Arizona governor vetoes presidential 'birther bill'

Arizona's governor has vetoed a bill that would require President Barack Obama and other presidential candidates to prove they were born in the United States before their names could be placed on Arizona's ballots.

Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, said she could not "support designating one person as gatekeeper to the ballot for a candidate."

Under the measure, if there were any dispute about whether a candidate had proved he or she had been born in the United States, Arizona's secretary of state would have the final say.

The Arizona "birther bill" got final approval by a vote of 40-16 last week in the state House. It now will not become law unless legislators vote to override Brewer's veto.

Finally, Governor Brewer does the right thing. I've been so ashamed of Arizona for the past while now (I live here).

Barack Obama was born in Hawaii to an American mother, who raised him (with her parents) and to an African man who abandoned him as an infant. He is not only American by birth, but American by culture and training. Just because he's from a "different" state and is of a "different" color does not make him not-American. More and more, it makes him very American, and those of us WASPs more on the fringe.

News flash to morons...his birth cert has never been shown. What they have is a cert of live birth which is not not not a birth cert. Obama has never produced the original doc. Shut up. go take your meds and crawl back in bed with grandma.

Donald Trump: A Certificate of Live Birth is absolutely official. I have one, and it's official. It's the ID I used to get my passport. I hope the Obama Administration does nothing. This thing was proven, and it's over. And no matter what is ever will never be enough for the birthers. So enough, already.

Despite being stupid beyond belief (and good job Governor Jan) I wonder if the legislature will attempt to over ride the veto.

Funny how many of you want to bash Arizona about their border problems. Most of you Libs were prolly screaming when they passed the legislation. The Feds are supposed to handle that anyway. I do think this whole debate is retarded as well, but it could be solved by just showing a BC. Oh well, I'll let you libs go back to your name calling.

There are a lot of names people could call you, Mitch, clueless seems most apt.

The Obama birth certificate is posted right at the top of this blog, or are you just clueless?

Hmm, I wonder why conserva-wonder-boy W didn't solve the border issue. He had 8 years to do it in, after all. At least he could have bothered to deport some people (deportations are up 100% since his departure).

By law the birth certificate is not required or necessary. "The certificate of birth" issued by the state is good enough. This happens in a lots of cases in numerous states. Obama has produced the "The certificate of Birth" By the state of Hawaii. Good enough for most of American except the racist trying to prove something that does not exist. Most of the people are leaning racist if not actually racist. They need to prove that he was not born in US instead of Obama should be required to prove them. These people will never be convinced even if they were to produce the birth certificate. The certificate of birth is just as good as birth certificate. The certificate of birth is produce by the state from the existing records.

nobody: "Personally, I'm laughing at the Tea Baggies because, in the end of the day, Obama is STILL the President of the United States of America."

Were you laughing at liberals too for attacking Bush as a "fake" President and for pursuing the hanging chads relentlessly?

    No? How intelligent of you.

.r. President can bring in the delivering doctors and nurses, get depositions from the other mothers whose children were in the nursery with him, produce a 8mm film of the birth with the hospital sign shown outside the window in the backround, and find one of the cigars that were passed out saying "it's a boy" after his birth, and it would STILL not convince people. It's an exercise in futility. Nothing will ever convince the people trying to demonize him. Bleh!

I didn't vote for Obama but this is just plain stupid. We wanted McCain but we lost fair and square. We lost, get over it already. Obama is actually a lot better than I expected he'd be. I might even vote for him this time around.

I'm surprised that this is something they don't check first, especially a presidential candidate.
