Widow 'overwhelmed' by news that husband delivered baby Obama

The widow of the doctor whose signature is on President Obama's birth certificate was honored to learn of her husband's role in bringing the future president into the world and hoped the document would end debate over his citizenship.

"It is a great thrill and a great honor and I had no idea," Ivalee Sinclair, an Obama supporter, said Wednesday in a phone interview from her home in Honolulu, Hawaii.

"I was just overwhelmed with the news."

David Sinclair's name appears as the attending physician on the live birth certificate that the White House released Wednesday in response to doubts over his citizenship. The "birther debate" has waxed and waned since Obama's presidential campaign, returning with renewed vigor last week due in large part to the efforts of billionaire entrepreneur Donald Trump.

According to the document, Obama was born on August 4, 1961, in the Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu, where David Sinclair spent most of his career delivering around 10,000 babies, his wife said.

Sinclair served in World War II as a fighter pilot before going to medical school and embarking on a decades-long career as a respected physician.

"I just know he loved what he was doing and he had a wonderful rapport with his patients," Ivalee Sinclair said. "When he passed away, many called to share funny stories that he'd shared with them, to tell me they'd named children after him or other such honors, so I know he was dearly loved by his patients."

Ivalee Sinclair said she hoped the birth certificate would put the matter to rest and echoed President Obama's remarks that the country had "better stuff to do."

"I think President Obama was correct when he said it was a distraction that takes away from the real issues and we have huge, huge real issues that our country is facing," she said. "We need people to work together not at one another’s throats."

She said she didn't think her husband knew of his connection to the president because he died in 2003, before Obama announced his candidacy. But if he did, he never mentioned it.

"Physicians honor the confidentiality of their patients so he never said anything to me about this, and at that time, we had no way of knowing that President Obama was going to be president," she said.

John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone. At the time of his birth, the Canal Zone was not a territory or a possession of the United States. Is he an American citizen? Why haven't the birthers (White Conservatives and Tea Party) requested that McCain show his birth certificate since he was born in a foreign country, Panama. I was born on the Canal Zone but I am a citizen of Panama not of the United States. If he had won the Presidential Election would he have been eligible to serve as President of the United States? Just curious. Is Hawaii a foreign country?

He's not the only president to have been questioned and doubted. Former president Chester A Aurthur's birthplace and legitimacy to be president ( 1881 to 1885 ) was challenged by his opposition. There were legitimate reasons to question Obama's birthplace. His father was not a US Citizen and his mother spent most of her life outside of the US. Hawaii became a state in 1959 and Obama was born in 1961. I don't doubt Obama's birthplace, but it's understandable is a citizen wanted to see his long form birth certificate. I can bet that similar concerns were raised about Chester A Aurthur.

@Frank. Fine. Not the only one to be questioned. But Augustus raised a good point, Hawaii is NOT a foreign country, Panama is and John McCain was born there, not the United States.

You can sign up for citizenship after immigrating here, but I'm not sure if that still makes it OK to be president later. Arnold Schwarzennegger can't run to be president for example, but I'm not sure if he is still Austrian or if he applied for US Citizenship a long time ago. Wouldn't the same apply for Donald Trump if he was born in Canada? I am also a bit curious if John McCain, being born in Panama was always "American". I know here in Germany, if your parents (even just one) are military and you are born here, you are American, even though you were born in Germany. I know a couple of people at home like that. Was John McCain's situation? If so its totally correct that he is American and not a citizen of Panama.

He was born on a military installation in Panama. Thus, he is an American citezen. Regardless of where in the world our military men and women are, if they have a child on a military base it is considered an American born. This happened with John Mccain in Panama, and with my sister in Germany. Clearly stated in law.

Actually number I have a couple of opinions on the birther issue:
1.) Someone needs to ask Donald Trump if his hair has a birth certificate, or did it come from another country, or world!!!
2.) Why doesn't the Donald release his income tax information, like he said he would, or does he have something to hide as well?
3.) Why is CNN even talking about it anymore, all CNN is doing is add fuel to a fire that should have died a while ago.
4.) Can you all just talk about the news that really matters, or is this that important? I am actually thinking about not even watching CNN anymore because you won't let a dead dog lie like you should?

First of all, why the secret 2nd swearing in? Second of all, who the hell is this god-damn liar anyways? I voted for him, not the Manchurian Candidate from the Hanoi Hilton, ADMIRAL John McCain's son. I voted for this now obvious Wall St.Puppet because a) He promised to get us out of Iraq – lie b) Close Gitmo – lie and c) Repeal the Patriot Act – lie. He should be impeached for all kinds of fraud. He's part of the New World Order, plain and simple. MLK would be ashamed!!!

You're about as smart as a bag of hammers aren't you? It's a birth certificate and its been shown and accepted. Do you seriously think if he was not American that he would have been elected in the first place. Don't think for one second that Sarah Palin would have missed that opportunity. Even John McCain said Obama was American. Hawaii is a state, you know, no matter how much native Hawaiians wish they were NOT. The authority figures accept this certificate as authentic. Why are you not upset that John McCain was born in Panama? Isn't that the same thing? He also wanted to be President.....Please go find something else to spin conspiracy theories about. Like how there are two Britney Spears, apparently. And how she's ruining your life by ripping off your songs and profitng off them....what? that's crazy? IMAGINE THAT.

Now don't be insulting. You brought up a good point about McCain being born in the panama canal. I wonder how it would work if HE got elected. It is common knowledge where he was born. He had never tried to hide it. I don't think he would have spent all that time and money campaigning if he hadn't checked out the legalities long ago. Therefore, I'm thinking the panama canal must fall under some sort of U.S. jurisdiction somehow, or at least it DID when McCain was born. I'll have to look that up. Yes, I think a non American would be elected if the right forces were behind it and wanted it bad enough. Money DOES talk and with Chicago politics and union bigwigs, ANYTHING is possible. Sarah Palin jumping on the controversy? She's not SMART ENOUGH, remember?

Of course, I have another theory on the Mccain/panama canal thing. He never intended to be president, and was only used as a fill in for the Republican ticket to ensure Obama got elected. He was paid big $$$ to be the Republican "fall guy".

See, don't call us Republicans stupid. It takes quite a bit of brain power to be so creative with these conspiracy theories. Oh, and it also takes alot of free time, which we ALL have, thanks to UNEMPLOYMENT!!!

Not only are republicans stupid, they are expert pathological liars. Bush knew there were no WMD's in Iraq. He wanted to avenge the attempt on his father's life and over 4,000 Americans have died because of his lies, which amounted to almost 1,000 lies. Remeber "He tried to kill my daddy"? One more thing, not all republicans are racist but all racists are republicans.

Actually Robert, you can't exactly blame Bush for lack of banking legislation, as we were dealing with a house AND senate controlled by Lefty's like Reid, Palosi, etc. who helped make these sorts of decisions as well. But I guess "Blame Bush" would be the classic out. Thanks for playing.

If McCain had been born in Mecca, he would still be eligible to be president. His parents are American.

McCain was born on a U.S. naval base in the Panama Canal Zone. Our military bases in other countries are considered U.S. soil. Just think of all of the babies born on our military bases in Germany. The thing is, is that if birthers were honest with themselves, they would be more disturbed with someone who was admittedly born in another country. That is, if they were truly concerned with the subject. But we all know that they just can't accept either a Democratic or a Black president. Take your pick. Their hatred is a fantastic motivator.

The real story is in "DELIVERED BABY OBAMA." Yes, this doctor delivered him from Kenya to Hawaii and then signed the certificate! The biggest fleecing of the American sheeple in history! He's also not dead, there are VERY STRONG rumors that he is hiding in Indonesia.

This was not intended to be a factual statement. – Senator Jon Kyl (R-Who Cares)
