Arizona governor vetoes presidential 'birther bill'

Arizona's governor has vetoed a bill that would require President Barack Obama and other presidential candidates to prove they were born in the United States before their names could be placed on Arizona's ballots.

Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, said she could not "support designating one person as gatekeeper to the ballot for a candidate."

Under the measure, if there were any dispute about whether a candidate had proved he or she had been born in the United States, Arizona's secretary of state would have the final say.

The Arizona "birther bill" got final approval by a vote of 40-16 last week in the state House. It now will not become law unless legislators vote to override Brewer's veto.

example: If you were called before Congress and told to bring a copy of your county courthouse issued birth certificate and showed up with your hospital issued 'certificate of life birth' would be held in contempt.

Not necessarily, but I see where you're going with this. You must not have anything else better to do than blame all of your hardships on the POTUS. However, at the same time, you fault government handouts because "you can do it on your own."

@welcome to reality ... When people use phrases like "no matter what" it's a figure of speech ... not to be taken LITERALLY. If Obama decided to make himself King, I'd take up arms ... and I'm about as liberal as anyone can get ... your reality ain't realistic!

@66 biker...could you give us an example of this procedure you have outlined? Really. Is there such a procedure, or are you just assuming there is.

Down with the 2 party corrupt monopoly! Demand 3rd party primaries! @Phillip: I see you're still using the 2 wrongs make a right web spinning method to your reasoning. I'd expect nothing less from a sith lord. Unless you're just joking?

I never knew "liberals" could get so ugly.

As for the birthers... behold them exercising their first amendment rights.

Amazing... the lack tolerance on both sides. I feel sorry for our country, we are truly lost and misdirected.

Mitt Romney's father (George)...made a run for President...was governor of Michigan was born in Mexico...where were the birthers back then.?...he was a Republican and the Dems just don't come up with these lame brained conspiracies. The right wing always has them....the Birchers were that way, Joseph McCarthy who called everyone a Communist to smear them, the Orville Faubus, George Wallace, Barnetts etc. who said people trying to exercise their rights as citizens were being manipulated by outside agitators...sounds just like the outside agitators asking for rights in Libya, Syria etc.

Listen, a certificate of live birth is NOT a birth certificate. In many cases, it is completely unacceptable to use for purposes of proving one was born here in the US. Obama's grandmother said she was in the hospital room in Kenya when Obama was born. When she said this, it was only a matter of moments before Obama's handlers figured out she just made a major boo-boo, and corrected her. Next thing you know, she said she was at his birth in Hawaii. The video above has Michele Obama stating Kenya is Barack's home country. Barrack Obama is the president of the United States, and one of the most powerful and influential people in the world. The lying sack of dog-stuff could obtain a copy of his birth certificate, if he so chose, and dispel all the speculation. The nonsense about Hawaii not providing a copy of a birth certificate, even to the person to whom it relates to, is complete and total fiction. Again, Obama could get his birth certificate, if he so chose to. If there is ANY truth to what Trump says about Obama having spent $2 million avoiding showing his birth certificate, would that seem rather odd to you? Now, know Obama could get his birth certificate, you have to wonder why he does not. Maybe it shows he was NOT born in the US? Maybe is states his religion as Muslim? Whatever the reason, Obama does not want people to see his birth certificate. Aren't a whole bunch of folks going to be embrassed if it ever comes out that Obama was in fact trying to bury his birth certificate? I would laugh my behind off! If the pressure keeps up, Obama is going to be forced to show his birth certificate. It's only a matter of time.

Actually that myth was cleared up and the interpeter had misinterpeted what the lady had said. She corrected herself and said that President Obama was born in Hawaii. Nice try to spin but No.

Anyone ever try to get a Driver's license without a Birth Certificate or Social Security card. Just wait til you lose a wallet. I live in Illinois, remember Obama was a senator there, you have to use medical records before they can be issued. It took me 6 months. I have no doubt just because of the red tape involved.

Birthers always forget that all Barry had to do was be born to his American mother. That makes him an American Citizen, not the place he was actually born. What a bunch of Reptards.

@Big Game James...we aren't asking to see his birth certificate to check his ethnicity. The color of his skin has nothing to do with this. We have every right to see that b/c. Have you ever heard of the 'Freedom of Information act"? (you may recall the 911 victim's families sueing the Pentagon under the freedom of information act It took a few years, but the Pentagon was finally forced to release surveillance video) This administration will be sued (if not already) if they do not comply with the peoples wishes on this matter. We WILL prove the truth.
