Overheard on CNN.com: Readers respond to birth certificate

Comment of the morning: "(President Barack) Obama just pulled out his Trump card." - Cavemullah

Obama releases original long-form birth certificate

Doubters that President Barack Obama was born in the United States, led recently by possible Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, got their answer Wednesday when the White House released Obama's original birth certificate. "Birthers" have insisted that Obama was born overseas - possibly in his father's home country of Kenya - and therefore may be constitutionally ineligible to serve as president. Obama said Wednesday that he released his original birth certificate because the country does not "have time for this kind of silliness."

Many CNN.com readers expressed frustration that the president was put in the position of having to show his birth certificate at all.

CrunkSwaggaG said, "I think Donald Trump and about half of the Republican Party owe President Obama a sincere apology." flatbushfred said, "Obama shouldn't have had to do this. It's blatant racism." LPLove said, "No president in history has ever been treated this way. The birthers are nothing more than racists wrapping themselves in the flag. Disgusting." harryball said, "I feel bad for this guy. When was the last time a president was forced to show his birth certificate two years into his presidency? Oh that's right, never. Even as president, black people are still being treated as second-class citizens."

About Trump’s role in the controversy, CNN.com readers had plenty to say:

icecold12 said, "Now Trump has to live up to his end of the deal and deliver his income tax information and net worth. Obama called his bluff and I bet he folds." BobSacamano said, "I'd like to know how much debt Trump has discharged throughout his life by claiming bankruptcy. How many millions has he stiffed his investors and creditors for?"

USAlegend said, OBAMA: "On Your Face Sucker, Here is my Birth Certificate.’ TRUMP: "Well......huh.....hmmmm....But this doesn't prove that you are not a Muslim."

And now that the original certificate has been released, many CNN.com readers said it still won’t be enough for birthers.

W2ATL said, "This really won't matter. These clowns will have some new madness to cry about in three hours." livingston1 responded, “Really, do you think it will take that long? That kind of hate blinds them to any sense of reason.” Nagaina said, “Countdown to someone claiming the long form birth certificate is an 'obvious forgery'...3...2...1.” BubbaSponge said, “Now hopefully the birthers will give it a rest once and for all!!” TikiGawd said, “Nah, they'll start a movement saying Hawaii isn't really part of the United States because it's 'overseas.' " iroshi said, “It's a shame the ‘birthers’ can't focus on an issue that is actually important. For instance, the national debt, unemployment, taxes, etc. What an incredible waste of time and money this has been.”

We love you Obama. Away with bad mouthy people like donald trump with bankruptcy records and hoping us to vote for him to take care of us? Doesnt donald know pride comes before a fall? We will be laughing at him as soon as it happens. I'll be at the front for that! Stop the sillyness mr.trump. China Critic Trump Has His ‘Donald J. Trump Signature Collection’ Suits Made…In China
    by Mark Joyella | 1:14 pm, April 27th, 2011

Oh, Department of Delicious Irony. The self-professed possible potential presidential candidate Donald Trump, who’s been a harsh critic of buying products from China, has his “Donald J. Trump Signature Collection” suits and ties manufactured–yep–in China. As Salon’s Justin Elliott discovered, the clothing line that “promises to provide ‘the pinnacle of style and sophistication’ and ‘the necessities to be boardroom ready all of the time’” comes with a “Made in China” tag.

Donald Trump has emerged in recent years as the nation’s foremost China basher, going after the Asian superpower for undervaluing its currency and for taking American manufacturing and jobs. So it’s at least ironic — and at most an example of gross hypocrisy — that Trump’s own line of men’s wear, the Donald J. Trump Signature Collection, is manufactured in China.
Elliott notes that Trump–who truly insists he may in fact perhaps be running for president–”has long complained about Chinese currency ‘manipulation’ and has called for a large tariff on imports from China” and has urged Americans to buy fewer products made in China. Maybe that’s why other parts of the Donald J. Trump Signature Collection are made in Mexico and Bangladesh?
I goggled to find out what designer suits The Don wears because after his disgusting witch hunt over President Obama's birth certificate and his vile attack on the President, I can only picture Donald Trump in very expensive suits wearing soiled underwear, but lo and behold I found this article on Donald Trump's clothing line - manufactured where? - in the US, NO in China! You should let your viewers know this bit of information on the Don to show that you can't judge a book by it's cover, only by it's content!

Reminds me of Sam Walton and his "Buy American" campaign. He and a partner set up an import/export business to be the intermediary between Walmart and "Communist" China so as to hide the fact that Walmart was not, indeed, "buying American" itself.

If you guys did some real investigating sooner the whole birther thing wouldn't have flown. Doesn't matter what your own personal opinions are, the public wants to get to the truth and every question should be answered whether you think it silly or not. Investigative journalism is supposed to be truth-driven, fact-based and impartial. Instead you give us partisan lies and personal commentary. You're mainstream media is a joke and disgraceful.

What is going on with this news station? Not only is this idiot Trump making a mockery of things, but CNN is continuing to broadcast this junk! Forget the fact there are massive natural disasters going on, a national fiscal disaster, still working on the BP spill, and many other national and international crises....we still get to hear Trump..I guess he is getting the TV facetime he is wanting.

Shame on CNN for continuing to broadcast this crap.....Let The National Enquirer pick it up.

The President of the United States has already qualified for the position. It was not a close race, nor a disputed one. All “Presidents” and their families have to go through a lot of criticism and consider sources and ranges of intellect.

Unfortunately for some reason, the “beautiful rich ranges of chocolate skin colors” we love, make a large population of people subconsciously react and continue to display the worst side of their character instead of the best. Professional help will always be available for adults and children who need help in dealing with diversity.

again, I'd like to know why nearly all pro-BHO bloggers routinely resort to name-calling, insults and oh, yeah charges of RACIST for every blog that doesn't agree with their views. THat word RACIST worked well for many decades after the 60s race riots, effectively stifling any-all opposition to a specific group's agenda. However, it's old and stale, and unwarranted now.

I notice very few conservatives-independents-tea baggers et al, stoop to that gutter-trash-talk level. A difference in ntegrity?, education? familiarity with the English language and all it's nuances?

frankly, the worst examples of pure racist hatred and riot-inciting rhetoric has emitted from the mouths of J Jackson and A Sharpton. If ANY non-black had said even one of the same hateful things those 2 routinely spew, that person would have been arrested, tried, convicted and vilified B4 the end of the week. And yet the media and law enforcement just looks the other way when either of these two men step before a microphone. WHY IS THAT??
