Arizona governor vetoes presidential 'birther bill'

Arizona's governor has vetoed a bill that would require President Barack Obama and other presidential candidates to prove they were born in the United States before their names could be placed on Arizona's ballots.

Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, said she could not "support designating one person as gatekeeper to the ballot for a candidate."

Under the measure, if there were any dispute about whether a candidate had proved he or she had been born in the United States, Arizona's secretary of state would have the final say.

The Arizona "birther bill" got final approval by a vote of 40-16 last week in the state House. It now will not become law unless legislators vote to override Brewer's veto.

@theincognito – Do you even know the requirements to be a natural born citizen? That's a rhetorical question because you obviously don't. Regardless even if your consipiracy was correct and the president was born in Kenya, he would still be a natural born citizen by the simple fact that his mother was a citizen who was a resident of the US for more than 5 years and more than 2 years after she was 14.

I'm pretty new to this blog, and all I have to say is: wow. CNN's audience is apparently as wildly slanted to the left as Fox is wildly slanted to the right. Where does one have to go to be among even keeled rationale thinkers? It sure ain't here.

I get my straight forward news from NPR,
and then catch the spin here and at fox news. NPR pretty much splits it right down the middle, on reporting news. Some of their other shows have a liberal slant, but the news is right down the middle.

The president is born in Hawaii and his mom was a lady from Kansas. He has shown his birth certificate. What else do you need as proof that he is a natural born citizen? The birthers are just showing how stupid they are.

I still don't see why your president Obama refuses to just show his birth certificate ... What's the big deal unless he is hiding something???

Right Wing Nut Jobs will still keep on hating and be trolls. Personally, I'm laughing at the Tea Baggies because, in the end of the day, Obama is STILL the President of the United States of America. He's keeping his term. Stop being a bunch of whiny little babies and man up, sissy boys. While you're crying, I'm laughing!

    "A claim that, if true...."??

How about "a bogus claim by frustrated racists, that has been repeatedly discredited and proven false beyond any doubt"??

It's amazing to see one country with so many cleaver people and at the same time with an abandon number of brainless ones. We are a bunch of sheep in this country. These people are unable to think for themselves. it's a shame. Do you folks actually think that McCain and Hilary would not have discovered it if he was not a US citizen. Don't you think that Fox will find out by now. Come one people.

These are the 20% of racist, dumb and ignorant citizens of our share that all nations in the world have. All nations have a 20% racist and dumb believe in conspiracies. They cannot sleep at night without fabricating conspiracies. It's in their psyche.

That's your proof, and speeches like it. What a numskull! Referring to "home" country like that is stating where your ancestors came from. I can't believe you don't know that. You're just another one of those teabaggers who closed your mind to reality because it does jive with your preconceived idiocy.
