Lindsay Lohan jailed for violating probation

[7:30 p.m. ET, 4:30 p.m. PT] Lindsay Lohan was ordered Friday to serve 120 days in jail for violating her probation by getting arrested on allegations of stealing a necklace from a store.

Lohan was immediately taken into custody.

Her lawyer immediately filed a notice of appeal, which allowed her to post bond since the case involves a misdemeanor violation.

The judge set her bond at $75,000, which she was expected to post Friday evening.

The same judge earlier reduced her felony theft charge to a misdemeanor.

[5:30 p.m. ET, 2:30 p.m. PT] The judge has ruled that the necklace theft case against Lindsay Lohan will go forward to trial, but with the felony charge reduced to a misdemeanor.

"I'm going to give her an opportunity," Judge Stephanie Sautner said.

What don't you people understand lohan has money her farther has money she is above the law No one from low class would get this treatment they would of been in jail long time ago This judge sautner says he will give her an opportunity how many opportunity does she get the judge should just stop all this show and drop all charges now that is what he will do at end stop making tax money pay for this horse and pony show

Not really. This is pretty standard. The only difference is that if she has money to post bond then she can get out. An indigent person would likely have to stay just because they can't post bond not because they are getting worse treatment. For the average joe the bond would probably be much less and they would likely have the money to get out. I'm actually glad she is getting such equal treatment.

Tim....the focus here is not that Lindsay was able to post bond but that the judge reduced here crime from felony larceny to misdemeanor theft. In my state, steal anything valued above $500 is labeled felony larceny. Lindsay stole a $2500 necklace which certainly is not a misdemeanor.

If stars like Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan had to work at pantries and shelters (julea 8:27 AM) there would be no food in free pantries.
Stars, however they behave, don't just live well themselves: their fame creates jobs for many other humans, and those jobs are not "created" by taxing "the rich."
Society could take away all money earned by the productive and successful, but all the money would soon be depleted.
Then those who write sentences like "her and Sheen should" or "her and Charlie Sheen should" would go to a pantry and Sheen and Lohan might be working there, but there wouldn't be any free food to
hand out to those who can't get no job cause then didn never learn no english but they still be smart just can't get no job cause government aint create no job for them.

This girl really needs God. She is so messed up. Such a beautiful example of a culture that is demon possessed. They handlers want to use her beauty and her body for their profits. And she, wanting all the glamour and the life style they offer her, is willing to destroy herself and think it is all fun and games. I have great pity for this girl. She needs time out. She needs to be back in the play pen. She needs a real mother and father. She needs parenting and tough love. She needs God. If none of this happens look someday unexpectedly to read of her untimely death. She is on her way to the undertaker. Only she can stop this journey of hell. You can only laugh and act out so long missie. Get control of yourself and stop all this stupidity. You may get lauighs but these people even laugh at blind people and crippled children. I pray for you now: God please help this girl, Amen.

Just thinking...guys seldom "slap" other guys. I always punch.
Maybe he meant "slap" me with a lawsuit. I've heard that expression.

How can Lindsay Lohan be guilty, of a probation violation when she has not even been proven guilty, of the theft of the necklace?

There is a lower threshold for probation revocation. Typically to get your probation revoked the prosecution just has to prove a probation violation by a preponderance of the evidence (more likely than not). Since one of her (standard) probation guidelines is "You cannot get arrested" then they definitely proved the violation because she was in fact arrested. Now, when she goes to court for the actual theft then they will have to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. Long explanation short, she was on probation at the time and when you agree to probation, you agree to a shorter leash.
