The National Basketball Association fined Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers $100,000 on Wednesday for "offensive and inexcusable" comments he made during Tuesday night's game, the league said in a statement.
Come on people we all say all kinds of words every now and then in the heat of the moment that we don't direct towards any one or anything this does not mean we are anti anything. I also believe gays and lesbians have used those word against and toward them self's just like the "N" word being used by colored people. Now was it wrong yes have we all done it yes does it mean I am anti anything no. But I do believe if you are a role model you need to be careful on what you say.
@Randy Because, genius, it's in the contract he has with the NBA. If it were not, then they would not be able to fine him. It has nothing to do with being a famous BB star.
@Randy: It's called a professional code of conduct. Using such language on his own time in the privacy of his home or car is one thing; doing so publicly while executing his job and representing his employer is something entirely different.
Sure, it's a professional code of conduct. They're right to fine him. But a $100,000 fine is not a slap on the wrist. What would make you complete and total morons happy? Should he be banned for life from any professional sport? Come on. Try to think for a second. It was a heatd game, he said something he shouldn't, he'll pay ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS for that.
Former Marine? Yeah he was never in the service... you are a Marine for the REST of your life even if you do just your four years... what a moron. HOORAH
According to http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm, Kobe makes $24,806,250 (excluding endorsements). A $100,000 fine is 0.00413% of his salary. In everyday terms, if you make $100,000 a year, the fine would be $403.12.
If you're going to fine someone, make it hurt, financially.
This is why I agree that this was a very small slap on the wrist.
it is amazing that we would root for any fine. I believe that an apology would go a lot farther. that's why kids today act the way they do. He should publicly be accountable for his behavior and be a true role model. A fine is an easy way out and gives the impression that you can do what you want with no true consequence. 100K on the other hand is too much money. it's more than I make in year and I dont look at it as chump change no matter who has to pay

Somehow, I was hoping for a little more info than that when I clicked on this article.
You know I never reply to any of these boards... but you do realize that Kobe grew up in one of the richest parts of the entire country on the Main Line in Philly right? At least be intelligent when you make comments
Just because he's black doesn't mean he grew u broke. He grew up in one of the wealthiest suburbs of Philly. His dad was a professional basketball player, you clown.
Wonder what made you think he's from the ghetto. Check your prejudices... and your spelling.
Don't play stupid. "Ghetto" has very specific racial connotations that near everyone is aware of. If you think what he did was bigoted or ignorant, say that. Don't rely on lazy racial stereotypes.
Kobe was speaking to the ref in Italian (a second language he learned to speak fluently while living in Italy, not in the ghetto) offering to buy him a bean soup dinner after the game–and was clearly misunderstood. The fine should be rescinded.

What do you want done Guber? jail time?
Former Marine, your username makes me believe that you did not actually serve in the USMC. Let's see who can figure it out.
Because there is no such thing as a "former Marine" – maybe he is into agriculture and cant spell? A Farmer Marine?
Former Marine? Yeah he was never in the service... you are a Marine for the REST of your life even if you do just your four years... what a moron. HOORAH

because, once a marine always a marine. one would never say "former" marine
No such thing as a former Marine. I've never even served and I know that much.

Well, what did he say?
He said:
"Beanie! (the name of the ref) fu%@ing fa*&ot.

lol. You might want to tell us what he said or else the story really isn't much of a story now is it.
How is anyone supposed to have an opinion on such a worthless tidbit of information.
Well what the hell did he say?
Amazing!!!!!!!!a slap on the wrist
a slap on the wrist? What's the typical fine in your neck of the woods for an "offensive" comment? Oh, right, 1st ammendment.
You can take Kobe out of the Getto but you can't take the Getto out of Kobe.
Dumb is what dumb does.
....and Kobe didn't grow up 'in the getto'. Its spelled GHETTO, and he didn't grow up there either!!! smh
I've heard of the "ghetto", but not the getto, is that something new?
You know I never reply to any of these boards... but you do realize that Kobe grew up in one of the richest parts of the entire country on the Main Line in Philly right? At least be intelligent when you make comments
"Dumb is what dumb does"
Speak for yourself.
Talk about dumb!!!!!
Now who is the dumb person? Even my 5 year old can spell Ghetto correctly!
Just because he's black doesn't mean he grew u broke. He grew up in one of the wealthiest suburbs of Philly. His dad was a professional basketball player, you clown.
Wonder what made you think he's from the ghetto. Check your prejudices... and your spelling.
Google this thread and watch the close up video:
Did Kobe Bryant Exclaim âFâking Fâgâ Last Night?
...you can't take the Ghetto out of Kobe.
It's about his ignorant, vulgar, disrespectful state of mind, not where he grew up.
Charlie, quite while you are ahead. You already proven yourself dumb and a racist.
Don't play stupid. "Ghetto" has very specific racial connotations that near everyone is aware of. If you think what he did was bigoted or ignorant, say that. Don't rely on lazy racial stereotypes.
Kobe didn't grow up in the ghetto.....
You got that right!
That was a racial comment and inappropriate. You need to think before you post-and by the way check your spelling.
"dumb is as dumb does"....I'd like to be as dumb as he is to make $17Mil a year. You must be too smart to make that much money.

A gay slur towards a ref
Dear CNN,
Please wake up and smell my rotting corpse from the lethal dose of news you feed my brain everyday.
I love you,
Your #1 Fan
Kenny F*&kin Powers
He used a gay slur towards a ref on National television. What a waste of life...
Are you referencing yourself or the ref, when you say 'what a waste of life????
YAY!
3 lines of "news"? Really? Was this worth the bandwidth
why the hell did Kobe say that? wait a minute, what did he say again?
