Arizona's governor has vetoed a bill that would require President Barack Obama and other presidential candidates to prove they were born in the United States before their names could be placed on Arizona's ballots.
Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, said she could not "support designating one person as gatekeeper to the ballot for a candidate."
Under the measure, if there were any dispute about whether a candidate had proved he or she had been born in the United States, Arizona's secretary of state would have the final say.
The Arizona "birther bill" got final approval by a vote of 40-16 last week in the state House. It now will not become law unless legislators vote to override Brewer's veto.

Finally, a Republican governor showing some common sense!..maybe the Tea Brainless Party will wake up and face reality.
Idiot is too mild, but CNN censors postings. How about uber idiot? Sort like that ...
Seriously, if it was found out that Obama really wasn't a natural born citizen and then would be disqualified from holding office, then most likely Biden would become the President. So shut up. You won't get your tea bagger, ahem, partier Conservative craphead as President.
If indeed Obama was proven to be not "natural born" would that make all legislation, bills, and other items signed by him illegal or bogus? Would all that he did be illegal, as I am sure he knows where he was born. Would he be subject to arrest and sentanced as a fake? This could be the biggest bombshell to hit the USA since 1776! I am sure that Biden and the rest of the Democrats would be escaping the sinking ship, er party, like rats off a sinking ship as I am sure that the Democratic Party would be in real trouble for credibility. The Republicans have a long way to go before they are trusted again and of course the TEA party appears to be a bunch of radicals. So who would lead us, Clinton, Palosi, Reid, Frank? Geesh, what a bunch of Baffoons we have leading this nation with no one to trust or feel confident about. It has now been 3 years since Obama took office. Do you feel like you are in better shape than you were before he took office? How do you like all those changes?
@db – actually, those changes have worked out very, very well for me. I am making a rather substantial income and have more work than I can keep up with.
I don't agree with many of President Obama's decisions, not by a long shot, but I do believe he is an honest man and makes decisions based on what is good for our country – not his political party. I am a Republican and it is hard to say that these days. I am ashamed of both major political parties in this country. I think the best we can do is to have a president that is good at heart and honest. That's what I believe we have now.
Actually, it hasn't been 3 years since he took office. He took office on 1/20/09. It has been 2 years and almost 3 months.
Is Obama a Kenian, Malisian, or US Citizen? Who knows for sure. Check out that presentation and see for sure and to what he even admits!
Obama' father was British citizen and his mother American, he was proved that he was born in Hawaii in 1961 but it had only been a state 2yrs so record keeping far from perfect. Hawaii also only issues a typed or printed copy, not a photocopy of the original.
db, he's a natural born US citizen. Get over it.
Also, seriously, if it was found out that Obama really wasn't a natural born citizen and then would be disqualified from holding office, then most likely Biden would become the President. So shut up. You won't get your tea partier Conservative craphead as President.
It's all a bluff, deep inside she wishes she could have signed it, but had the common sense to realize that the people know that they are only doing this cause Obama is black.
You are not only accurate, but wise beyond your years...
Brewer is the best thing to happen to AZ. Other than AHCSS, every decision she's made has been beneficial, naysayers and ignorant fearmongers be d*mned.
Even when she "decided" to keep talking about all those non-existent beheadings in the desert?
I hope you democratic politicians are keeping track of all the bills you need to destroy once you reclaim office.
I do believe Obama was born in the U.S., but I am kind of surprised that showing proof of eligibility wasn't already a requirement already for candidacy. I'm all for requiring any candidates to prove eligibility.
My girl friend works at a brewry in Milake Wisconsin. She stole 32 cases of Miller Lite. I sell cheap $2.50 a six pick. Who is interested. Ivbe had 9 beers can't type to good good stuf
No f--ng way!
This truly is a shocker.
OMG. I never would have guessed Jan Brewer is part of the cover up!! There is no other possible explanation when someone who clearly was not born in this country runs for president. And we heard about all those legal bills after the election. This is really a slap in the face for John McCain (born in Panama) and that 1.3 Million his campaign is using in post election legal bills (must be part of the cover up becuase there is no other reason for high legal bills in a presidential election). Hope a few birthers were stupid enough to hit like based on the first couple sentences.
Why were you guys not screaming and yelling when McCain ran? He was not born in the United States. If Obama would of been a white man with a British or Canadian father all of you sheeple would have nothing to say about it.
You are as crazy as your as I am! Know what I mean, Vern? Chill out and have some ice cream.
Holy Crap. Jan Brewer did something right for once!
