The National Basketball Association fined Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers $100,000 on Wednesday for "offensive and inexcusable" comments he made during Tuesday night's game, the league said in a statement.
Sticks and stones...hardly worthy of a $100,000 fine. Why can't people just get over name calling and stop whining about it. Oversensitive crybabies who constantly need their egos fed because their feelings got hurt. If you can't handle a couple of bad names without making a big media circus out of it, then you need some major psychotherapy. What ever happened to freedom of speech?
Not meaning to sound preachy but how can we expect or society to advance to an age where everyone is treated as equals if we keep putting taboos on specific words. This leads to social boundaries by telling people you can`t say a certain word. It will always lead to a distinguishing (pardon my spelling) of a specific type of either person or lifestyle. To truly allow our society to advance we should not place both social and leglaslative taboos on any words.
So....a player mumbles something to himself, where no one was really paying ANY attention to what he was mumbling (except apparently the cameraman who should've been paying attention to the game instead), and he gets fined for it? I think Kobe is overrated but this fine is just stupid. If the technology existed, people would be getting fined for even THINKING something mildly offensive. More and more these days, I think Orwell's 1984 will become truth and we won't even realize it until it's too late.
As a gay man I get that Kobe was incredibly out of line, but he can't really talk considering he looks like a Manzie in this photo: http://bit.ly/e2pJyX
Kobe needs to apoligize to all three referees and then miss the rest of the season. Thats the only
way players will learn and teach the next generation of kids coming into the game.
I think I'll send Kobe $50 or $100 for help with his fine. He's provided me with the joy of watching him play all these years, its the least I can do. He said he was sorry and thats good enough for me. As for all the haters here..."ye without sin, cast the 1st stone" think about that! Who hasnt ever said something they wish they hadnt??? Now, lets get to the task of trying to win another championship, because its not going to be easy...it never is, was, or gonna be.
