Report: China stealth fighter makes second test flight

China has had a second test flight of its J-20 stealth fighter jet, according to a report from the government-owned newspaper Global Times.

Under the headline "Mystery jet 'flies' again," the paper cited witness accounts that the jet flew Sunday in Chengdu as part of celebrations of the 60th anniversary of China's aviation industry.

The flight lasted almost an hour and a half, an unnamed witness told Global Times.

"The J-20 made several passes and waggled its wings (rolling the plane first to one side then to the other) to salute the crowd near the airfield," Global Times quotes the witness as saying.

The J-20 "has been touted as a potential challenger to the U.S. Air Force's F-22 Raptor, the world's only fifth-generation fighter jet," Global Times said.

The J-20 made its first flight in January as U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates was visiting China.

Both this plane and the F-22 are outdated. Unmanned aircraft will be the near future of attack aircraft. The technology has been proven (even the F-22 can be operated unmanned). Eliminating pilots allows the ability to extend range, increase payload, increase maneuverability and reduce operating costs. Pilots are no longer an asset, they are strictly a liability. The Air Force doesn't like it, but it is time to say we are done with the 1930's era flight computer.

I agree. The hard part is going to be giving up the "control". Without a pilot, we no longer have restrictions imposed by the human element, necessary to sustain life. I'm not worried about China's military anyway. Why attack us when they're doing such a good job of buying America? Cheaper and they don't have to worry about rebuilding anything they damage, or contaminate.

  2. I'm Ashamed To Live In a Country With So Many Morons And Blind Sheep... Bah Bah

@joe doe: look at the tags on your shirt, pants, shoes, computer, tv, or any other item you never bought at Walmart and tell me where they were made. Michael Moore's movie equipment was probably made in China. How doth it feel to be a mindless sheep?

For those nervous about China having a stealth fighter... Don't forget that every time the military develops a new technology it then sets about developing a counter technology. You can pretty much assume the military already has a new generation of radar units that can see stealth aircraft. Of course, they do not want to tell the world that they have it.

@Willie: The chinese stole the plans from Lockheed. None of these countries ever develop their own stuff they just reverse engineer everything. India reverse engineers pharmaceuticals so they don't have to pay R+D costs like American companies then they sell them for a third of the cost to Canada.

Are you trying to say the our own F.B.I. is incompetent,Dim Mak? They probably tried it but I find it dubious that they succeeded. That was just more right-wing propaganda that these right-wing nutjobs want us to believe. On the other hand, back in 1976,a Soviet pilot who defected did bring his MIG29 with him to Tokio so we got a first hand look at Russian aircraft technology. So one does wonder who learned what from who.

So chinese have their own Stealth.
Do we move to put sanctions on them ? Or chose to bomb their factories by passing UN , self defence you know. We have declared China as a military threat.
Not much else we can do to keep other countries from developing high-tech weapons of their own.

Dead wrong,T.Brown. The Bible was talking about us in the Book of Revelations and our ungodly weapons. St.John must have been quite horrified when he saw those awsome weapons like our ungodly drones and Apache helicoptors, for example. Now look at what's going today in the Middle East!!!

We have turned people in the whole of Middle East hostile to us by our lopsided & failed policies and China may well take advantage of the situation.
They were the beneficiaries of the Iraq disaster of our own making and are consolidating their position in the oil rich regions of the world.
If we don't learn from our mistakes now, the shifting balance of power would see us loose our clout and influence to Powers like China & Russia and would be powers like Turkey & Iran.

China makes nuclear powerplants that make ours look like the ace of diamonds rattleing on a bicycle spoke. How long you reckon before they make our 'defense technology' look like pawn to castle four? I give it 5 years at best.

...and we have troops protecting China's oil supply in the Caspian Basin, and troops in Afghanistan protecting the pipelines that deliver it. Get a clue. ALL of the world's powerful governments are on the 'same page'. They keep us divided with tactics like nationalism and racism. If not for our political..... (and most religious).....leaders, the fans that blow nationalism and racism in our face would have died out long ago. (gee, where did i get that from?)

NO? Take a look @ the "United Nations" (as they call it) What is right in front of the UN building? An statue with an inscription take from God's word the bible: "Beat your swords into plowhears". ( a prophecy recorded to assure us that one day we "will learn war no more".) Yet we, though one of the selecy"voting nations" have how many war colleges v. how many peace colleges? Get a clue. Even when the UN declares that we have at last attained "True Peace and 4ecurity"...it's only a ruse. For as 80 % of US know, there can be no "peace" until there is peace between man and God.
