Gotta Watch: Donald Trump

As MSNBC has said, Donald Trump is to politics what Charlie Sheen is to entertainment. You want to watch him just to see what he says next. He keeps questioning President Obama's birthplace, but he gets annoyed when anyone presses him on his "birther" theory. Trump has been a media magnet for years, and now he's dangling the prospect of a potential presidential run. In today's Gotta Watch, we take a look at some of Trump's greatest hits.

'Birther' controversy - Trump says his strengths as a potential candidate like in his stance on "jobs, the economy, and protecting our nation from OPEC, China and all these other countries that are ripping us off." And yet, he complains that, every time he's on TV, he's asked about the theory that President Obama wasn't born in the U.S. Check out this feisty exchange between Trump and CNN's Ali Velshi and Kyran Chetry.

[cnn-video url="http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2011/04/21/am.trump.birther.cnn"%5D

What's in a Trump name? - From "stupid" to "blatherside," so many in the media have their own way to describe Donald Trump. CNN's Jeanne Moos takes a look.

[cnn-video url="http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/offbeat/2011/04/20/moos.trumpathon.cnn"%5D

Donald Trump said what?? - Sometimes it seems as though Trump says anything that comes to his mind. And it's not always nice. As he eyes a possible presidential run, CNN.com dug up some of the more zany things the mogul has said over the years.

To Trump and the birthers, a few things. One, get over it... he's President. People tried to do this with Bush, too, that he didn't actually win. You guys are jealous about that and just need your own thing. It doesn't work. There was more evidence that Gore won (especially since he did easily win the popular vote) than Obama wasn't born in the US.

But this brings up a more important point... who cares if you're born in the US anyways? All USA citizens are technically immigrants. The only reason that law was even created in the first place was to keep the British from coming over and trying to take back the country by running in our elections. Now, it's almost an offensive law. Who cares? In fact, if/when someone born outside the US becomes a viable candidate, the law will probably even change... there were even murmurs in REPUBLICAN circles that they might have changed it for Ahnuld when he seemed to be a viable candidate.

And to people saying, well, "then Saddam could run for president!" A few things. 1) Would America ever vote for Saddam? No. and 2) You could make the law so you either have to be 35 years of age and born in the US, as it is now, or have been living in the US for 35 years or have been a US citizen for 35 years. Not that difficult.

And believe me, when a viable foreign candidate rises, like Arnold without the fall from grace, you bet people on whichever the side of the isle that candidate falls will look at altering that law. And I say more power to 'em. The USA IS immigrants. That's what we are, that's what makes us special. And if you become a US citizen, then you have had to take the tests (or it happened when you were a baby, so does it even matter?) And if you can pass those tests, then that means you at least have a basic understanding of the world and the countries in it, something many candidates lack (i.e. Russia is in my backyard, Iraq and Iran are the same thing, etc. etc.)

Oh and Trump, no way in h-ll you will win. At best this will give you lots of attention, which you clearly desire. In fact, it's looking pretty hard for any Republican to win, both because of an internal split within the party, and then also for the same reason Bush was able to win again in 2004... a terrible selection of candidates. They're either dull, corrupt or extremist in their viewpoints. Mitt Romney so far actually seems to be the best candidate they have, but he's flip flopped so much in his speeches it'll be easy to attack. But so far Romney's the only NON embarrassing Republican front runner. Trump is the most embarrassing, he even makes Palin (a woman who quit a government position to become a reality TV star) look legit.

@Winston Ever hear of The Manchurian Candidate? Great movie, you should watch it some time.

Further, if all he wanted was attention, he has lots of way to do that. Playing it up like he's thinking of running, only to drop out or not run in the first place, all for the purpose of gaining some additional attention (which he really doesn't need), would, in the end, come back to bite him hard... and he's smart enough to know that.

He's going to run. He's going to be front-and-center in the debates, and if he wins the Repubican Primary, he's going to give Obama fits. Note: I did not say I would vote for him, I'm not sure I could vote for him, mainly because of his "We'll just take the oil ourselves" stance.... I'm just telling it the way it really is.

Given my druthers, if he won, I'd rather he let the Iranians take over the oil fields in Iraq as he believes they will once we're totally outt of Iraq, and then we start drilling and using our own damn oil, and stop financing terrorists in the Middle East by buying their oil.

A switch to Natural Gas (a resource that is easy to extract, burns far more cleanly than gas or diesel, and of which we have the largest reserves in the world) for all (or the vast majority of) government vehicles would be a step in the right direction too.

HEY GUYS! While CNN and you are all bickering over the facts about Obama, let's look at the Internet archives from 2004! UH OH? What's this? An article from AP that says Obama is KENYAN BORN?! OH NO.

    http://classic-web.archive.org/web/20040627142700/eastandard.net/headlines/news26060403.htm

    READ AND WEEP.

To anyone else, use the INternet (wikipedia, internet-wayback-machine, archives, deep web, etc) to find the answers for yourself.

If a website says it, it must be true!

Read my post... the whole "where was he born thing" is just a way to call him that n-gger president without using the n word. Truth is, he's PRESIDENT, and the whole "born in the country law" is ridiculous anyways. We're all immigrants, unless we plan to have Native American presidents only, well, who cares? How would where you were born, as in being a baby and not even conscious of where you are, have any affect on the kind of President you would be?

"I agree 100%. What has Obama done?"

So is the problem that Obama is ineffective, or that he's done too much and is turning us into socialists? Because you can't have it both ways. You can't BOTH be leading the country down the drain while ALSO being ineffective. Either you're effective or you're not, and if you're effective, then you disagree with the effect said effectiveness is having.

Idiots, the lot of ye right wingers are!

"e can't be bought by special interest groups who are killing this nation like US based industry located off shore exempt from US taxes or news broadcasters who are owned by these groups and promote agenda for profits."

Yeah because Bush wasn't rich. Obama isn't rich. Clinton wasn't rich. Pretty much to run for President in the late 20th and 21st centuries, you NEED to be very rich. So this idea that you can't be "bought" is just ridiculous. Often it's not about being bought, but about putting your friends into positions of power and putting those who you have some degree of control over into power.

We've already had a Donald Trump type character in the White House. His name was Warren G Harding.

"Regardless, he would be a better president than Obama."

You'd say that till the day he was elected. Every current President is always the "worst ever." Bush was the worst ever. Clinton was the worst ever. Rinse and repeat.

This is why politicians are so corrupt, because the average American is an idiot that is easily distracted and has no real interest in the truth if it isn't simple and easily digestible. America, you get what you deserve. The corruption of American politics would be halved if the American people just took more responsibility and held THEMSELVES to a higher standard.

Let's see.....if CNN wasn't an extreme left wing corp. then this would never have been written the way it was. If Trump had been black, a muslim or a left wing liberal this article wouldn't have been written at all.

The fact that the left keeps bashing him is proof that they're scared! These idiot journalists are the ones who won't let the birther talk subside. Wait until he has something to present for cryin out loud. The whole time he was saying he wanted to talk about something else but the stupid interviwers wouldn't shut up about it. As Trump said, Obama probably was born in the U.S., but there's more to the story than that.

What I don't like about all this back and forth is the acceptance of each other and each other's opinions. Calling someone stupid becasue they do not mirror someone else's idea is unamerican. What happeneded to tolerance touted by the liberals? They want to be tolerated but do not tolerate others. That's not cool.

If the birthers were right , very early into the election, Obama would have been shot by the CIA, FBI, Pentagon or a combination of all three. These agencies would have not sit there and allowed it to happen.

    TRUMPAHOLIC?
I use that NAME because he is DRUNK with his own importance.
The American people do not need a wealthy male version of Sarah Palin; Big Mouth, Big Ego & No Substance!
With no Wall Street Bankers in jail, BIG OIL screwing the country & GREED paying CEO's big bucks again,
I would hazard a guess that even the average American isn't so stupid as to want to elect the exact type of person who represents all of the above.
A GREEDY, MONEY HUNGRY, PROFIT TAKING egotistical Con Artist who believes that wealth automatically
qualifies you as an expert in; Foreign Affairs, Energy Policies, Nuclear Arms, Healthcare, Education, etc., etc., etc.,
I do not know which is more pathetic .....
A Republican NAZI Party without any clear cut leadership 18 months before an election ..... or .....
A Republican NAZI Party with a group of leading candidates who are so different ..... or .....
Republican NAZI Party front runners who up to now can only agree on '1' thing – "We are right & the Democrats are wrong."
This isn't politics as usual, this is politics in a Nut House on a Crazy Farm in the Twilight Zone.

By not caving in to demands of the crazy Birthers and refusing to release his birth certificate, President Obama has thrown the Republican Party an explosive chew toy. It appears that Donald Trump is part of a shrinking number of politicians who are stupid enough to continue chewing on it.
