Gotta Watch: Sleepy politicians

In light of Vice President Joe Biden's recent napping episode caught on cam here, we thought we'd dig up some of our best naptime videos featuring your favorite sleepy politicians.

Napping greatest hits – Our very own Jeanne Moos highlights political napping that goes back to the Reagan administration, when the president nodded off in front of Pope John Paul II, and Dick Cheney taking a snooze at a briefing.

Presidential REM – In all fairness, many of these sleepy lawmakers do work long hours. CNN's Jason Carroll looks back at presidential sleeping habits and gives some insight into why our politicians sometimes get caught with their eyes closed.

Budget Z's – Despite the hype over the California budget crisis, this hearing shows that clearly not everyone was interested.

Well, most of the politicians are elderly.

Theres something called 'The Prime of Life" supposedly when we are at our sharpest mentally and physically. I don't understand why in this country we insist on having our government ran by a bunch of old men.

    @ banasay

what perceptive, intellectually sound and pertinent remarks – " history of Khan family and what an amoeba looks like.'
I am all admiration and I am sure fellow bloggers would be too as soon as they can make some sense of the intent behind these remarks.

    @IKMAN:

It was to illustrate how boring lectures can be. How one can be seen falling asleep when attending one, as I have. I was comparing a boring lecture with a boring congressional meeting. And as you're the only one who *didn't* grasp my meaning, I can only assume you've never attended a classroom lecture before.

Don't need to see video, already knew that the vast majority of these politicians are asleep. What about that guy (Senator?) they took pictures of when he was viewing p/o/r/n on his computer while in session. Pervert, but at least he wasn't napping... 😉

I couldn't site through a meeting like that without snoozing. Have you ever listend to some of those things?

Then again, maybe Vice President should resign if members of the senate do it, and the Speaker of the house should resign if house members snooze. After all, didnt the chief Air traffic controller resign because som air traffic controllers were snoozing? Seems only fair.

      Yet Bet!
And they don't sound like crazy deranged evil like GOP so-called leaders. I won't even let these crazy deranged evil GOP so-called leaders meet my dog. My dog has more brains than anyone of them with their 2-yr. old childish nonsense they display on TV daily.

Che-3, please consult dictionary.com for the definition of racist. When you return, analyze Rita's post and try to explain how you concluded she is racist. If you are intellectually honest and capable you will see your attack is baseless. Please grow your argumentative skills before trying to represent your beliefs in a public forum.

      Sincerely,
Anyone who has read your post

I'm a liberal but I have nothing mean to say about any of these sleepers. Their jobs are long and they often neglect sleep and other healthy activities for the sake of me, you and all other Americans. Maybe we should think twice about making fun of them the next time we get to sleep in an extra hour on the weekend. Or just remember the days as new parents when we had to work all day on only 3-4 (& sometimes 0) hours of sleep a night for months on end. But even that was for only months. These men and women do it for years on end. Caffeine can only get you so far.

And this isn't anything we would not see on Tosh.0, or America's Funniest Videos, so lighten up! This is why CNN put this thread up; comic relief!
