Gotta Watch: Born in the USA

After years of speculation and several major media outlets debunking claims, President Obama moved to put rumors about his birth certificate to bed by releasing the long-form document. While this may quiet some of the noise from some so-called "birther" conspiracy theorists, it may not be enough for others. In today's gotta watch we take a look at some of the most vocal "birthers" and their years-long quest to see Obama's birth certificate. And if you're still not sure what all the stink is all about, we've got a cheat sheet here.

The born conspiracy? – "Birther" movement leader Orly Taitz has been very vocal about her doubts concerning the president's birth place. She even took the issue to a California court. She said her goal was to find out if Obama was U.S. citizen and to hold a special presidential election if he wasn't.

"Birther" solider refuses deployment – One soldier adamantly refused his deployment orders, saying Barack Obama wasn't born in America and therefore ineligible to be president and give military orders. The soldier claimed there was "significant evidence" Obama wasn't born in Hawaii.

"Birther" outburst – Here, a "birther" only dubbed as "The Interrupter" cries out during the congressional reading of the constitution, earning her a place on the Ridiculist.

What's the next issue for "birthers"? – You guessed it, President Obama's grades. Anderson Cooper digs in with info about the president's education, but we're guessing the next documents to be unearthed will be his report cards.

I am quite perplexed as to why the president's birth certificate was not readily available to begin with. For most any job we apply for (including working at a Walmart) we need to show proof of citizenship, birth certificates, and sometimes go through a full background check, especially in executive positions. So, tell me why would the production of a birth certificate take up any of the president's time at all. Additionally, the president works for the American people and therefore they have a right to full disclosure. If this was such an ordeal for the president, then how is he prepared to perform the job of President of the United States?

It's only because of your racist views why people like you are asking for birth certificate, was bush asked for one. If Obama was white pure white, would youand birthers ask for a birth proof? Time to stop being racist, cant stop the change.

Howard was somehow able to drool from his keyboard a load of crap about not asking for Bush's birth certificate. Ummmm, brain trust – Bush NEVER lived in Kenya or Indonesia, and he never went to a muslim madrassa... these are things your messiah has done, so geeeeeee, I wonder why some folks would question where he was born...

The Treasury Department confirms everything about a potential president's qualifications, including citizenship. Since they can probably do a better job of this than a bunch of crazy right wing rednecks, I am quite perplexed that anyone actually takes the idea that he wasn't a US citizen seriously. Anyone who questioned Obama's legitimacy obviously is either of sub-par intelligence or has mental balance issues.

Not everyone knows that. Further more why didn't he produce it 2 years ago when all this started ? He let it fester, just like the moron he is. Now that this is finally resolved, we can move on to the countless other disasters he has caused, like the debt, obamacare, the not war in Libya, and a foreign policy that is destroying us around the world, while he is destroying us domestically. It's long past time that you stop being so naive and pay attention to what the country really needs. And, it ain't the liberals or Obama....

What you're requesting is preposterous. Are you required to show your birth certificate to all your co-workers even if you work at a defense contract agency? NO. Are you required to show your birth certificate to everyone if you are part of a police force, which is employed by the government? NO. This is just ridiculous.

He produced his birth certificate in 2008 (the certificate of live birth). I am from Hawaii and when I requested my own birth certificate I received the same form that the president received. Also, for christ's sake, "natural born citizen" does not necessarily mean "person born in the US." One can be born outside the US and still be a natural born citizen. Since Obama's mother was without a doubt an American citizen, he would have automatically been an American at birth, even if he was born on Mars.

I challenge you to fact-check Glenn and his co-conspirators. He tells a lot of porkies. Look up Glenn Beck and Brazil oil. I know, I know... he already has brainwashed his followers with his script that they are "out to get him". Here's a hint: someone who claims others are "out to get get him" might not be quite right.

Thank you! You're the only other person I've seen mention that! I've been saying it in other forums myself. I was in the US Air Force. My son was born in a Dutch hospital. Both his mother and I were born in the US and are therefore natural born citizens "Jus soli" (by right of soil) And so too is my son natural born: "Jus sanguinis" (by right of blood). I'm not a fan of Mr. Obama, but he IS the legally elected President!

President Obama provided the only official legal certification of birth that the state of Hawaii provides to all of its citizens. To doubt the president's official birth certificate is to doubt the birth certificates of all Hawaiians and to question the honesty, legitimacy and legality of the Hawaiian system. Besides, if Obama was not a citizen, don't think for one minute that Hillary Clinton wouldn't have proven that during the democratic primaries in 2008.

There are people that are assigned specifically to check backgrounds for all political candidates that did this already, just having to prove it to the people that can't get it through their heads a black man is our president & yes hes even smarter than you. He put out the certificate of live birth, which any employer would accept as proof of birth here. Hawaii and several other states don't make copies of actual birth certificates available; the live birth certificate is given out in place.

Since this entire issue is utterly absurd, I'm guessing Obama didn't put the real one on display earlier because he didn't want to validate these idiotic birthers to begin with, as they are a small group. And if you honestly think anyone can run for president without the CIA, FBI, and NSA all running extreme background checks on them, you're nuts.

I've never been asked for a birth certificate to apply for a job. I've been asked for social security card, proof of citizenship (I use my passport personally) and driver's license. Never a birth certificate. I should know because mine is in Russian, and I would have to get it translated and the translation notarized, likely by a notary fluent in both Russian and English for it to be used, and I have NEVER done this in my life.

The delusional complaints of the "birthers" are hillarious, they are essentially moaning about the state of Hawaii putting slightly different 3-4 words at the top of their birth certificates. But I hope they continue to press on even after recent announcements! They are quite humorous and give me something to do in breaks from work. This is good stuff!

Vera: Birthers are racists in disguise, very simple. See, we all know that the vetting process one would have to go through before they are given the codes to our WMDS, the economy and being head of the military is so thorough that it would leave no stone unturned. But because birthers are racists they tried to come up with some conspiracy to hide their hate as them being patriotic by "making sure" Obama was born here. Its a distorted view they have had all their lives of how superior they are to most and this is why the "birther" movement came about. They are no different than the KKK or other racist movements that prevail. And the reason ot prevails in our society is because many people need to keep them in the open and keep an eye on them. last time a group like birthers were brushed off and ignored, they reinvented themselves and cloaked themselves as republicans. Now look what we have, the tea party bithers Gopers in power. I know its scary and you don't have to thank me for exposing them to you. Thats why the president ignored the birther issue for so long, he knows its hate based and today he finally exposed them for what they truly are.

Only computer-tracked and generated evidence is accepted due to a post-9/11 strengthening of the law. The certificate President Obama released years ago IS THE OFFICIAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE IN THE STATE OF HAWAII AND WHAT YOU NEED FOR ALL LEGAL PURPOSES.
It is difficult to get the long form certificate under Hawaii state law because it is NOT REQUIRED for anything and the form President Obama released IS NOW THE LEGAL ONE.
Why didn't you all you RACISTS not ask for Senator McCain's birth certificate??? He WAS NOT BORN IN THE U.S. BUT IN THE PANAMA CANAL ZONE. Know why Arizona Governor Brewer VETOED their just passed BIRTHER LAW??? Because under this new law MCCAIN WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CONTINUE SERVING AS SENATOR BECAUSE HE CANNOT PRODUCE THE REQUIRED BIRTH CERTIFICATE IN THEIR RACIST LAW.

Vera – I'm sure you're quite perplexed, if you had to show your birth certificate for a job. As a member of management, the only thing we require is a picture ID and/or Social Security card. Now, I grant you, that a birth certificate is required (usually) to get either of those – but we dont require one when you apply for a job.

President Obama provided what everyone one of us, or most of us, has had to supply at least once in their lifetime and that is the short version of the certification of live birth. I'm sure he had a driver's license and I'm sure that since he's traveled out of the country, he had a passport – ablue or maroon one. (So I dont perplex you again, Vera, blue covered passports are for natural born US citizens, maroon is for people traveling on US business but who are not diplomats).

I've read so many times during this controversy that he should just release his birth certificate because we all had to. That's just it... he DID, twice. It just wasnt the LONG form because every day citizens dont have to present the long form either.

It's over. Done. Get over it.

So where's Trump's Tax Returns? He promised he would release them if Obama released his long-form birth certificate.

As for the rest of the "Birthers", most of them are certifiably insane, so reality such as this won't even reach into their delusions.

And don't forget, none of these people had any problem at all with John McCain being BORN IN PANAMA!

The stupidity of some citizens of a nation so great always amazes me. I mean are we that daft. The rest of the industrial world is laughing hard at us. I am dumbfounded and amazed at such ridiculous notions and at what people will say to bring someone down. Racism I feel is the only explanation because this has never happened before to other presidents. There were no problems when Arnold became the “Gorvenator” (I know that was just on a state level (but still). McCain was born in Panama and I predict this would not have happened if he was president. Please let us prove to the world that we are great, smart, and intellectually advanced as we claim and that immigrants are not the only smart and hardworking people behind the scenes, too busy making this country great to waste time making stupid accusations…Shame!!!

You may not be, but by being a proponent of the 'birther' issue you are helping to promote a racist agenda in America. You should be able to see this fairly easily.

  4. FYI

Even if he was born on the moon he would still be a US citizen because his mother was one. Does the "birthers" complaints also mean that the children of our military personnel born in other countries are not American citizens? My bottom line is would it even be an issue if he wasn't a black man? Whether people want to admit it or not, there are a lot of people who have a serious problem being the leader of the United States. I'm not playing the "race card" I'm stating a fact. Search your hearts and see what you come up with.

Actually, Yes, the issue would have existed no matter his race. JFK was also placed under similar scrutiny when he was running for the office of President. The fact is, some people dislike someone so imensely that they will try to find any reason to disqualify them. I am sure some radical racist people took part in the "birther" movement, but if all of them were doing it for race, please explain JFK.
All candidates for political office face scrutiny, valid or not, that most people do not face. It is a game that political parties have played forever. Ifit wasn't the "birther" movement, it would have been something else.

For the insane amount of time, money and energy this witless lot has forced on our nation over the past 3 years, I propose the following punitive actions. Feel free to vote on these:

      1. Fire them from their janitorial duties.

      2. Cut off their foodstamps and welfare checks.

      3. Move their Aryan Nation tattoos to their foreheads.

      4. No more going shirtless when they're busted on "Cops".

      5. Require them to sew up the eyeholes in their bedsheets.

      6. Flush their crystal meth down the toilet.

      7. Require them to bathe for a second time this year.

      8. Sic those Nigerian heir scammers on them.

      9. Award them an all-expenses paid vacation to Camp Gitmo.

      10. Force them to take their Alzheimers' medication. Again.

Therefore, the US will never be a "3rd world country." The US and the Allies are considered 1st world, the Axis 2nd World, and everyone else 3rd world.
