this world can fill. And that emptyness makes it impossible for them to love. What should I do? Remind them that I love them, that I died for them, tell them that my love is real. That's the message! And if they open there hearts, I will fill that emptyness, and will lead them to love one another"..... We have all lost our path into the light of God. Greed has imprisoned us all. It has truely been the the devils work. He has tempted with things he deemed desireable for mankind to worship, such as vehicles, jewelry, houses, money, clothes, and power. We have all allowed all of these things to determine our lives and how we live them. That is not what God intended us to do. We have all been destroying ourselves for thousands of years based on these temptations. It is time to leave these things alone and walk with God. We need to come together and turn to God. Why are we letting money and greed controll the world??? Please answer that question. You politicains should not be ashamed and fearful to voice your faiths on television. God is our only leader and we have all turned away from him. Who in this world feels that they have the devine right to act above God? Noone has that right. We have all lead ourselves to believe and trust in these false prophecies. Obama said this qoute, "It is time for a change we can believe in." Obama was right, but he is not the change we should believe, nor is anyone or anything in this world. God is the only thing we can believe in. . Read the back of the One Dollar Bill. It simply states... IN GOD WE TRUST.... Now ask yourselves, when is the last time anyone of us has truely and whole-heartedly put our trust in God??

    • Women's Rights Protected

I do not see the deal as a Republician win, but rather I see it as costing 1 Billion dollars to protect Women's Health and Rights. Shame on the female Republician women, who when asked why Tile X can't be debated and voted on as a seperate bill. Their answer should have been "yes we can comprise on that", but instead, they answered "its about the whole package'? Really? Let's hope your future daughters and grand-daughters will still have their rights when the time comes. And to Mr. Boehner, please stop crying like a sissy and grow a pair for once.

The budget cuts will probably be from services that the average American can use, but doesn't further either party's agenda. They usually do.
