Widow 'overwhelmed' by news that husband delivered baby Obama

The widow of the doctor whose signature is on President Obama's birth certificate was honored to learn of her husband's role in bringing the future president into the world and hoped the document would end debate over his citizenship.

"It is a great thrill and a great honor and I had no idea," Ivalee Sinclair, an Obama supporter, said Wednesday in a phone interview from her home in Honolulu, Hawaii.

"I was just overwhelmed with the news."

David Sinclair's name appears as the attending physician on the live birth certificate that the White House released Wednesday in response to doubts over his citizenship. The "birther debate" has waxed and waned since Obama's presidential campaign, returning with renewed vigor last week due in large part to the efforts of billionaire entrepreneur Donald Trump.

According to the document, Obama was born on August 4, 1961, in the Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu, where David Sinclair spent most of his career delivering around 10,000 babies, his wife said.

Sinclair served in World War II as a fighter pilot before going to medical school and embarking on a decades-long career as a respected physician.

"I just know he loved what he was doing and he had a wonderful rapport with his patients," Ivalee Sinclair said. "When he passed away, many called to share funny stories that he'd shared with them, to tell me they'd named children after him or other such honors, so I know he was dearly loved by his patients."

Ivalee Sinclair said she hoped the birth certificate would put the matter to rest and echoed President Obama's remarks that the country had "better stuff to do."

"I think President Obama was correct when he said it was a distraction that takes away from the real issues and we have huge, huge real issues that our country is facing," she said. "We need people to work together not at one another’s throats."

She said she didn't think her husband knew of his connection to the president because he died in 2003, before Obama announced his candidacy. But if he did, he never mentioned it.

"Physicians honor the confidentiality of their patients so he never said anything to me about this, and at that time, we had no way of knowing that President Obama was going to be president," she said.

Of course, Native Hawaiians have a name for Birthers too. They call them Stupid Haoles. What all of this REALLY is is a plot by the infamous Hawaiian head of Chinese Intelligence and Steve McGarrett nemesis, Wo Fat, to place the Manchurian Candidate into power.

Now ponder THIS fact. Khigh Deigh, the actor who PLAYED Wo Fat on Hawaii 5-0, ALSO played Dr. Yen Lo in the Original Manchurian Candidate film and was ALSO of Anglo-Egyptian-Sudanese descent. Coincidence? Hmm.

He also taught (Philosphy I think) at Arizona State University. I'm driving to class one day and look over at the next car, and there's Wo Fat. Scared me.

This all sounds too suspect and convenient to me. Why did it take TWO YEARS to produce a birth certificate? Something is strange. And I'm sorry – but it just makes me doubt it more. If they would have done this two years ago, then I wouldn't be so put off by it but now, I'm leaning toward the whole thing being a cover up and lie. So frustrating to think that the government does stuff that help us believe they're lying. They need to work harder to improve that.

This has been the greatest cast of race bating that I have seen in my entire 55 years. It is sad to think that a person of the African American or Black race (which ever you prefer)is still subject to such degrading treatments. Are we in 2011 still seeking to prove our worth? We are a part of the fiber of this great nation and it is sad we have to show our "paper" to prove it. President Obama was vetted before he ran for office okay! Stop this maddness and lets move on to greater and more important issues. Get professional help on your mental issues as soon as possible. Have a great day!

Seems to me that our dear President could have cleared up this matter about his birth a long time ago. If there were some questions about it, why didn't he do sooner.

If he died in 2003, of course he would never mention that he delivered Obama. Obama wasn't even in the Senate yet when this man died.

Do you really call this news?

No surprise that the doctor is dead...further proof Obama picked a dead guy to "sign" his birth certificate...

Personally I would like Mr Trump to have to pay for the trip the admiinstrative aid went on to Hawaii to go and get the original birth certificate. As a tax payer who believed that yes our President was born in America, I want a refund on the cost of that trip just because some jackwagon threw a fit and said he wasn't!

Shoulda know the doc that delivered him would be deceased so again no one present to confirm the US birth. Also, if you were the doc who delivered Obama, would you not tell your present-day-wife at some point? How odd that his widow knew nothing about it. And just for the record, for the right price, anyone can get a birth certificate – live birth or otherwise – in Time Square.

The man died before Obama even became a senator. Obama was pretty much an unknown back then. So there was really nothing to tell his wife. You racist people asked for his birth certificate and now you have it. Stop trying to come up with some theories that its fake. Grow up, it's 2011 stop being a racist pig.

What is this article really about? Obviously, the guy didn't know he delivered the future president because he died four years before he announced his bid to run for the seat. He might've known he delivered a senator of Illinois, but the guy probably didn't keep up on other state's senators. And he delivered 10,000 babies. I think this article is really trying to say, that the guy who delivered Obama is no longer alive. Whatever that means to us, I have no idea.

Of course, he wanted the relevance and impact. The doctor died in 2003. The article adds to the nonsense of distraction by implying the widow's surprise means something else. Ridiculous

Yeah, it's a real certificate. Nobody could ever duplicate that. Who cares? Obama was chosen by the media and elites in our society. End of story. To say that he is not a citizen, is like saying that one sock puppet in the puppet show is fake. We are not free.

Well, I'd still like to know what "dirt" Donald Trump supposedly had on him. Whether he did or was just bluffing, it was enough to scare Obama into finally acting on this 3yr old rumour. I doubt Trump had anything on him, but he managed to manipulate Obama into thinking he did, and it was enough to make Obama think he needed to do SOMETHING fast. It stands to reason that if there wasn't anything to it, then Obama wouldn't have wasted time on it and would had called Trump on it. Apparently, Obama THOUGHT Trump discovered something. I don't mean to sound like a hard core birther loon but can a birth certificate like his BE faked?? If so, would 3yrs be enough time in office to perfect the fake, or work out any bugs on the paper? Personally, I think he made yet another bad jugement call by paying ANY attention to this whatsoever. He does, after all, have more important things to deal with then this silliness. He said so himself. If it was worth ignoring for three years, I think it could have gone at least another three.

That being said, and I hate to admit this,(scary thought) but Trump is clearly more intelligent then Obama, the commander of our armed forces. Trump outwitted him for sure. Pardon the analagy, but how do you draw a snake out of the fields? You don't chase after the snake, you light the field on fire and drive the snake out. Shame on Trump for humiliating the Pres. like that. I'm sure the Pres. is smart enough to feel humiliated and understand exactly what had been done to him. Regardless of his politics, or beliefs of his birth, the office of the presidency has to be shown proper respect. That was not done by Trump, a clever, and shrewd (and CHEAP) opportunist.

    • Really??

Analagy? Your grammar skills further prove what an idiot you are. Donald Trump caused a big stir, and rejuvenated the "birther" movement. He didn't SCARE anyone into providing a birth certificate. Obama would have been better off not proving a thing, because in the end he is still black, and fools like yourself will still assume this means he must be from Kenya. Do all of us folks WITH A BRAIN a favor, and crawl under a rock.
